Now-a-days some people add thAyppAsam (vAthsalyam) as a tenth
rasam (chuvai - uNarchchi).

Knowing the TF world, there would be thousands of songs with kAdhal
chuvai. We can safely discard that one. I can't think of any songs
with the uNarchchi of veRuppu, sinam and veRi sung by spb.
Leaving it for experts like rAmki, cp, nUv, etc. to suggest songs.

I heard SPB say in a mEdai nigazhchi that he has actually taken a break four times in the song.. and has challenged people to find it. No recording gimmicks though.

The navarasam list I gave was incorrect/incomplete.

TO Ravi:
I attended SPB's concert in NJ and about the Keladi kaNamani song he acknowledged that he didn't sing the song without breaks and it was all technology.

Ennappa idhu : ovvoru idathil ovvuru kadhaiya ? Anyway IMO it was technology and if you listen carefully you can find out where the music was spliced together.

CP: I am not talking about the lyrics. (BTW I couldn't make out half the lyrics in star wars the first time around.) It is more the bhaavam SPB's voice carries. One example of this is a song from Rudra veena. This is a song which wasn't there in the Tamizh version. In this Chiranjeevi is very angry and is venting his frustration by walking alone and singing. The feelings that SPB brings out in that song.. oh. You do not have to understand the lyrics to know that he is alternatively angry, wistful, dismayed, disappointed etc.. I think that SPB got an award for that song also. enakku suththamA telungu theriyaathathunaala athu enna paattunnu solla mudiyala. Rudra Veena had more songs than 'Unnaal mudiyum thambi'. The movie was also considerably longer.

Kanchana: I agree that the definiton of navarasam is not at all intuitive. As far as I am concerned their origin is lost in the dim mist of prehistory. :-). Any tamizh scholars who can clarify?

Yes, I have heard the telugu version and it is very good compared to the tamil one. Yes, I did notice some difference in the songs but was not able to distinguish Mano's voice.

Sorry for being a 'kuttu' specialist rather than a 'listu' specialist.

I have listed many songs in other threads. But few of our lists are vague. SPB-IR is one. I was not interested as that was never ending. I had mentioned that in a reply to that thread. This list is another vague one. We have still not arrived at a consensus on what are 'navarasam's. There have been more than 15 rasams already.

Hope to contribute to every thread.

Just a question to all you folks? What is the main objective? Is it to find the nine navarasams or is it to find songs that are appropriate for each navarasam? If you need to know the nine navarasam go into any book that describes "Bharatha Natyam" (classical dance) in detail and it will be there with definitions.

I don't know if you wanted this information or not. Sorry if I butt in where I wasn't wanted.
