  That was a differnt film, KR will be doing a film under Mani production. Atleast that was the original news, this thread started with. Even if mani wants he wont get ARR for a film he just produces.

  Is it just me or did the BGM for Ullam kollai poghuthe remind you fo the BGM of Naam iruvar namakku iruvar? KR seems to be recycling a lot of tunes, not only his own, but those of other MD's also.

  after roja.. there was widespread media speculation that Thiruda tiruda wud have L.Subramaniam as MD ( bcoz he did for dasarathan)
  
  after thiruda thiruda they again said MR reverted to IR... again just a rumor
  
  after bombay.. it was a confirmed report that Deva wud do Iruvar...
  
  again it was supposed to be ranjith barot to do dilse ....
  
  deva again was reported to have been booked for alaipayuthey ( bcoz he did nerukku ner)
  
  now its KR for "kannathil muthamittal( Mani's allegedly next movie title- it may be true)
  
  i am sorry guys unless they have a fall out i dont think MR-ARR wud split. bcoz in my opinion it wud directly bring down ARR's market by 50 %

  ARR cant do that many movies, Nor Mani would be interested in second hand tunes. ARR has to apply genetic algorithms to his tunes and evolve it into decent songs. That takes a long time.

  I think ManiRatnam played a major role in the evolution of ARR from a jingle maker to a film MD. I am sure he provided valuable advise to ARR on how to 'position' yourself while composing for movies. Also, ManiRatnam, surely has some 'concrete' ideas about songs/music. This is the reason why he is able to get good albums out of Deva, KR and others. More MR works with other composers he will be creating more competition for ARR.
  
  ARR's approach to music composition is not 'spontaneity' but 'iterative'. By the time ARR decides on the arrangement it takes a long time, tune probably is made in a much shorter time. He also spends time 'conceptualising' the song. Overall it takes a lot of time !!

  Generally, Mani is not using ARR in his home production because ARR is costly and as Kiru said, Mani has the "ability" to extract good tunes from any TFM MD (probably he'll fail in case of SAR :-) ).
  
  Mani is careful in releasing his home production movies. Look at his idea, give a good hit movie by own direction then release a movie in your home production with a Director on whom you can prevail upon. So this home production, that not necessarily needs a heavy musical support, makes mani to choose other MDs and still get good output from them.
  
  also, oflate, the rumours like Mani switching to this MD that MD etc are, imho, "expectation building measure" carried out by Mani.

  Kupps..yes, one of the reasons MR looks for other MDs is cost. This home production thing is a 'less financial risk' but 'back-seat driving' direction effort. MR knows how to 'position', 'market' etc..all that he studied in Bajaj Inst of Mgmt :)

  MR is supposed to give the lowest sambaLam to his actors and technitians (Thats the reason Sarath refused to act in Iruvar - 'adimaattu vilaikku ketkiRaar' - he mentioned in an interview).,
  
  Looks like Madhavan gets less than one lakh as salary when it comes to mani's movies 'coz of GuruBakthi - no idea about ARR.,

  ok my actual answer, Mani wont get ARR for his production becoz: one. cost, two. I would be like mis-using his status as a mentor given how much demand ARR has. three, he has been using new people time to time for his production.
  Only chatriyan used IR, given the fact that IR still could have done dasarathan in no time.

  good point! but the fact remains that...this is the benefit that u reap when u discover a successful talent like ARR, PC sriram, Madhavan, A.swami(for sometime).. there should be a lot others like farah khan, editors asst. directors etc. who mani should be able to buy at "adimattu velai"
  
  mani's sucess with discovering success stories apart from making succesful movies put him on a high bargaining latitude... so he sows and so he reaps.. as simple as that.
  
  the reason why he doesnt use ARR is that he also needs variety ... already Madras talkies production follow the Mani movie making stereo type... if ARR and PCS were also always in the list... then it wudnt be any different frm mani's own movies.
  
  plus look at the example of how he switches cinematographer... PCS, Madhoo ambhat, rajeev menon, santosh sivan... all suggests his penchant for variety.
  
  so again I say its gonna be ARR... till something really bad happens..

  Reason why Mani keeps changing his technicians:
  
  He does not want to be taken for granted by anyone, including ARR. So keep changing people. At least generate some rumours similar to that. This will keep those people guessing whether they will get the nod for the next movie or not.
  
  This is also a strategy taught at Bajaj, I guess.

  Coming to the topic of switching MD's, there is Steven Spielberg, whom I consider the most innovative and original creator in my times. Ever since he started directing movies, he has only John Williams score for all his movies. Star Wars is not complete with the intro theme and so are the Indiana Jones series. The point is I think IR is close to the composition stlye of John Williams and in the same platform as far as competence goes. I didn't see a point why MR had to change his paradigm away from IR if he was giving mind blowing music. Ask anyone, MR's best scores (songs + BGM) have been from IR. Of course Iruvar and DilSe were great. But it missed something.....terribly something. Some myteries are never solved.

  I have to disagree. Iruvar is undoubtedly the best album in TFM history. Thiruda " is the most pathbreaking album. Despite great music by IR for MR, he has never given anything like ARR.

  Agni Naksthiram ran mainly for IR's music.
  
  Don't make such baseless statements like
