I was really surprised to hear to the tamil version of "Real salute". I remember reading about this feautre in different popular news papers and listening to this song on different channels a while ago and it was sung by a female singer...now howe come ilayaraja sang it? He is only good at composing...but plzzzzzzzzz no singing. Actually i got to listen to the song in different languages yesterday....but when it came to tamil..the feel of the song got totally lost...and by the way the whole theme was picturised on a lady so why a male playback singer? This is weird..Ilayaraja we agree that you are a mastreo but then plzzzzzzz dont play cheap politics like this....

scorpio.,
I watched the 'The Real Salute' Special program on SUNTv and they told the reason for this.,
Looks like female (Chorous) singers sang this song in all languages - including tamil., When the song was recorded in tamil, IR recorded one more version of the song in his own voice - just for his manathirupthi., Looks like he asked the producers to use the female chorous version for tamil also.,
But the producer (and the directors) felt IR's voice suits the situation well and used his version only.,
IMHO, IR's voice was good., The song may be picturised on a lady - but the theme of the song is a son / daughter asking mannippu to his / her mother for ignoring her (Lyrics - IR, He talks about the national flag when he says 'Amma')., So nothing wrong in having a male voice., IR's voice has good emotions - particularly for pathos songs., and more than that, he pronounces tamil the proper way - I don't see anything wrong in him singing this song.,
If you go by the logic 'having a male playback singer for a song which has a lady on screen is weird' - having a female chorous also doesn't make any sense., After all, there is only one lady on the screen ;-)

Deapak.,
It was really an emotional experience when we listen to the song - there may be conflicts on the theme of the picturisation - (Are we in such a sorry state - throwing national flag in kuppaith thotti - one of my friends asked me :-)., But the song was excellent., Particularly IR's lyrics., I recorded the song in my PC - FIRST for its poetic beauty., IMO, IR's JeevanuLLa isaiyum, Ganamaana kuralum (ammavaip paththip paadumpothu avarukku ketkaNumaa ? :-) pinnaalthaan varukiRathu.,
No Doubt, Its a great song, Sila idangaLil nijamaakavee enakku kaNNeer vanthathu - kaNNeer endRu solvathaivida, silirppu endRu sollalaam.,
IthaRku mael enakku sollath theriyavillai !
Pity is my recorded version of the song is not very good - lots of noice as I recorded directly from the TV., I need to start searching for the audio cassette.,
Kutti - cassetteee innum varalai., Real Salute eppa varomooooooo !!!
UVII,
I know there are 5 versions - 4 South Indian languages and Hindhi., Female Chorous singers have sung in all languages - except tamil, Where IR is the singer., I came to know from Meera that there is a SJ Version also.,

i agree with your argument...but why only in tamil did the producers want to use male voice why not in other languages? If he sang for his manatripthi what about the original singers agony? why only he sang it? There are better male singers to sing it...But when it was published in almost all the papers and the song was out a couple of times with the female version how could he ever change the lyrics and sing just for his manatripthi? I even today agree that there is no other MD as brilliant as Ilayaraja but as an elderly and popular person of the music industry he shouldn't have done it..iam sorry if i dis agree with you.

IR is history as far as TFI concerned.
He just like TR Pappa of those days.
scoring music for some documentaries and for some old friends.
He is defintively not the choice of current directors. And there is no way IR is going to make a comeback. He just doesnt have it any more with him the spark have died down.
His contributions to TFM is extraoridnary no one doubts or questions that, its just that his time has gone its the youngsters time ARR rules followed by the other, soon some other MD will and it will happen to ARR also this is an endless cycle so rest in peace

yaaro,
so what happened to ur prev point about not bashing other MD's. is it allright when sri bashes other MD's when they dont even figure in the discussion or did scorpio say ARR/non_IR sung better than IR.
why bring in irrelevant arguments here? say IR's voice suited the situation and leave!
Taken a list. ARR bashing by IR fans will be hazzar times more then vice versa.

Hi all,
This Real salute song sung by S.Janaki.I have not listen IR yet.Even I don't know whether it is sold in India/USA. This was presented to me by S.Janaki Amma(S.Janaki) herself, when I visited India last month.I have listen to the songs sung by S.Janaki is really goooood.
Correction I have only Kannada and Telugu version
(both by SJ)not Tamil as I have mentioned previously,I am really sorry. But I guess the same song has sung by S.Janaki in Tamil also. And also the lyrics are really tooo gooood.
Regards
Meera

Hi meera
You are so lucky to have met Janaki amma...But then as you said the tamil version is not sung by Janaki amma....it is sung by an upcoming artiste called sandhya..who off late has sung for "MAJNU"as stated in the paper. And the lyrics before changing were too good too...I got to hear the female version from one of my friend and the lyrics goes like "VARUVAAN VARUVAAN AZHADHE MEENDUM ANNAL GHANDHI" WHAT A POETIC VALUE FOR THOSE LYRICS...no doubt that ilayaraja has composed the lyrics..but my friends iam really sorry to say that they are the true translations of the telugu, tamil and kannada versions as i had the chance to listen to all the versions.whatever said and done if it had the original female version it wouldve bettered ARR's vandemaataram..i bet!!!!

Bharath: I really had a good laugh on your dig on sri's arguments!!! Good one!
Chittu Kuruvi: I had an equally good laugh on your statement that IR is the TR Pappa of those days, but I feel its vey strong IR bashing. IR has stopped working for commercial popularity as I see it but that doesnt get him off the race in TFM.
