Dheena,
Songs are great. Really a new trend of Music. Dheena is doing extremely well in the sale. YSR needs a big hit. I am sure, Dheena is the one. Now Pacnhu Arnuanachalam is trying his best for Rajini's Next movie. In such case, the MD will be 100 % Yuvan Shankar Raja. Come on YSR. You are the one, for the next generation. All the best for you in the coming years.

My favorite is Vatthi Kuchi. I am astonished by the mixing.

How come the drum parts are so good and other keyboards parts are totally local...out of the shelf drum loops?
If you like Dheena,
imho: you should also like arr's thenali. esp the banjo like sound, brass sounds, fretless sliding bass and early referenced drum beats are arr's ideas.
Hope YSR works more on melody if not Harris jeyaraj will overtake him very soon.
Like arr, Dheenna is being "hyped".

Guys, Vatthi Kuchi is just great. It starts with an intro music played on Spanish guitar in Flamengo Style. I appreciate YSR for doing it.
He mixed it so well with our kind of music and so flawless. Keep it up YSR.
Carefully observe the pallavi, it's nothing but an extract from dad's composition "Antha Nilava Than" in Mudhal Mariyadai. The pallavi of "vatthi Kutchi" and the saranam of "Antha Nilava Than" are very close and almost same ( just the two lines in the starting ). But both the dad and son have a different way of looking at the same piece. Dad treats it with folky and subtly with a WC style - Mellifluos. Son treated it in Ethnic Jazz in Flamengo Style. Generation difference but the rules of melody didnot seem to be different.
Guys, there's no hype at all about this guy, but he has some more movies to go before he matures into a world class composer.

Dheena is far better than Thennali. I Guess YSR has really worked on fitting the songs to the movie. Vatthikucchi patthikkadhu is my pick. I can guess the situation of the song in the movie. Dheena is not a hype. An album cannot be downgraded just because there was no melodious songs. Hope YSR will choose some movie where he can prove himself as a melody king.

Responsible_Critic:
it is "Flamenco" not "Flamengo"
I dont how we missed the "flemenco" in most of the arr songs starting from july matham vanthal to jumblaka jumblaka...mmm...yes we are one sided towards arr, I am also part of it
When I heard dheena I started to like arr, who is more structured.
Also english lyrics like computer, memeory...arr panna pavam...YSR panna it is great work. PongaPA!. How many will hear YSR if his initial was not "I".

Dear Velai_Vetti_nothing:
oops sorry... it's Flamenco. Thanks for your correction.
Be honest, don't you think his treatment of flamenco is better than those done by ARR. Guys,
Mukhe Mukhe Saraswathi...music is not just ARR or IR or somebody. If it's good it is not necessary to be consistent and persistent always. So there's nothing like YSR or some MD is going to do good music always. Did it sound good for you - that's all it matters. If it matter to many and if that many are big enough to decide, then YSR will be recognized in the industry as his predecessors like MSV, IR and ARR or whoever. It's all relative. We donot have any control over it.
Anyway as the context came, ARR has done good flamenco in Mr. Romeo title song but not the ones you mentioned. This is again how it matters to others. I know there are lot of differences in each one's taste. I respect yours and say yes ARR has worked in those songs in Flamenco style.

Just heard Dheena on the web..just curious..(I'd rather listen to bArathi :)). What kind of genre is nee illai enRal especially the bass (technofunk ?) ? Also, there is a plucked string kind of instrument playing along. What is it ? Interesting song.
I do think YSR is guilty of things which people accuse ARR of. But he keeps the singing unaffected by any attitude.

r_C no offense,
You have a valid point,
ysr is any day better than deva and SAR.
I am sure we are going to have good music in 2001, Ysr and KR have few movies to go, Harris jeyaraj has few...will arr do some thing new....time will tell.

I guess parts of the album are mixed at London, that should be the reason. OTOH, "nandhA", whole album will be recorded in London, so we might see the difference soon with new sounds in it.

VVN:
You stick to the point ARR is better. But I don't think that's the discussion topic here. Almost 80% of people in this section agree that Dheena sounds great. There are some who clearly mentioned about Dheena cassette sales. So you have a different perception from the majority of people here. Thenali music was a clear flop and you seem to still support that.

Filflo: I feel both the album are somewhat same. nothing big. anyway thats my opinion.
90%...told friends is great etc, beliving it I got the cd, but finally when i heard it, frankly a head cleaner cd has better use than friends. Head cleaner cd could be sold more than that album. Mere waste of money and time..so people here are simply hyping, be it arr or ir or ysr or anyone for that matter.

I agree with VVN. Whoever it's they are just mortals. I laugh at the film MDs when they take an excuse that they cannot give their best for every damn movie. They have to be choosy. Yes it's true, they are scared that if they give their best for every album then sooner they run out of ideas. This shows how insecure they are...
Guys, I know immortal composers would never do injustice to their compositions...I can't blame as the subject around which the music is based is itself not an immortal one... The immortal composers choose the immortal subjects on which they can base the compositions... and so they produce good music consistently...guys that should be our destination... Unfortunately many music lovers feel classical music is unreachable...but the same guys when it's presented in a mortal manner in films, it comes to their reachability...But these mortal, self-centered, just a mere bread winners have intervened enough with the tastes of current generation so that they have been kept far enough from immortality...
It's time get back... If you're concerned...start now...learn everything about music...if not as a performer but to appreciate...it's possible to change these guys to make something mortal...I can say we are responsible for everything that's heard bad or good. How can somebody does it if we donot give them our feedback... Stop buying the CDs and let it go...make them feel...

Re: Classical music vs film music.
Okay..first people should recognise between copied/recycled songs :) then they can really appreciate how the melody flows, pitch changes, beat changes etc. and move on to classical stuff. How can people appreciate music if they dont teach them in school ? They only learn MPC (Maths/Physics/Chem) or BPC :)
Responsible_critic ..I understand your disappointment. But I dont think we can blame the film MDs fully. I understand your desire to get to the basics. I also think this applies to programming as well. We need more depth and passion in all our endeavors.

Kiru:
Who taught Film Music to the people...the same guys are responsible morally on teaching classical too...I know to perform, you need to be trained in a school...but to appreciate wouldn't these MDs worth of it??? if not let them be out of business... All junk they produce shall be marketed and make advantage of innocence...
Let them do right things...
