Some extreme quality songs were produced by Shankar Ganesh's combination with SPB in the early 70s.
Should we enumerate, analyse, discuss those great ones from a truly remarkable period?

Any nostalgia buffs here?
I don't understand Tamil yet I can enjoy so many songs in it, specially from the early 70s.
What about that resounding and emphatic repetition of the word "Radha....radha....radha by SPB in an early 70s song? Was not it composed by Shankar Ganesh?? There might be many more such thunderous and powerful songs by this combination in that period (circa 1968 to 1973).

Sim,
The Radha Radha song you're talking about is,
en kaadhal kanmani
aedhaedhoa ninaithaaloa
solla naanam vandhadhoa
sollaamal maraithaaloa
radha radha radha
I'm not sure if SG did the music for this.

I am not sure if this has been discussed before. Yesterday by chance I was watching the song "Adho andha thendral oru poovai kEttadhu, poova illai penna endru ennai paarkudhu" or something similar to that. I am almost certain it is Shankar Ganesh who composed the music, because at the time of its release I recall my circle of TFM lovers claiming it is by MSV and later it was made known it was indeed SG who composed the song. A good song.

Music4ever,
I think the song u mentioned was sung by Malysia Vasudevan and not SP Bala. BTW, which movie is that? Some Bhakiyaraaj movie, right?

GCT_Kuil, I am sorry I did not read the title of the thread properly. I just assumed it is a thread for SG. Of course MV sang that song from the movie Poi Saatchi. Yes, it is a Bhakiyaraaj movie. Didn't he have trouble releasing it? Or is it that the movie bombed?
As for SPB+SG, how about the following song (although it also has a female voice)?
Pullanguzhal mozhi thamizh thamizh thamizh-ena
poovai idhazh muthu chimizh chimzh-ena
vandhaaL ....
Also
Nadiganin kaadhali
naadagam Enadi
aadalil paadalil vallavan naanadi
from thai sollai thattadhE?

on: Tue Aug 12 14:22:57 EDT 2003
Oops isn't thaai sollai thattadhE an MGR movie? The song that I mentioned is from a kamal movie which I think also starts with "thaai".

Music4ever,
I remember Poisatchi was released. Infact, I remember watching this movie recently in video tape (But ofcourse forgot the song!). I remember this movie released during my school days and was a utter flop.
Which movie is Pullanguzhal .... song?
Nadiganin Kaathali is from Thaai Illamal Naan Illai (Kamal and Sri Devi)

GCT_Kuil, I have no idea which movie the Pullanguzhal song is from. There were a number of SG songs in the early to mid eighties that were good to hear.

On the topic of SG, (though not SPB),
does anyone remember the stylish song - Deviyin thirumugam darisanam thandadhu' from Vellikizhamai viratham. Masterpiece.

how about the song, 'Avazh oru menahai' from the film natchathram, SPB was awsome in this song :)

on: Wed Aug 13 09:07:39 EDT 2003
Aval oru menagai is a great song. SPB's one of the best. I heard SG suttufied the tune from telugu movie but still it's a great song indeed.
Dheviyin thirumugam is copied from a hindi song but I can't remember it now.

The Poi Saatchi song is a duet by VJ-MVD (SG) and it has an "MGR"ish feel to it.
Pulanguzhal Mozhi Thamizh Thamizh Thamizh Ena...
A memorable duet by VJ-SPB (MSV) from the film Oorum Uravum.
Both these songs are available at www.vanijairam.com
Deviyin Thirumugam, AFAIK, is not based on an Hindi number. The "hindi" bit in the song is a popular "interlude" from Bobby (from the song Ae Ae Ae Ae Fasah,) which was used by SG for this song.

BTW, Is Natchaththiram's MD Shankar Ganesh?? I thought it was Devaraajan!

Naaz, what a pleasant surprise that the Pullanguzhal song was composed by MSV. The Poi Satchi song definitely has an MGR-ish feel to it. That's why many of us thought then that it was composed by MSV! :)
GCT_Kuil, I believe Natchathiram's MD was SG.

Music4ever -
Yes, the "MGR"ish feel in Poi Saatchi was intentional I would think (remember how Bhagyaraj was into "en raththaththin raththame" and such) and SG went back to their Naan Yaen Pirandhaen/Idhaya Veenai days to pick up that essence in the 80s!
There is another IR song by VJ-MVD which also feels like an MGR number (it was for Rajnikanth...so not all that much of a stretch) which is "Sugam Sugame Thodaththodath Thaane" from Naan Potta Savaal. When I listen to this song I am reminded of "Neram Pournami Neram" (Meenava Nanban) and "Inbame Undhan Paer Pennmaiyo" (Idhayakkani) - both by MSV.
Natchchaththiram was by SG, but I believe almost all the songs were either derived or "lifts" from the original Sivaranjani. The music for this film was by Charkravarthi or Ramesh Naidu? Somebody else who is familiar with TeFM might have the right answer.

Naaz, indeed Bhagyaraj even used some steps that were reminiscent of MGR in the andha ezhu naatkal song "enni irundhadhu eedera", IIRC. It is time I listened to the hits of Meenava Nanban. I used to love the song thangathil mugam pudhaithu in Meenava Nanban in the seventies :)
I believe Natchathiram MD was Chakravarthi. I could be wrong though.

Sankar Ganesh is the MD for Oorum Uravum. Sivaji and KRViajaya acted in the lead roles. Direction is Major Sundarajan.
I am surprised to know SG was the MD for Poi Saatchi. Whenever I hear the song, I had a strong feeling that MSV was the composer.

Radavan
You are right.
Some of the early Bagyaraj movies MSV was the MD.
Antha 7 naatkaL, oru kai Osai, Bama rukmani, Poy saatchi.
In Poy saatchi the court scene was hilarious.
Bama rukmani had a very good duet by SPB and Janaki "nee oru kOdi malar koodi uruvAnavaL ezhil uruvAnavaL" - Bagyaraj and Pravina.
oru kai osai had one SPB duet "muthu thAragai vaana veedhi vara"

So the controversy still continues. Like I said earlier, my circle of TFM listeners initially (and strongly) felt MSV was the MD of Poi Saatchi, and later we were reconciled to the fact that it was SG. Sathya, are you sure MSV was the MD of Poi Saatchi?
- From: G.Ragavan (@ 202.9.170.105)
on: Thu Aug 14 09:29:11 EDT 2003
Sathya, "Muthuth Thaaragai" was it now by PJayachandran?
Bama Rukmani has one more good song "Gokulak Kannan Nee Enru Indthak Kothaikuth Therium" by VJ. "Kathavath Theradi Bama" by MV is also good.
If SG is the MD for "Poi Saatchi" then they had heavy influence of MSV's music.
