1.The 'Yuhi chaala ' song from swades was orginally composed for Lagaan .
2.Harris Jeyaraj worked with him only for 2 films !!
3.On today's music -
"What is today's Tamil film music all about? They are nothing more than fast numbers or remix downloaded. What took me weeks to make music for a "Gentleman" or "Rangeela" can be done today if you have a computer, software and then pre-set the rhythms and you have a disco number! Fast music is no big deal today as anyone can become a music director"

Ivar pannina Genius, aduthavar pannina it is no big deal. Enna logic idhu? what else .. sour grapes. It is pathetic to see him losing all the confidence. If it is NO BIG DEAL to be a MD, why the hell he is not able to give any hits since 2000?

Is anyone else discomfited by Rahman's slightly self-aggrandising tone in the interview? I hope it's the journalist's transcribing that is to blame for quotes like "gave Celine Dion a run for her money." Whatever happened to the self-deprecating ARR we all love and admire?
This might indicate that the pressure of a few commercial setbacks, and the emergence (finally!) of serious competition in the form of HJ/YSR/VS is beginning to tell on the composer's famed cool demeanor. It'd be a pity if this is indeed the case.
Survival exigencies have had an adjusting effect on the huge gulf that yawned between Rahman and the rest. Everyone has the same or similar hardware/software, everyone has big projects (Rising, Chandramukhi, Anniyan and so on), so what is the next big differentiator? This is what we should be speculating on.
Now the game gets really interesting.

What he was getting at with the celine comment is SUNITHA sang so well that celine dion would be afraid of HER (SUNITHA'S) talent. celine is a singer sheeesh.
"music is no big deal today as anyone can become a music director"
THE FULL COMMENT READS AS SUCH:
"Have you lost interest in fast western beats that you were famous for?
(Smiles) What is today's Tamil film music all about? They are nothing more than fast numbers or remix downloaded. What took me weeks to make music for a "Gentleman" or "Rangeela" can be done today if you have a computer, software and then pre-set the rhythms and you have a disco number! Fast music is no big deal today as anyone can become a music director."
u pulled ur quote WAY out of context my friend mm. ARR is saying now a days in tfm the majority of people are doing fast upbeat music.which during his early days took long tedious time to make fast numbers work and be successful, now in today's age does not take time to do.he said FAST music is no big deal today.that is why he is doing less fast music and more melodies now a days.

"music is no big deal today as anyone can become a music director"
Opportunistic quoting eh mm? He was referring to "fast" music. And something to that effect is already being said by several participants in this forum. Namely, that hardware and software for mixing and production have rendered certain aspects of modern pop production very simple. On the other hand listeners have become increasingly jaded, songs that would have created sensations in the mid-90's now pass entirely without comment. In short the bar has been raised very high.
So what is the answer? Invest in more expensive equipment and escalate the technological arms-race? Or subvert the whole setup by adopting minimalism and understatedness? We'll know soon enough.
Of course, anything said by anyone in public is fair game for target practice, the same applies to your statements. And to mine. So fire away.

Piratheepan, please refrain from talking down to us. We know who Celine Dion is. Firstly, his quote doesn't mention Sunitha. Secondly even if he did, what about his comments on Yuhi Chala? I believe he should leave the praising and condemning to others.
Take it easy.

Are u talkin abt ARR's quote? if u are here it is
"In Goa when the songs were premiered at the opening ceremony, I was touched by the response I received. The theme music "A moment I am searching for... " for this Subhash Ghai epic sung by Sunitha Sarathy has given Celine Dion a run for her money. Another song in "Kisna' album "Hum Hai Iss Pal Yahan... " sung by Udit Narayan and Madhusree is unconventional with a catchy rhythm."
it does mention Sunitha.

Oh God, I knew you'd come back with that. The big problem here is that if one doesn't state everything in black and white, very soon someone will "catch" you out with the flourish of a highly-paid attorney.
What I meant to say was that Rahman's statement there is ambiguous in its attribution of credit. All he says is that the theme music has given a Celine Dion a run for her money, he DOES NOT say Sunitha Sarathy gave Dion...etc. Not having the patience to explain myself in this much detail I took the short-cut of saying he does not mention Sunitha. Only to pay for it by having to explain myself in even greater detail. Thanks.
Anyway let's for the moment assume that the ambiguity was unintended, that he did truly mean that Sunitha gave Dion..etc. Why not let others say it, why push your own song in such terms? He does a similar thing with Yuhi Chala, which you conveniently failed to comment upon.

All this is beginning to seem as if I've embarked upon a Rahman witch-hunt. Nothing could be farther from the truth. I believe that Rahman is starting to show signs of cracking under pressure, and I hate to see that. For a long time he has set an example of decent behaviour in all circumstances, now he's repeatedly making statements that appear to be openly critical of other MDs. I find this development alarming. I'm baffled that his fans never acknowledge this.
In one interview he's caught saying that other MDs have their assistants compose for them, now he's dismissing all of current TFM as downloaded remixes. Even if all this were true, I believe Rahman should let his work speak for him instead of indulging in polemics of this sort. Otherwise there is little difference between him and Nadeem.
I don't know, maybe I'm being too hard on him, without the escape vent of snarky comments he might find it even harder to process and deal with reality. Yet he's seen more success on an national and international level than any other Indian MD before him. When will it be enough?
I'm not saying the end is near, or that the game is over yet, but it has to end someday, and the most heroic response would be acceptance, to graciously welcome the new, to let go.

ARR isnt a man of many words so therefore it may of seemed ambiguous to u.
the question to ARR:
Your feedback on "Swades" album.
thus he would have to talk abt his own album.
"Yun Hi Chala Chal... " has clicked with the youth in a big way. A western beat with drums and guitar has been used wonderfully. All the three singers Udit, Hari and Kailash have put their heart and soul into the number. And let me tell you a secret that this tune was originally composed for "Lagaan" but was not used! ."
and i feel he doesnt praise himself.he states the youth like it which is being said by all the reviews and such(feedback.) and once again he praises the instruments usage.i guess here is where u may feel is where he praises himself.i feel he is just commenting on the song which everyone enjoys.and that he is happy with the musicians.and then he goes on to praise the singers again.
thus like i said before i dont feel he is praising himself he is praising the people involved with his music.just as with Sunitha in the other question.
