Hi! We've made a major addition to newtfmpage, and that is a big song bank. Dhool features thousands of songs for your listening pleasure. This site is a part of the newtfmpage.com - swara.com group. Together with newtfmpage, we wish to make this the best place to listen to tamil film songs online and know about tamil film music. Our collection includes old, new, famous, rare and unheard of songs. We are still fine tuning and fixing the database errors, so please bear with us. We value your feedback, and this will help us build the site better. Please post your comments below or mail to comments@newtfmpage.com.

I don't know what to make of this Hemant Kumar song. Let's just leave it at: Glad this sort of novelty didn't go too far those days.
Hydrofluoric acid brings to mind (in context) the song :Kahin Deep Jale Kahin Dil (Bees Saal Baad - Don't know why, but this film was the Bobby of the 60s in the south, esp. TN - and the composer was the indraiya SOTD padagar.)

Let me add my tailpiece to your noble query: Why do Tamils suffer them at all?
Rajasthani Punjabi padagargal/padagigalai thedi, therndhu padasolli...ellam cute-aa irrukku-nnu sollubavar irukkum varaiyil...TN-le tamizh arindhu, tamizh kalacharaththil oorndha kalainargale illaiya? (But not that much is different there: Shreya or Harini - if that is the only choice - then I guess this vellam has gone many many muzhams over the head :-))

Song of the Day: Rock Rock Rock from Pathi Bhakthi.

- This take off on rock and roll by Chandrababu and Trichy Loganathan is a wild ride. Probably the most freaked out rock song in TFM, Chandrababu renders this tamil version of Bill Haley and the Comets' "Rock around the clock". The song suddenly shifts to an Atana Raagam, and bounces back and forth from Carnatic to Rock. I am not sure whether this song came before or after "eenaa meenaa deekaa".

It is simply great! it takes me to another world 40 years back when even sinnging not whistling cinema songs was Sin during school days of course!now we can recall and recite at our hearts content..more over preserving the songs/records/without casettes itself is a good job..Keep it up for the benefit of thousands and some youngsters who wish to explore the days of MGR-sarojadev/sivajipadmini if not TRMahalingam-yogamangalam!I see the old movies every month at local Vintage Heritage shows (chennai)

bb, thanks for this song. Incredibly freaky. Probably on par with "Varavendum oru pozhudhu" from Kalaikovil.

MSV in his recent Isaipayanam programme on Jaya TV mentioned that he was a Cliff Richards fan and on being challenged (by Sivaji? I dont remember) to come out with a song in that style he composed "Yaar andha nilavu" in Shanthi. Contrary to what many of us might have been thinking, exposure of the MDs to western music was pretty good even in those days.

Thanks, KNGanesh. I don't know who yogamangalam is.
Vijay, I think avaLukkenna, azhagiya mugam is also an equally stylized song.
Song of the Day: naan pEsa vandhEn from paalootti vaLartha kiLi.

- Here's a very rare, great song to get into the weekend mood. This is Ilayaraja's second film, and probably the first song that SPB sung for IR. At least, one of the earliest songs that SPB has sung for IR.
- The song itself is vintage IR stuff. I am sure this song will remind people of the nostalgic Vividh Bharathi days. The rendition by SPB and SJ is superb, SJ especially with a subdued voice like LRE in "kaadhOdu thaan nan paaduvEn". The song sounds like "orE naaL unai naan" in patches, to me.
- Is this really IR's second film? There is a thread exclusively on that subject :) http://www.newtfmpage.com/forum/25849.19:20:25.html

BTW, this song is another example to reiterate what I was saying earlier about IRs change in style around 1980. In his first 3 or 4 years there were many songs like this which were barely over 3 mins long with shorter interludes and minimal orchestration. They were no less captivating, but appealed to us in a different way altogether. SPB and SJ are both awesome in this song, complimenting each other perfectly.

balaji, Thanks for this gem. (missing in my collection). I vividly remember this as the second Illayaraja movie. Yes, one of the few songs where SJ keeps an atypical low profile. It is interesting to observe that MSV preferred SPB-PS, Raja SPB-SJ and SG SPB-VJ those days.
Yes, Vijay I have similar opinion about early IR.

I have a collection of Cassettes on SPB's enathu isai payaNam.. When asked to talk, SJ sang
"Naan Pesa vandhen solla thaan ore vaarthai illai"
and said Thank You. You then hear a huge applause.

This is an evergreen song, distilling the best that we recognise in the talents of IR, SPB and SJ to this day. Paalootti Valartha Kili would have been an incredibly stressful film for IR. Annakili had made him an household name in an instant, there was this palpable hold-your-breath waiting in the media and among the TN public: Flash in the Pan or. We couldn't be more fortunate for the outcome.
The style (atmospheric) of Naan Pesa Vandhaen has been replicated by IR, in other early songs: Paruvame Pudhiya Ragam Padu, Ninaivo Oru Paravai, and the later O Papa Lali from Geethanjali/Idhayaththai Thirudadhey.
Of the recent songs, Sangidha Swarangal from Azhagan, touched the heart with a feather of delicate romance. But, still, it could only be a competent facsimile of Naan Pesa Vandhaen.
Some songs are deserving of a special plaque in memory. This one shimmers there in a golden frame.

Naaz,
I think Azhagan MD is Maragatha mani! I think, may be you are just comparing the music style and not the songs specific to latest IR songs...??
