Hindi is sweet, Tamil is not - Says Karthik Raja
In an interview aired Tuesday (July 28) on Singapore's Oli Tamil Radio, to a question Karthik Raja replied that he likes composing for Hindi movies because the language is so sweet and makes his composition sound sweet. He went on to say that he thinks that that sweetness is missing in Tamil.
When the interviewers (two women) asked him about the current generation of singers he said that after SPB and Hariharan there has been no new male singer who is versatile. He added that the new male singers are all so monotonous.
The two women interviewers spoke in pure Tamil and only in Tamil. Karthik Raja's vocabulary was about 70% English and 30% Tamil. (At the end of the interview, the interviewers thanked him for his efforts to speak in Tamil.)
The interviewers asked who were the singers in his latest album, Karthik replied "Vijay Parakash, from Mumbai". The interviewers repied, "yeah, north indian singers' voices do have a vaseegaram".
I was so impressed at the maturity, diplomacy and the pride in heritage of the interviewers (the two Singaporean women).

Grrrrr...
Thoongum puliyei idarivittargaL!
So Hindi is sweet...Since when?Since the day when an wooden, ageing Hindi actor with huge bags under the eyes turns out to be your ONLY patron.Comrades-in-distress!hmm!
Immature posters, frustrated inept musicians -Kya jodi hai!
Tamil is difficult to master-so is Yoga,so is Kung-fu ,Tai-chi,Wu-shu ,Vipasana,TM,Linux,Wealth Tax Act,FEMA Act,IFRS -they require the learner/practioner to have a certain discipline and passion.God save men who have neither!

Guys,
Since the controversy abt musicians working in night has cropped up, I read in a recent posting that even VS works in the night these days. Seems like thats the trend in TFM!!!.

Mumbai Ramki: Bharathi also said that carnatic vocalists should sing in Tamil and not in languages they did not know and the audience did not know. Kalki said the samething. This language 'problem' has been in Carnatic music for a long time. Only now you see Tamil compositions opening the concert. Only now you see CDs of compositions by Oothukkadu Venkatasubbiar,Gopalakrishna Bharathi, Bharathiyar,Andal, Thevaram moovar et al. You could not have found that 30 or 40 years back. There is change. TFM has not caught up.

I would not comment on the Interview, till i hear it personally.
Coming back to the Topic. Hindi is sweet and Tamil is not
may be it is hard to learn, understand and digest.. I will give a corollary to Carnatic Music.. Thyagaraja's songs were like grapes, you can just sing and enjoy the taste, Shyama sashtri's songs were like peeling a banana, though some strain has to be taken, still enjoy the pleasure after a little effort, but Dhikshitar kritis were like break open a coconut and enjoying the sweetness. It is sweet in different ways.
So people dont come up with titles of discussion like this.. and b4 we do that let us analyze the history, tamil is one of the few ancient languages in its purest form, no derivates added to it. Not like Hindi which was derived from Sanskrit.. ( i am not against Hindi ) just giving facts.
So instead of arguing, just enjoy the sweetness in its own way and roots.
