THE MOST happening industry in the world is entertainment. People worldwide
spend billions of dollars for various forms of entertainment. According to a
recent survey, the new age entertainment that is raking in the moolah is
`Live Shows'.
Last week, cashing in on the huge demand for Bollywood related shows, a
Chinese culture company organised "Bollywood Dhamaka" in various cities of
China, including Beijing and Shanghai.
This show, with little known Bollywood stars, has taken China by storm and
tickets were sold in black! And half the number of songs that were sung and
choreographed were A. R. Rahman hits in Tamil and Hindi, while the audience
was Chinese!!
Allah Rakha Rahman is undoubtedly the magician of music right there at the
top with icons like Michael Jackson and Jennifer Lopez.
With an estimated 52 million albums sold in Tamil and Hindi, Rahman has
revolutionised music and has had the kind of success that no Indian musician
has enjoyed in the international arena.
So when Rahman goes "live" and that too for the first time in Chennai, where
it all started 10 years back, it is much more than home coming.
Rahman is going to mesmerise the Chennai audience with "Unity of Light -
World Tour" on February 21.
He is going to perform free to fulfil a friend's last wish to raise funds
for the Mahesh Memorial Trust which has been set up for the noble cause -
"Live - Beyond Cancer".
Mahesh was a brilliant composer, who started composing jingles like Rahman
did before doing a couple of films. But his career and life were cut short
due to cancer to which he succumbed a few months back.
Added Rahman: "My father R. K. Sekhar too died of cancer. So I can relate to
this concert and do my best to make it memorable."

A R Rahman concert in rough weather
Chennai, Jan 31
The Gymkhana Club on Thursday moved Madras High Court, seeking to
stay music director A R Rahman's live concert, to be held in the Golf
Course at Madras Race Club(MRC) on February 21, for raising cancer
relief fund.
The show is being conducted for the Mahesh Memorial Trust, providing
cancer relief, in which actor Kamal Haasan, cricketer Krishnammachari
Srikkanth and Director Mani Ratnam are trustees.
Justice A Gulasekaran, before whom the petition came up for hearing,
said all the senior counsels appearing in this case should arrive at
a solution over this issue, keeping in mind that the show was meant
for a noble cause and posted the case to Friday.
Following this, senior counsels T V Ramanujam, Mohan Parasaran, A L
Somiyaji and P S Raman agreed to visit the golf course Thursday
evening.
The Madras Gymkhana Club(MGC) submitted some people were running
rehearsals on a stage erected within the playing area of the Golf
Course without permission.
When the members protested, it was promised that the stage would be
removed. But, the Mahesh Memorial Trust, in a letter dated January
27, 2003, stated that permission had been obtained from the MRC on
December 23, 2002 for running a musical extravaganza on February 21.
The letter nowhere stated that permission was for the Rahman music
show, expected to draw more than 30,000 people.
While the Trust had no legal right to enter the course, the MRC had
no right to interefere with the possession of the Golf Course, MGC
Contended.

Music legend to set Chennai ablaze
IN
For the first time, live for the Chennai audience

The Unity of Light show is part of the first leg of A.R. Rahman's World Tour 2003. After shows in Kolkata and Hyderabad, the Unity of Light Show will reach its final leg in India show at Chennai. Then it's off to conquer the world - from New York, to Los Angeles and to Dubai. One fabulous show to enthral audiences around the world.

The Unity of Light Show
After the magic of "Bombay Dreams", Rahman has created a new concept and a new theme that cuts across geographical, racial and communal boundaries. Rahman has composed a special opening theme for this concert tour. In "Unity of Light", he sees the white light holding seven colours in its womb cutting across boundaries in all its purity. A concept he has brought alive with the seven notes of music for people to raise their vision beyond narrow domestic walls.
The Chennai show is special, given the fact that it is likely to be the only destination on the tour to feature Rahman's entire repertoire of Tamil, Hindi and International Music in fair proportions.
Mahesh Memorial Trust
The Trust is a registered body that came into being in November 2002 as a non-profit organization that will work towards:
