Is IR is the first asian to score symphony

Recently I saw a program in CNN, about a hongkong composer, who composed a symphony. Sony was relesing it. Even today in NJ local paper, carried an article on other chinese composer, who is
releasing a symphony. Guess what, it is also sony.

I dont know whether people who said that IR is
the first asian, have done their home work properly. Anyhow I have fed up seeing this, and
it is so sad to see IR and his royal fans concentrating on annan and tambi songs, instead of
real thing.
IR should have used Bangalore Miss world function to premiere part of his symphony. I wonder why
cant go and ask for a time slot in a program like
filmfare or other important programs and premiere
his symphony in little pieces, just to get people
attention. After all symphony sound should be universal, and what is the wrong in creating some media hype. Even the popular stars like madona needs promos and hype for their new releases.
IT is the high time for IR to hire some media
promotors, if he is really thinking of doing some
thing with his symphony. Otherwise it will end up
like NBW or HTNI, no one in north of Kummdipundi will ever get a chance to hear it.

  I love IR's music above anything. It seems to me IR is not as driven as he was in his early days, when he was out to sort-of prove himself. His early music, was sort of a reflection of his enthusiasm and motivation he had when he was young and a rising star. He seems to lack such characterisitcs these days, turning himself into a shell of "god", or "yogi" and all sort-of those things. His modesty is awesome but I do not agree with him when he says God gave him the music. We all know that his success is due to his knowledge, talent and the skills and mental patterns he developed over the years playing with musical instruments, and the intelligent, quick, free-flowing, open-minded and religious application of these skills to songs, it seems to me.
  
  He is getting old now. Right now it is time for him to get into more organized form of orchestration such as Symphonies or concertos or even, who knows, village style operas? May be he can creat an entirely new palatte of music (although he has already done it in bits and pieces as interludes). There are lots of avenues to express himself these days. In my opinion, he is the only one who has the (broad) knowledge and capability to take Tamil music to another level, like he did decades ago. The time is infact ripe. The Western Classical is alive today, since those composers played in churches, congregations, and even to armies in time of trouble. Additionally their notes and scores are well documented, so anyone like, say, Boston or Cincinnati orchestra can play and further popularize anytime. The notes of his music should be recorded if they were to survive. With his movie songs, the problem is copyrights. Therefore he ought to do something himself, if he were to build an era like Western composers. May be he lacks a good PR guy or team.
  
  But he seem s not to care. May be he is sort of frustrated and withdrawm, with all the politics in Cinema world, with even the big directors who once had to rely on him to make successful movies, now ditching him. It is sad that such a genius is knowlingly or unknowingly (seemingly) getting or forced into austerity. I hope that something happens to change this state of affairs. I am somewhat distressed by his state, let alone his music these days. Something should be done, otherwise Tamil world could lose a genius into oblivion.

  Ravi has written what many countless fans of Raja feel.If the fans could do something in that process,Iam sure all of us will be happy to do that.I already once wrote to Kamal in an e-mail in Jan 98 that he and Raja should work together again.Eventhough my wish(and ofcourse all Raja fans' wishes) hasn't happened after that,Iam optimistic that Raja will soon get some motivation to give greater glimpses of his already well known talent.

  Ravi, with age and changing times, enthusiasm diminishes. the age of innocence was fast vanishing when during raja's peak times. music is a indication of the mood of the times and this inspired the greatest of composers like Bach (chruch music) and Beethoven and till the 1970s you saw that. testoterone levels have gone up all over the world and pumped up music or noise is the thing, in this environment what motivation is there for Raja even though he has all the money to do things on his own

  The article given by IRF01 is very good for a meaninful discussion amongst all of IRs fans around the world.
  
  The writer has brought out intricate technicalities of the Maestro as well as poured out his frustrations. I think his views should be taken as a positive criticism of a die hard IR fan.

  IRF01, very inspired writing by that author. Why was it not published in English too/ Could you please send this article to Shibu T N for him to put it up on his web page 'Articles on IR'.
  
  The author like many of us is very passionate about IR's works and has voiced everyones' concerns about IR's remarks and actions these days. IR has been affected in some way which we are not aware of and that is the mystery of this. Or his enthusiasm faded in creating western classical works. I would says he may continue to serve pickles and papads in non-filmic fashion because I still don't find anything that compares to those. Forget the main course!

  That was an excellent and thought provoking article. In some other forum I saw people trying to contact other symphony orchestras or trying to get a project to bring out IRs background scores in new recordings, etc.
  
  Let me tell you some thing. IR is in a fix now. OR for that matter any one who wants to help IR. What ever he wants to do now in the international scene, the question why his work with the great RPO is not released yet will stare at him wherever he goes.
  
  On the other hand if that first work comes out then that will automatically open up new avenues.(Irrespective of what the critics say about it) If any thing it will serve as a good reference point to talk to any body in the international music scene.
  
  Let us not forget this basic fact, folks.

  You seem to be knowing more about music in general and IR in particular. Your article gave opened up to the technical side of IR. Many of us are die hard fans but at least I for one was not aware of his technical prowess and it is amazing to know that from that article. It really makes me wonder what is this man doing in Madras? And that too after having done some thing with a great name like the RPO? God only knows.
  
  As Rajan Bala wrote, releasing the RPO recording itself will open up lot of doors for IR. Without that, if you try to do some thing then you will have the embarrassing question why was it not released?
  
  After all not every TDH gets an opportunity nor gets the guts to write a complex music like a symphony and certainly not every one can think of it being played by an institution like the RPO.

  This is one of the most insightful articles that I have read. The writer has the gumption to call a spade a spade. My his tribe increase.
  
  I am an ardent IR fan and I cannot really add anything new to what the writer of the article has said. One reason for IR not to release his symphony is that he is in some sort of a contractual bind - Heaven knows what that may be!
  
  Or is it nerves? I have heard of Flute Mali that at times he would refuse to perform because he was not sure if he could play at the level that he liked to. Is IR suffering from some self-doubts of this sort? Is he looking for some inner ideal of perfection that he feels may have not been met in his symphony?
  
  I agree that IR is a composer who has deigned to grace the film world with his magic. So, is it probable that he does not care much about the quality of his film music, but when it comes to his symphony which is close to his heart, he wants only appreciation and ne'er a word of criticism?
  
  Again one can only guess at the reasons behind all this. But what this means is that rumours will abound, conjectures will be made and the fair name of IR will be mud.
  
  May God throw light on this and save IR from ridicule.

  On the comment God save IR from this ridcule. I don't think someone who is as self-realized, confident and complete as IR is even bothered by what some ignorant people say about him.
  
  A lot of times, I don't even bother about what others say...when you know you do something really well and you love what you do..nothing else matters...
  
  That is why I am able to relate to what Raja does a lot of times...and I am nowhere in the same league as Raja has in his acheivements. As far all this talk of being ridiclued or his name being muddied, I could only picture him just smiling at the ignorance of such talk.
  
  When you realize and know you are really good, things such as the race for being the no.1, having a big fan following, the adorations, the awards, the big banners do not really matter. It is we the IR fans who are more worried when IR doesn't score music for ManiRatnam or rajni or Kamal or in Hindi movies ....It really does not matter for IR.
  
  Therefore my fellow IR fans, let us not feel worried.
