  Well.. I wanted to write a detailed account, but for want of time, let me make it brief.

  Whom you think as the best contributor in 1997? PLEASE READ CAREFULLY. The topic is - who did the best in 1997? Why do you think so? Pl don't throw in negative remarks and spoil this discussion.
  Let's do a constructive analysis.

  Rajaraman says that IR has done 7 and not 11. BTW, you are right abt minsaarak kanavu. It was released alongwith iruvar for Pongal, 1997.

  I also read something similar in tamil murasu. It said that 'since ARR has become an international artiste, he did not spend much time for TFM and hence he has done only 3 movies this year'.
  
  Deva has to be appreciated for his productivity. We can say that half of them were lifts. But with others also doing the same copy/paste tech, and manage only less/close to 10, Deva has to get his due.

  If Minrsara Kanavu was released in Jan 1997,
  how did it get 1996 National Awards?
  
  Continuing on about TFM in 1997:
  
  About ARR in 1997, is it fair to say that MK and Rakshagan were musical success ? Iruvar's music sank with the movie, didn't it ?
  
  Could some one summarise how IR (and his 11 movies) did in terms of commercial success?

  I am sorry for that ambiguous statement. It looked as if I included IR also in the comparison. Sorry for sounding so. Comparing any aspect of IR to others in that list is an insult to IR. I will never do that. I meant to say that Deva is much better than ARR, Sirpi etc.. who also copy paste, but still productivity is less.

  I think there is some rule behind classifying movie based on the year. Kamal's mahanadhi was released for pongal 1994 but got some award for 93. Later it was told that Kamal had 'registered' that movie in 93 itself. Maybe there is something similar to MK also. But MK came to theatres only for pongal 97.

  The rule is that you have to get your film cerified by the end of the year in order to qualify for the National awards. MK was registered before Dec 31. The same thing with ANthimantharai which got award in 96 but was registered in 95.
