Yes! "Invincible" Is the new album by Michael Jackson. ARR composed a song with him for this album about a year ago. Planet Jackson has announced a list of 15 songs that may figure in the album (with 4 songs possibly replaced in the last minute)
Will ARRs song make it. If it makes will it shoot him to popularity among mainstream listners in the wast. Especially Europe and USA. Will it fecth ARR a new international status and thereby a chance at the Grammy awards
Most important of all does it matter to the Tamil Folks if ARR, or that matter any Indian is succesful outside India, or they dont care at all

There is no way an MJ album can shoot ARR to popularity, as an MJ album would sell purely on MJ's name. Anyway, nobody bothers about the composer in USA. Only the singer is important in american pop, especially if it is MJ.
For your second question, ARR's fans would be highly thrilled if he is successful outside India, but other ppl wouldnt care at all.

why? R Kelly shot into fame bcoz he composed a MJ song. I can name so many people
1) sheryl crow
2) Boys II Men
3) Alanis morissete
4) kris kross
5) Puff daddy
6) 3T
There r so many more examples of people using MJ as a stepping stone. If his song is selected and nominated for grammy I guess it wud be a watershed moment in TFM history.
His name wud be on all cassettes. And as u said . The general public might not recognise him but other songwriters, composers and producers might. especially with sony around u never know what cud happen

It would definitely be a proud moment for me as a Tamil. But, a part of me will wish it had been IR not ARR who achieved this feat:-)
Give me a break, atleast I am honest:-)

I wudnt say IR was short of talent or opportunity... he had both but just that in his collective wisdom he decioded not to use it.
i am not talking abt IR or ARR because both r introverted in my opinon...
but have u ever wondered how much a person wud stand to loose if decide to not force their way into opportunities for fear of being shy and introverted...

Exactly what I wanted to say. One has to use the opertunities.
There is no point in complaining, saying that people have not appriciated his good works, where he himself has not allowed the majority to listen to it. (He is person X here)
To be a successful artist in India, one need to have a foot or both in north. This is a hard and pitiable fact.

I think we Tamilians have this mentality...we really do our work well and expect our employers to recognise it without us dropping hints or hard selling ourselves...I don't blame IR for not marketing himself...his work speaks for itself...he doesn't have to sell himself but the only problem is he is caught up in the wrong time...ARR was lucky in this aspect - right time right place...

ARR is all worth making is own album. He can also make it a hit in world music circles (but sure MJ like pop exposure would be hard). This is like some JEE topper trying hard to get in to a some north dakota university. May be it will help his resume, but nothing more.
He should bring out all the aspects of music he tried so far and should release it as in iternational album.

MJ is a washed up artist. How does it matter if it makes it or not? I am always amused when people mention this MJ thing, or when they say "Steven Seagal loves ARR music!"...Seagal??????!!!! hahahha...

I want ARR to keep in tamil. His popular over in international make me worried about inevitable that he would skip the tamil albums because international committment. Without ARR music in tamil I cannot thing about it. Because the only tamil CDs I love songs are ARR albums.
ARR I wish you with great respect.

KK..if he does this..you will hear a lot of cries about recycling etc

Umm...about MJ I agree..maybe his career is at its fag end....but I can't bear you putting down Steven Seagal...he has at least the guts in Hollywood to stand up to his own convictions (gathered from what I've read and seen)...and his taekwondo action sequences in his films are probably the best around and unmatched in their ferocity...so either u r one of those pseudo-yuppie intellectuals with a fad for the glitter of Hollywood stereotypes with brain numbed by all the drugs the western media has been feeding it...

//"MJ is a washed up artist"//
Living in USA. You might be easily led to believe this. When his album comes out. Watch the week end sales.
He still draws his weight man. Most of his records still remain and so do his fans however dormant they are.
I was talking to a guy who lived all his life in britain and when I curiously popped the MJ question to him. All he told me was this.
"let mike put a show on wembley stadium and moonwalk with the single glove on and the you'll see.."
I think the lack popularity of MJ as an artist is woefully overhyped. Leaving aside his showbiz extravaganza and his music video his music alone with sell. His stage shows and music videos will just take it to another dimension....
Its a time when MJ, Madonna, Sting, Def Leppard, Bon Jovi are twiddling their thumbs and pretenders like britney spears and bakstreet gases are effusing abnoxious fumes. That will change.
I know after the child abuse episode MJ's career is down hill... But I still dont think he is washed up enugh to be compared to steven segal.

//"I think we Tamilians have this mentality...we really do our work well and expect our employers to recognise it without us dropping hints or hard selling ourselves..."//
Loads of it Brother. Loads of it... I agree with u completely. I guess we need to remind this fact to ourselves daily b4 our career goes downhill...
I guess its bcoz if in Tamil Nadu, when one talk abt one's own qualifications.. he is deemed as a "peela". So in order to merge in with the public... one has to force oneself to be "unassuming" and "down to earth", both terms having terribly distorted meaning in our land.
I can recollect so many tamilians in school and college say to other guys... " hey what man! u r such a brilliant guy! you are a MS graduate.. u r a 99 % scorere, u are brainy... but I am only average... I am not as good as u.. I score only 97 % etc....."
this mentality of talking down ourselves so that the other person says that " no..no u r also good" is what wrecks the average tamilian...
We dont live for ourselves and respect the Northies or foriegners evaluation of us more than our own people...

comiscian,
I said aspects, not the same songs.
if you see IR's HTNI or NBW, most of the aspects in those peices can be seen in IR's songs and BGM that came out earlier. Slight resemblence.
Thats what I meant.

pg,
that was a good article that u posted?
I believe, if at all anyone can make a come bak then it is MJ.
For the past 20 years I have been lsitening to a variety of artists.. from boneym, abba, eagles, pink floyd, genesis, aerosmith, GNR, CCR, MJ
its sickening for me to see the direction the current music world is taking... britney spears backstreet gas and N(o)Sync really r producing kids music u see in the disney channel.. hip-hop sux nowadays... i hate it
I wish MJ revives the Western MTV generation to the dizzy heights of the 80's and early 90's..
if kurt cobain didnt kill himself.....
The spice thats more interesting abt invincible is that our own "tamilian" may (repeat only maybe) get an international thrust... imagine if that song is given a grammy then ARR will walk in with MJ and get the award... and wudnt that be a proud moment!!!!

The Grammy would be indeed a proud moment.
The trend these days...correctly analysed by Madonna who completely changed her image and also Sting and others who now team up with regional favourites to make market inroads - another example is Asha Bhosle and Code Red...MJ is working on the same ploy...I won't be surprised if he has teamed up for each song of his album with popular artistes from each continent....increases the sales and marketability..
