  Saravanan... don't u think that top most of any dance song sequence was that competition song sung by P Leela (Pdamini) and Jikki (Vaijayanthimala) from vanji kottai vaalibhan. Md C Ramachandra. It was a master piece in Tamil Films, indeed.

  Yes Subbu, 'Kannum kannum kalandhu', the song you're referring to, is a all time classic.
  
  Another GREAT dance song is Bharathiyar's 'Kannan mana nilayai thangame thangam' set to music by the great G Ramanathan, and sung brilliantly by SJ- film: Deivathin deivam.

  There were not-worthy bharatanatyam song sequence (due bad taste in movements & poses)...
  
  Pazhmudhir cholayile thozhi (PS, MSV, Kuzhandhayum deivamum) - Dance by Geethanjali with terrible poses...:-((
  
  Aenindha mayakkam ennadi radha (PS, Shankar_Ganesh, Jambu) - Dance by Jayamala and Praveena (hopeless exposing)
  
  Azhgan muruganidam aasai vaithen (PS, MSV, PanchavarnakiLi) - Dance by L Vijayalakshmi, who was supposed to be a great dancer but it all in the hands of dance director.. This was also so bad

  I think one important omission is " Abhinaya Sundari aadugiRaaL, en aasai kanalai thoondugiRaaL" from 'Miridhnga Chakravarthy'.
  
  As far as 'Pazhmudhir cholayile thozhi' (PS, MSV, Kuzhandhayum deivamum) is concerned, I think the situation demanded it! A dancer very cleverly trying to enter Jai's life (by filling the vacuum as it were!)when his wife is away with her parents based on some misunderstanding!

  Bharathiar's "Kannan mana nilayai thangamey thangam", has featured in two films, to the best of my knowledge:
  
  1. Ezhai padum paadu- 1950- sung by MLV,MD-SMS. (Ragamaligai in Karahapriya,Ataana and Nattakkurinji.

  Yes Unmai.. there was a dance by Revathy in Punnagai Mannan. The song by VJ and PJ... it was really a master piece of Revathy's dancing talent.
  
  Similary for Bhanupriya.... that "azhagan" film song.. she dances with lot of energy and enthu. It was a great number.
  
  Though Shobana is a born classical dancer, I hardly seen her great dance sequences in Tamil Films.

  Hi subbu watch manichitratazhu directed by Fazil. Shobana won the national award for that movie. There is a nice dance sequence for a tamil song in it.

  Also I remember MGR trying to draw a lion with his feet in one of his songs...(probably madurai veeran i might be wrong).. i forgot the song too.. I think that was the one classical song for which MGR had danced...

  It's not aadaatha manamum uNdo - this is a duet after the pOtti song which MGR is shown as winning . It begins anga vanga kalinga...venRavaL naanE with a lot of jathiswaram. The movie also had kalaiyOdu kalanthathu uNmai (MLV) with Padmini dancing/struggling with Nambiar in his tent.
  
  There are lots more - nadanam aadinaar (P Leela? maNamaalai), anthi mayanguthadi, munnam avanirukkum, and one more for the sivakamiyin sabatham sequence in parthiban kanavu (all by MLV), thaayE yasOdha unthan (MLV, petra manam?), vaa vaa vaLarmathiyE vaa (MLV, vaNangaamudi), kizhavan roopathil (SJ, kuladeivam), ninnaiyE rathiyendru (KJY, kannE kaNmaNiyE?), ambigai dharisanam (PS, sakthi leelai), thalaiyE nee vaNanangaai (Soolamangalam Rajalakshmi, Sundaramoorthy Naayanaar), karaiyEri meen viLayaadum (PS & Soolamangalam R, thirumaal perumai), naathanai kaNdenadi (PS, rajaraja chozhan),....
  
  If you get to the 40s/early 50s nearly every movie had at least one 'item' bharathanaatyam song with great to indifferent dancers (cases in point thooNdir puzhuvinaipOl - kumaari kamala, DKP, vEthaaLa ulagam vs. TR Rajakumari in nattiya kalaiyE kavalaiyai theerpathu, MKT, Sivakavi).
  
  The one that will bring a smile to everyone's face is varuvaai manamOhanaa (MLV, Inspector) - with the dance master instructing the dancer to show some expression, to dance with grace etc in the middle of the song.

  Raveendran.. is the music director i guess.. Shobana acts as a split personality in that movie. In that particular scene Shobana shows voluems of expressions on her face. Great movie.. Great song.. Great dance.. not to be missed..
  They have the slower version of the same song Oru Murai Vandhu Parthaya in the same movie..

  I also agree with you nimisha sorry Jenita oh sorry bb sorry admin... vai kolaridichu... Mayuri is a good dance movie. Jenita were you the one who acted in C.I.D Sakunthala? Never mind.. It is not rare that two persons have "similar taste".. just because they have "similar taste" they are not the same.. i mean you and i are different.
