How to provide a well-matched synchronized percussion loop for a tune and mix them well ?
Answer: Get a good Sampler.

Initially I used to think Srikanth's advises are harsh on beginners...Later I realized they are really sensible and useful...where's the end to aquire good gadgets...if u have money u can buy anything..how much can it be put to use...challenging opportunities - talents are not questionable ( they are assumed )...but we need to try and use the resources that we have to the best and move on to the next - this is logical.
Ofcourse music is a hobby too...so u can spend on ur hobbies even though thet return nothing in money back:-))
I have heard how some of the musicians like srikanth plans on investing in Music...some of his ideas for beginners are really helpful. So srikanth, can u just elaborate on beginner's investment on Music...And then ofcourse Amateurs...then almost pros like u...Keeping in mind that they make vocals, and MIDI mix down.
Precisely ranging the beginner's studio to Professional Studio equipment. Jot down the details whenever u have time.
Regards,
Aditya

Keep visiting this thread. I personally have gained a lot from this thread. People like RJAY, Swamiji ( Krishnamurthy ), Hihi:-)), Naveen, Kiru, Jay and Srikanth - their involvement in making this thread interesting to me was commendable. These days most of them are quiet but there used to be times when in a day there were 10 messages atleast and lot of music every week.

Aditya

Hi guys,
Thanks to you all, I could make some progress using cakewalk. Srikanth, thanks for that info. I had earlier sorted out the mixing of audio and MIDI data where I had to use the "stereo mix" from my windows mixer recording option. I have to change it to 'Line in' when I export the wav file from cakewalk, as you have suggested. It wasn't exactly 'fun' I had with this software. There are minor things like you got to adjust the slider bar every time you export the wav file from cakewalk ! It is a tiresome task of trying it again and again with all the options ! Maybe, as you say this is not the best way to record music. Hope to buy some gadgets as time goes by. Anyway, I am glad that I recorded reasonably good quality music for broadcasting.
No work the past two days and I listened to most of the compositions here. Doesn't sound like any kind of display by "amateur" musicians to me ! Navin, I don't know if you are following this thread, but I am amazed at the virtuosity of your fingers in the piano. Man, you have great style !

Hi Guys:
I need some info on bhajans rendered in folkish style. Precisely the instruments used, the beat patterns used traditionally. If such a thing has been demonstrated in a film music...please give the pointers where i can listen. Any help in this matter is helpful.

Aditya

Hi Guys:
Here's my new score...Country Train Journey. This has used Andolika Raagam for the Melody.
Country Train Journey starts on the Railway Station and so it has some special effects to give the feel of railway station. Music starts with solo violin, and then some group of people supposedly tribes claps that the train has finally started after waiting for hours in the station. Indian Percussion Instruments like dholak and tabla with the claps are used to represent the train rhythmic run on the rails. Folk guitar plays the rhythmic harmony while the Legato Strings plays the folk melody representing the journey into the serene villages. And then the Rhythmic Electric Guitar with the Drums is used to show that the train has passed a station where it's not supposed to stop. The Train passes the station very fast, but in the outskirts of that station...it stops - reason is not known may be somebody pulled chain. Clarinet is used to express this stopping theme climax. A train passes our train. This concludes one cycle of country train journey. I am sure u will enjoy the folk feel of this theme.

Hi Guys
no news from anyone.
Anyway happened to listen to the sound track of the new movie 'The Lord of The Rings' by little known composer called Howard Shore.
Its simply mind blowing.Very dark and mystical composition.

UV San:
where can i listen to that track?
BTW, I love Parthale Paravasam a lot after buying the CD. Sound Design is superb in the home theatre system which is not observed while listening to MP3/RAM versions. It's a most intellectual album by all standards. Man! in the adhisaya thirumanam...the beat cycle variates so much while the vocal harmony is built around...ARR impressed me a lot in this album. Well it might not be impressive from all time listening point of view. But to just see how the industry is moving experimentally - this is a good example. I think this album will set a trend in the Rhythm Programming.
Now the question to the Amateur Composers...do u guys think about the sound design in ur efforts. If so, come up and explain how u implement them or rather u think it should be implemented. Please remember that I am not asking for any trade secrets...i am just asking what are the general principles. Atleast keep this topic going...Well everybody is busy...just take sometime to jot few lines.

I liked two songs - Adhisaya Thirumanam and
Azaghe.. The harmony is great in the first one.
I thought Lovecheck is too experimental to make any sense. What you guys say?

Aditya, I also liked the way the rhythm guitar is used in adhisayam thirumanam song. Some fill-ins and licks sound very much carnatic.

Yes It has some similarities with IR's "Mozart I Love You" from Nothing But Wind - Ofcourse like IRish...Chord Progression, and Rhythm seems to be identical. Good Finding. The flutes and violins are too good.
Thanks for uploading.
Besides this, just a question...do u guys think this is recorded with real instruments or rather played on some synths alone which has high quality samples of these instruments.

what made you think its synth. ?!
Howard rehearsed it with New Zealand National Orchestra
And then the final one strecthing 9hrs of it was done by London Philharmonic Orchestra.
ITs triology so each movie runs for 3hrs.
And he has used lots of ancient celtic
instruments and heavy boys chorus mainly paegan type songs.
check out their site
http://www.lordoftherings.net/index_flat.html
And click on the soundtrak on the bottom of the page you can hear soundtrak and also a video interview where they show howard show conducting his song
After seeing the trailer I really want to tour New Zealand :)

Thanks for the Information. Just for fun, I thought of flattering the Synth Users:-))
Anyway take a look at Orchestral Expansion Boards of Korg Triton...I mean their mp3 demos...Amazingly expressive... I am sure even others synths/sound modules have this expressive samples...
