shashi,
the point is , no one says here that ARR's VM is musically or technically imperfect. it might have been in perfect shruti but did it invoke patriotic feelings is the question. i feel that once again for the umpteenth time we are arguing on something that is purely subjective, like loss of quality in IR's songs, lack of melody in ARR's songs etc. ARR's VM might have invoked patriotism in some, but it did'nt in me.
IMO, ARR's 'thamizha thamizha' from roja invoked better feelings in me when i heard it first while seeing the film. as many people say this VM album seems more like a pop or film album.
the songs does not seem to convey the mood, IMO.

I consider KJY's criticism, as some one said it's his personal opinion. It is a fact that most of us who heard vantematharam in Kappalottiathamizhan would admit what a patriotic song would be. Here is an attempt to present in the midst of a new kind of archestration and that is what ARR is known for. Let us not confuse patriotism and pop. And KJY's comment might be due to their personal problems, if so, why we should give a thought to it ? Music is a pleasure hunt to please our minds. let's hear music...of all kinds !

Sashi: My comment was not in the least bit sarcastic. After reading yourr posting I tried shouting vandE maataram a few times. It felt good. I just wanted otehrs to try it. That's all. I have listened to the VM album only once, and hence wouldn't want to comment on the musical worth of the album.

Ravi:
That you've listened to VM only once says more about your opinion of the album's worth than any of your comments could :-)))) Sorry folks, that's supposed to be a joke !
Essentially there are two focii to this discussion -
1. Is ARR justified in using the phrase Vande Mataram ?
Absolutely ! Time and again every other Indian poet or musician has used it to varying degrees of success. Did it invoke patriotism in me ? Not necessarily. Of course, if a person requires ARR's VM (or anybody else's, for that matter) to invoke patriotism, that speaks poorly of that person's level of consciousness as regards his nationality. The motive behind ARR's VM is undoubtedly money - but you can't blame a man for trying to make a living !
2. Is the album good ?
The answer is purely subjective. IMO - No. in another ARR fan's opinion - Yes.
I think the second question is more closely related to TFM Page than the first one. Perhaps, it might be better if we just assumed that ARR cannot be blamed for using the phrase Vande Mataram in his album and stuck to arguing whether the album was good or not.

Srinath: Now that you have brought it up.. this entire discussion is not appropriate for TFM Page. :-). Aht has a predomiantly Hindi pop album got to do with TFM page. :-). We are stretching the ules a bit to allow some impassind discussions. I would be happy though if such discussion could transfer to the Hub. Wait a while.. we will transfer the Hub to a more reliable locn. Hopefully then people would pay attention to it too.
BTW I haven't listened to kaLioonjal, manam virumbuthE unnai, KPS etc. Does that say anything about my opinion of those albums. vayatherichal kiLappaatheengappa.. intha oorla onnum kidakka maattEnguthu. I managed to listen to VM when I visited a friend once. Thats it. :-). This too to be taken in a lighter vein.

Before you object saying that VM is available in the stores here. I didn't find in the only Media Play shop in the area. :-).
