Who is this Harris Jeyaraj?
Apart from being a keyboard player for ARR, what is his history?
He wasnt in the news until he came up with this album of Minnale, which defly deserves a mention.
Dhina who was in news quite sometime is no more to be found. HJ came in limelight with his first mega release, which my friend in Chennai says has become a hit overnight. Post news links to HJ here.

Vaseegara is the Pick of the Album, wonderfully rendered by Bombay Jayashree. However I liked Athisaya Theeye (though DEVAish copy) mainly because of Harish Ragavendra. What a welcome change from NuniPal Hariharan and feminine Unnikrishnan. Good pronounciation and Melodiously Ganeer Voice(?) makes him the singer to watch out... Second Home Run after 'Nirpathuve ...'.
Surely 'Minnale' is not a great album and one has to see H.Jeyaraj's future albums to judge his talent..

I strongly disagree with Arvind's statement that
Minnale is the top selling album.
The Best selling Album among the new releases is IR's friends(I conformed it with one of my friends
who works in a cassette/CD showroom).Therefore
please don't make false statements to just degrade or rather overrate any MD.Harris may be a talented MD but it is absurd to say that he is
better than IR or ARR.
Also Arvind I think you were a big fan of IR once
just because he was a comercial hit but I never
bothered about that at any time.I have been a true music fan of IR and will continue to be so
forever whether his music is a hit or a failure.

If you don't like Hariharan or Unnikrishnan that's fine. But refrain from giving them disparaging adjectives. If you like a particular singer and you would like to bash others then start a new thread and do it there.

a.a. mentioned that he is into journalism. Me thinks he is preparing for a job in the tabloids :) 'Sensationalism' is the word.
BTW, a.a thanks for your contribution to the forum here. I hope you will take my comments lightly. The news that you have brought here - thAmarai - female lyricist is a good one. How long will guys keep guessing what the women are thinking :)

Vikram_Chandar,
Friends is the top selling album in Chennai now??. IR's album sales was never in the top since 1992 barring a few exceptions like Kathalluku Mariyathai and some more. Going by his recent performance I doubt this very much.

I see nothing offensive at all in Balajis remarks. If you like HH or Unni that is your opinion. But that does not gainsay the fact that Hariharans tamil diction and pronunciation are horrid .... "nuni pull" is the precisely the word to describe it. And Unni's voice, especially at high pitches does sound a little feminine. If you cant take someone pointing something out about your favourite singers, Hmm..... how sad!

Trend_Setter,
I think there is a world of difference between what you said and V.Balaji said.Just compare the two statements:
"feminine Unnikrishnan"
"And Unni's voice, especially at high pitches does sound a little feminine."
Anyday,I can take what you said better than what he said.It is true,he is just expressing his own opinion. But which is more true according to most people's perception is what we should be interested in I guess.

vikram chander,
Friends, top selling album??? Ha ha ha ...kidding??? IR's album, topping chart??? I see no relevance for IR's album and chart topper. Man...come on...When you want to say a lie please say something close to truth. We know what the fact is? Do ya think we'll believe this??? As dorai has said i forgot which one was the last album of IR that topped the chart???. If u have any idea please help me out on this. Also i've never said Harris Jeyaraj is better than ARR...I can say any where, that ARR IS THE BEST and HE IS THE KING OF THAT TRADE. HJ is a new comer and i'm calling him as the prince. O.k??? If u want to talk abt IR's music i'm ready to talk but not after 1992(after ARR's Roja). All his(IR's) albums after 1992 are crap. I don't even remember them to write it down here.

Haris jeyraj has proved something indirectly to the world , can anyone guess!....
Creating arr'ish kind of music is not a big deal!....anymore.
We have to see how HJR does in his next few movies.
I predict that arr will change his style of music to a large extent and get something new out of his hat. After 10 years we have some real challange for ARR. Will he raise to the occasion, Time will tell.
or
i heard few speculations in the industry ---
#1: Arr is walking away from movies concentrating on something different - a big goal so he recommends HJR....to take his place for sometime. Who knows....this can be true.
#2; many complain his songs sounds like arr,
who know after all it might be his....

Folks... for heaven;s sake please dont compare a "PHENOMENON IN INDIAN MUSIC" with people like Harris Jayaraj. I am not trying to deride Harris or his abilities. But please dont give him unprecedented hype before he actually earns a name in the industry.
I did hear the songs of Minnaley. Whenever I heard a song, I was reminded of a corresponding tune by ARR.
My views are : A music director with no individuality even in his 1st movie cannot last long in this whimsical TFM industry. Imagine what would have happened if ARR had tried to emulate IR in Roja. Or what if IR had tried to emulate MSV inn his first movie ? Both dared to be different. And that's why they are succesful.

i feel whatever u said is 100% correct, very good points from ur side when we were heading ahead with IR v/s ARR or ARR v/s HJR kudumipidi sandai. only thiruvaaLar time will tell us whats going to happen to ARR, IR etc. Serious threat will definitely be posed to ARR when HJR hits his next few albums (let the rumour mill be set aside, it may r may not be true, thats out of scope for this point).
Now coming to ur rumour 1, my feeling is that ARR will not all of a sudden leave the cine field. i believe, in india, esp. atleast for indian music related artists, fame will be increased(or atleast maintained) only when they are somewhat attached to the cine field. i dont know how people will accept ARR a year or so soon after he leaves the cinefield and gives out private albums or other "big goals". I feel this is the reason that made even IR to stick with cinefield even though he gradually lost interest in doing music for m&b kind of movies.
about rumour #2, aiyoo its too much. but if it can be considered then i feel this rumour exists may be bcos of HC ARR fans' unshakeable belief could be shattered if HJR turns out to be a successful person beating ARR.
