Rahman's much anticipated "Boys" is set to release soon and everyone is keen on finding out more about this album. Who are the singers? What are the soundtracks like? When is the release date? Will the album be delayed? If anyone has any idea; please post here....
Also; use this thread to discuss this album..
Here is what i found::
Typical of Shankar, the director is not prepared to say much about the film at this point. However, it is known that the film will be very youthful, almost teeny-bop, in content, with the majority of the cast being in the 16-23 age group.
Shankar, apparently, has decided to cast all new faces in his film – and the younger the better.
In fact, a mention in various Tamil periodicals, and an accompanying advertisement to the effect that Shankar was looking for new faces, has created a headache of sorts for the producers. Curriculums vitae have been pouring in to the Surya Movies post box ever since the ad and the story ran in the vernacular press – and last heard from, the flood shows no signs of abating.
Curiously enough, the ad appears – thanks to emails and discussion groups – to have reached an audience abroad as well, with the result that newer batches of applications have US, British and suchlike stamps on them, which suits the producer and director fine since the film does incorporate a lot of NRI faces.
For Shankar, Boys will be a return to romance after Kadhalan, and to comedy after the Aishwarya Rai-Prashanth starrer Jeans. Though the film will feature fresh – and ergo, inexpensive – faces, Shankar maintains that the film will be typical of his style, which means lavish budgets, and expensive production values.

Look at the hit movies so far in this year...Dhool, Saamy, Kaadhal Konden. All are somehow related to violence, sex, one man rowdiness. The only movie sensible for this year is Anbe Sivam. Too bad that such a movie flopped and bombed. It had an excellent performance from Kamal (cannot forget the mannerism he does with his cheeks) and very well said. Shankar has not only disappointed me but also made me furious on him.

"If you want to watch a 'coming of age' movie, watch Summer of '42 starring Jennifer O'Neil and compare against Boys. The movie was released in 1971 !"
Yeah..and Summer of 42 was very well indianized(thamizh) by Balu Mahendra in "azhiyAtha kOlangaL"... not like the likes of TI or Boyz.

Vatsa,
What u trying to say is, to make a hollywood style movie in tamil esp without songs. I like movies to be indianized, so I dont have problem having a song...ofcourse, with proper justice to place it in right position.
I dont totally blame shankar for Boys. But the certificate they got(UA) is wrong. They should have advertised it as (A), so that people wont get shocked in the theatre, like me. I liked parthiban "Ulley Velliyey", but it was adv that it has adult content. So, I was prepared and totally enjoyed it. Ofcourse, that movie also sucked in the second half like Boys. The big mistake what these 2 director made is they changed the movie into serious drama in the second half, which is not necessary. They should taken the whole movie like that(American Pie).
So stop blaming shankar alone, as producer is also responsible for getting UA certificate.

What does a UA certificate mean?

Vatsa,
Though I kind-a agree and disagree at the same time.
Agree: on increasing the Quality of Movies
Disagree: I did want to have Saamy/Dhool kind-a movies, where i dont need to worry about my day-2-day stuff and have some fun time, that is one of the reason Rajni movies became hits, people went to pass-time, have some time off, just dont want to get serious... Saamy did that, the screenplay was gripping and tight. That was one of the reasons when the movies became hits.
Sometimes commercialization is also a good thing to have, whether people like it or not after Rajni's baba, Boyz was one movie that caused lot of enthusiasm, expectations and all that, may be too much of expectation would have been a keen component of "LET DOWN FEELING"
Sometimes somebody has to take the step of boldness to represent what is happening.
I dont know if you saw Paarthiban kanavu, what a small, entertaining and a excellent screen play?
It always becomes one thing, DO MOVIES TAKE FANTASIES OUT OF REALITY OR DO ACTUAL PEOPLE TAKE FANTASIES OUT OF MOVIES AND TRY TO MAKE IT A REALITY (WHICH IS A SERIOUS CAUSE OF CONCERN).
Again others sorry for off-tracking.

Parthiban Kanavu Oh my god that was one of the stupidest movies I have ever seen. The movie take too long to get done with. The message was good in the end but they didn't need that long to tell the story.

Read here TI was released very very late when shankar was about to start boys. And you should know TI was supposed to release before dheena.Due to financial problem it was released late. Anyway after seeing TI why shankar followed selvaragavan. That was really funny. The more funnything is after seeing the movie ARR run away without doing BGM.Hahahah.

Yes I did defend Boys vehemently in the beginning, but that was before I actually saw the movie!
After seeing it I truthfully thought that some scenes were overdone. But still I hold the same view. The content should have been left untouched but the treatment must have been refined.
Enough people have attacked your humanness over you praying Boys to be a flop. I will spare you alone this time. But I know you are already starting your prayers for Mani's next flop film right?haha

Iruvar had one of the best BGM pieces for its theme. The reveiw of the movie by a European film festival magazine emphasized the BGM and called it a haunting addition to a gripping and painstakingly sketched canvas. It was something on thoise lines.
Does anyone have a link to that foriegn review??
The best BGm is the JAzz BGM when Aishwarya falls from the Jeep. And the Terrace meeting between Prakashraj and Mohan Lal.
Agreed no one can beat IR when it comesto BGM. That does not mean every single BGM of ARR is to be condemned!
Boys BGM is something so-so for me. The best BGm I like is the boat BGM in the movie Bombay with 2 veena swaras and soothing keyboard chords. Out of the world!!!!!!!! Very effective

I feel I am answering all the topics discussed here like Iruvar, TI, Kadhal Konden, BGMs etc. Bringing in Iruvar itself was a digression here and since it was brought in I am doing my part to defend my favorite movie.

Vatsa
yes your post makes some sense!
I agree that songs shud be reduced in tamil movies and totally commerical songs like Indhadi Kappakizhange must be thrown out of the window.
I also agree that Iruvar was over-dramatized. But Mani's intention in that movie was to film it prallel to the 60s-70s style with a modern motif and modern technicians. SOngs like Narumugaiye, Poo Kodiyin Punnagai were added just for that reason.
So I feel that it was intentionally dramatised to project some characters in eccentiricity. Would definitely make foriegn audience to be curious as to why this guy always talks passionately when they see Prakashraj act.
Anyway I was so glad to hear that the audience lapped it up so well in a recent film fetival! As for historical accuracy, it is my opinion that Mani had no obligation to maintain any kind of accuracy and lots of things were just figments of his imagination. Otherwise it would have been too documentary-like.
I also agree that movies like Boys are not very healthy to Tamil cinema. However I condemn Boys on its poor story line alone. But other aspects like its technical whizardry are never before seen in Indian films and I am proud to be a tamilian on that front alone.
I agree with you that there should be more realistic movies like Balu Mahendra's Veedu etc instead of this day's monotonous commercial movies like Dhool, Saamy and Boys
