Yes!
1. Songs are likely to vanish from Tamil movies (all movies in general!!)Its already happening in HindiFM!! Long long ago, so long ago, we heard good hindi songs! Now their songs are mere SOS signals ( Save me! Save me!)
2. The role of an MD would be reduced to scoring BGM!!
3. BGM can have a greater impact in a movie than the kind of songs of date!!
4. Songs, today are totally unreal and in fact, misfire at the right moment in a movie!
5. If TFM is threatened by extinction, the killer disease thats is plausibly the reason, is called "Lyrics". Thanks to deteriorating tamil "moli" in general!!
6. It is no more tamil songs!! Its tamilish songs!!
7. The metamorphosis that is taking place can be ably explained.
a) Fifty years ago, songs dominated our movies! Artists were expected to be good singers! Only those with good vocal chords made it to the big screens! E la PUC, MKT!!
b) There used to be more than a dozen songs in a movie.
c) Things changed. Song numbers came down. Singing talent is no more a prerequisite even for a singer!! Now!!
d) Large scale westernization of songs and tunes under the guise of change, is adding fuel to the fire!! ( Thanks to ARR for importing western talents)Konja nalle, Ajith kaadhal noyile kaadhaliyai ninaithu vaadumbodhu, Richard Marx udaya "Right here waiting" paatu varum with Ajith's lips in sync!!
e) Today, where is a tamil song? Suththamaana tamil paatinai kandupidithu koduporukku 1000 potkaasugal parisu!!!
f) Pattukku isaiya? Avasaramaana ulagathile yaruppa nee??
(Varigal yezhudha neramillai endru Merkilirundhu vaari vaari pottu "kolgirom")
g) Thats it! Donkey THenji Wooderumbaa Aacchi!
Tamilum poyachi, Isayum poyachi!!Music vandhaachi!!
(PS:: BGM advantages!!1. Lyrics thevayille! Udit Narayan paada mudiyathu!! Suresh petersku Kalaimaamani awardellam kodukkamudiyathu!Haiya!Jolly Jolly life! )
Come on guys!! Ennatha ezhudhi ennatha panradhunnu paakkalaam!!

Onnum solrathukku illa. Kalakitta po!
Nee(Neenga if you're over 22) tension avarathille artham irikku.
With so much of hi-tech music invading the TFM scene I wonder if they will ever use those good ol' flutes and violins ever. IR pasangallukku Rehmane thevalle.Everybody thought they will succeed IR but they have turned to be perfect ARR clones. Gopal, keep all those IR collections you have safely locked up. Adhu ellam than sothu!

Gopal, I beg to differ. Let me go over your arguments, one by one:
1. Songs are likely to vanish from Tamil movies Impossible! Why? Tamil songs are presently enjoying a good run for its money comparatively to other regional and Hindi FM.
2. The role of an MD would be reduced to scoring BGM!!
Songless movies are not a new trend. TFM will survive. On top of that movies of 80s had only 3 to 4 songs each. Compare that with the present day situation.
3. BGM can have a greater impact in a movie than the kind of songs of date!!
You got to be kidding! We remember thousands of songs - you just have to rekindle a little bit and voila, the whole song erupts in your mind. Except for a few scenes, BGM doesn't have that kind of impact.
4. Songs, today are totally unreal..
Songs haven't been more real than in the present era. Most of today's songs are dream sequences. Why? You and I and our dates do not go around prancing and singing around coconut trees and beaches, in real life!
5. If TFM is threatened by extinction ... "Lyrics".
It is an established fact that lyrics do not play an equal role with music in songs - and this rule applies to songs all over the world.
6. It is no more tamil songs!! Its tamilish songs!!
This is not a new phenomenon either. TFM will survive.
7a) Artists were expected to be good singers!
Technology, my friend, has changed all these. They needed over 100 music instruments to record "Yengey nimmathi". Today?? (You know the answer!)
7b) There used to be more than a dozen songs in a movie.
Today, nobody would have the patience to sit through dozens of songs - cinema is not the only entertainment.
7c) Singing talent is no more a prerequisite even for a singer!! Now!!
Talent is very subjective.
7d) Westernization of songs and tunes
Nothing wrong in keeping up with times. The basic Indian instruments have not been forgotten either. With new technology, even the tabla sounds exotic!!!
7e) Today, where is a tamil song?
Oru suthamana paatukku 1000 potkaasugal parisa kodipeergala? Appedina, naa latchathpathithaan!
7f) Pattukku isaiya?
Writing music also requires creativity.
P/S: Please do not get upset with my counter-points. After all this is a discussion forum isn't it?

However, I agree with you about IR pasangal. I don't think they will inherit TFM anyway.

IMO, Yuvan Shankar Raja is better than Karthik Raja. Give him a little time.

I have to agree with both Gopal and Namooru.
While there has been a massive degradation in
TFM ; ascribed to massive western import ,hope is something that we should not let go off.
If ARR maintains the same level of recycling and
hackneyed standard ,he is sure to be interred soon.
KArthik Raja 's 'enge en kaadhali' in devadhai is a presage to doom. But he is too early to be
judged .
I wish that mottai would continue his reign for
atleast another couple of years. Looks like he might. 'kaaahal rojavae' , 'devadhai',
'raaman abdullah' ,'poonjolai' ,'punnia vadhy' certainly serve as a nice portent.

NOV:
Wish I could learn the art of discussion with you, anne.Got to accept you are very convincing.
To put Gopal's points in a nutshell,TFM is in a bad state right now.AND THAT'S THE TRUTH.Forget his points.Maybe some were hollow but I don't think you're counter arguments using Technology as a shield, carry any more weight.
Once upon a time IR was scoring such wonderful songs that nobody ever really bothered to think about copying.
Vairamuthu,Vaali were writing writing comparatively better lyrics that no one bothered about "Tamilish " lyrics as Gopal puts it.
All MD's used the flutes&violins so effectively that you never had to complain about those Techno-crappish flute, violin sounds that they dish out today.
SPB,SJ,KJY sang memorable numbers in their soulful voices that you never really thought twice about other singers. But now,you hear Karthik Raja singing in that nauseating voice of his,"Enge yen kaadhali".
And I very strongly feel many movies are losing out because they have bad BGM.Of course you should have good songs too.But good BGM is a must if the movie is to have an impact on the audience.Like,I saw "Devadai" recently and I guess one reason I liked the movie was its excellent BG score.
In fact I feel if this newtfmpage had opened ,say 10 yrs back,we wouldn't have had much to talk about except maybe pile up IR's fan mail.
P.S : Annathe,I hope I don't sound too harsh and sorry if I am. Like you said, after all this is only a Discussion Forum :-) So long......

I don't understand how people can judge by themselves that Devadhai was scored by Karthik Raja.
Somewhere in these discussions somebody mentioned that 'Thendral Vandhu..' from Avathaaram was scored by KR and not IR. I don't believe it. One thing - IR does not need KR. I heard quite a bit of KR's tunes in Maanickam, Enakoru magan pirappan etc and found that (IMO) he is no better than Sirpy and the likes. There is no way KR could have scored for Avathaaram.
This should be the worst insult for IR - passing off KR's tunes as his tunes. I know the only instance of that is in Paandiyan.
Guys, give IR a break !

Thambi - Convincing over the Net is easy. Since you have the time to read what someone else said, you can analyse and come up with counter-points. Not so easy in real life. I'm sure you have thought of a wonderful answer to a retort 15 minutes after the retort! That's what I mean.
Thambi I beg to differ on your statement of "if this TFM page had opened, say 10 yrs back, we wouldn't have had much to talk about except maybe pile up IR's fan mail." Ask any of the hard core IR fans and they will tell you dozens of stories of people singing praises of MSV and V-R, and that the deterioration of TFM was being caused by the likes of IR! Strange but true.
BTW, can you go to the page where someone has said that IR, Deva ellam ennaa anaa namaku enna?
To: PG
Do not get upset over people saying that Devadhai & Avathaaram was scored by Karthik Raja. These kind of accusations have happened before. Remember the time when they said that Sindhu Bairavi was actually scored by MSV!.
