no doubt at all..it may not be the best of recent times but considering it's small budget, and lack of stars, it is definitely a wonderful album..atleast it does not have any copied songs as citizen,i liked it very much

Hi Swetha,
What has "lack of stars" in the movie got to do with the quality of music. I can see a small budget can have some influence on the quality of music because the MD may not be ablel to use latest music technology, etc. I rate an album based on whether it is good or bad, period.

Budget should not affect the music by any means.

G. Ragavan,
>>> Budget should not affect the music by any means.
Not Always, Kamalhasan spent lakhs and lakhs for HeyRam 'Symphony-like' BGM, Do you think IR can make such an effort for 'Karisak kaattup Poovee' or 'Aaandaan Adimai' ? It does have an effect sometimes.
Probably this small budget is a restriction for YSR that he has sung two songs himself - No HariHaran, No SPB, No Big starts in the singers list, Enna solReenga ?

budget does have effects..first of all if the budget is low,you can't hire too many musicians..you have to pay them a lot..then ofcourse theatre rental charges, and no big singers..they don't reduce money b'cos it is a low budget film..and it is very tough to market a film with out any stars.audio company will pay less..but yuvan has done a wonderful job with such a small budget..think about deva, karthik raja in dum dum dum who have access to almost anything and still produce dumb music.

Swetha,
I too agree the budget will certainly affect music and the entire technical aspects of a movie. And with this minimum budget, YSR had done a fairly good job, i agree this too. But for that, it's very unfair of saying music in Dum Dum Dum is dumb. It's also fine. Isn't it? And ur comparison of YSR, KR with Deva is really a horrible thing. Deva cant be compared with any of these MDs. He is so unique in his way of music, WHICH IS NOTHING BUT COPYING. He deserved to be unique and beyond comparison in this regard. May be ARR, SAR, Sirpi, Vidyasagar are some to be the fair contestants with him.....

i think YSR is slightly overrated at the moment..TI is no great album !

Very sad to see you categorizing ARR with mediocre directors.....the fact remains that no one can achieve such national and international fame without talent....

i agree with you cosmician ..to equate ARR with SAR etc is surely out of spite and no substantial argument behind that! sure , ARR is not IR..but he has definitely created some good stuff that we have all enjoyed !

YSR can be (to some extent) compared to ARR. Thus, he is (definitely) not overrated IMHO.

hi,
pl. dont accuse Deva for copying...i may be wrong in saying this but the truth is, these copying stuff has increased a lot in TFM only after ARR entered. This is purely my view. He stole(got inspired for ARRfans) beats (thogh from public domain as some people will put it)...deva took a step further to copy the whole song...when people agree to what ARR did, they should be fair enough to accept Deva also.

Hey Ram's budget was mostly done for publicity. The technology and musicians were there even in India. It's just that Indian's have a heavier reliance and regard for exports.

Thulluvadho Elamai was very good effort from Yuvan
Because he has given such a good song in that movie.Theenda Theenda, and Vayadhu vaa vaa great melody now a days nobody can compose songs like this.I think Yuvan music is great,it is close to A.R.Rahman quality.

Re: Hey Ram music budget.. IR already used Hungarian musicians for Guru..Going there for Hey Ram was just a next logical step. If I remember right IR is not happy even with the quality of violins we have in India. He has also told people that there are no technicians to say, repair a real piano etc. And Hungary being in East Europe is the cheapest place where you can record a full-fledged orchestra. Maybe Russia would be another choice. When it comes to instruments ..he even got a Japanese women flown in for the pAndavAs recording for playing the oboe. Bhava in a recent interview mentions how enthusiastically even now IR buys new instruments and learns to play them. It is a pity that not many people have good appreciation for the acoustic sounds of a real instrument !!

I am currently listening to TI in mp3 format. My initial reaction is - fantastic. Its really a great album as far as YSR is conserned.
Theenda theena and vayadhu vaa vaa are really excellent. YSR has come of his childhood. Its a very nicely recorded album. I have just listened it twice. Very few albums have impressed me in the first instance. Actually, I didn't expect it to be this good.
Theenda theena I think is in Reethy goulai raagam (Correct me if I am wrong). It has the shades of Meettadha oru veenai from some IR's film.

Thulluvatho ilamai is a good album. Nice melodies. The folk number neruppu is good too. The instruments are not noisy and all the singers except YSR have performed vey well. Ithu Kathalaa should have been given a soft feel by giving to Unni Menon.

ARR is definitely better than IR. IR concentrates a lot on the beginning of the song and then just lets it meander. This is not my opinion, but my mother's who was a big IR fan. This is very clear in the song "Ennai Thalatta Varuvalo".

ok,
i can come up with the same with arr as well...
thaniyE from rythm has a beautiful start, but
gets bad in the charanam (more like a dialogue)
This is not my opinion, my granny who's a BIG fan of arr.

I agree :-). But its more common in IR's songs. And thaniye thaniye has amazing interludes barring the lyrics. These pieces are 1 in a million.

Here are the charanams, any one try singing in your mind and tell me whats wrong. Any song with such a speed, still retaining its melody is rare stuff.
