I do not know much about hindi songs
Is there any song like "Sippi Irukkuthu Muthum Irukkuthu" by Asha
Only Janaki can do such kind of songs

Have u heard Asha and RDB singing "Meri jaan maine kahaan" from "The Train". U will find it on
http://musicindiaonline.com ->Hindi->artistwise
->asha (See songs with "M")
Its not a superhit but its probably Asha's most difficult cabaret song.

i just the dicussion you guys were having and here is my view I think both Asha and S.janaki sre versatile singers , both have excellent ranges and expression , I would say to compare both of them is ridiculous .

bit curious,
If both are versatile then comparing them is ridiculous. If one is above other then also comparing is useless. Isn't it funny!!!

Yes, s0. There is.
They are both, in music terms, "thin" sopranos. Only at times, on the highest notes, SJ turns anorexic :-))

My choice is no body can compare with S.Janaki(Ammal).Because her variety of songs are extremely different even than Ashaa.As per my knowledge asha not touched in all different age group voices from 2yrs.boy,15yrs.boy and upto 80 yrs. old woman.Janaki not only in Tamil she is performing still Telugu,Malayalam and Kannada.On 2001 may she and the great SPB came to Qatar for performing Indian musical night with UnniMenan and Lakshman sruthi`s archestra.It was realy a superb program.I am writting from Qatar,here we are conducting and seeing lot of programs,but no one were not like Janaki and SPB programs.

I am a die-hard fan of "The Melody Queen", "Swara Samragni", "Swara Sadhaki","Isai Kuile",and "The Queen of Versatality" Smt.S.Janaki. I have been so inspired by her that without her devotional melodies, suprabhatham and bhajans it is not possible for me to start my daily life and I have changed my name from Sathish Chandra to S.Janaki Ram. I love Janakiamma as I love my mother and my motherland.
It is not at all possible to compare The Queen of Versatality with Asha Bhonsle. I just can't of Ashaji singing "KANNA NEE YENGE... VAA VAA NEE YENGE ", "GOVULLU THELLANA GOPAIYA NALLANA".
I think the Central Government should confess our Janakiamma the Padma Award and then the Prestigious Bharath Ratna as she herself is the Greatest Ratna of this Universe.

Janaki:Asha :: Susheela: Lata
Its like this.. Both Janaki & Asha came into the field many many years ago ( in the 50's ) but both of them didnt become very famous till late 70's .. they both were overshadowed by Susheela and Lata !!
One more similarity is the versatility of both these singers..both are known for sensous numbers ( like Janaki for Silk Smitha and Asha for Helen etc.. ) and both can sing excellent melody songs too.. both are good in classical music..
And both these singers have overshadowed their old rivals ( Susheela & Lata ) in the old age !!!
Hats off to these great ladies !

Asha Bhonsle is a singer who can sing anything with equal ease and Janakiji cannot touch songs of Ashaji. Of course both are talented but Janakiji's voice at times becomes besura.
Thank you.

friends ,
Ther is a similarlity with lata ji and janaki ji ..just listen to nenjinale (uyirae ) in both versions ..both will sound the same ..but they er sung by janaki and lata ji in tamil and hindi respectively ..
Both have same type of audience ..-either they will say they are the best otherwise they saw they saw their voices are very heavy ,....

Mubai ramki,
I was just going to give quote 'nenjinile' as the example... you did that already. Lata and janaki do sound similar few times.. I feel Janaki has a great modulation ('pombala SPB'?) in her voice compared to asha. But it is also true that sometimes janaki goes 'creeeech' in high pich..

No. Janakiji voice never been creech. you never find any breathing sound in her voice. I doubt any other singer can replace her place. People now in music field not using her properly now.Still she can sing a laks songs more. You just can't compare any one with Janakiamma. She is the best

p.susheela known as latamangeshkar of south,has an uncomparable heavenly voice.No doubt janakiamma is a great singer,but her position is only after the position of p.susheelamma.great singers and musicians are considering p.susheela as their model.high pitch and low pitch are simple to her.once vetran music director 'salil choudhari'said "lataji and susheelaji are my favourite female singers ,both of them sung many songs under my direction,in the matter of range,involvment,and voice I think susheelaji's position is bit higher than lataji's".salil choudhary's words showing that susheelamma is the nightingale of the south.

Thank you babu,your opinion is an opinion of allmost all the music lovers.p.susheela is the one and only Isaikuyil,ganasaraswathi,sangeetha Devtha,vanampady,ganakokila etc..,there is no justification if anyone trying to show other singers in her position

my dear music lovers please don't be blind with unnecesory passion towards any artists,be practical and try to see things with an open mind .somebody said that he changed his name because of his affection to a great singer,that means he forgot his parents who gave his original name.If that artist knows about this madness ,she will laugh in her mind.
Lata mangeshkar and Asha bhonsle are the queens of play back singers in North India because of their versetality.In south India the crowns come to the heads of P.Susheela and S.Janaki.Lata's voice modulation is similar to Susheela's,and asha's to janaki's.please don't try to balance these great ladies each other.If you have a passion in real music you will never compare these singers each other.

Any serious listener of the all music forms can discern very easilyly that Rafi in men, and LM
in women have been the most talented and recourseful vocalists ever and will be always
