V.Kumar: Malarum NinaivugaL

Saravanan is starting a new series on V.Kumar, titled 'V.Kumar: Malarum NinaivugaL'. He has been in touch with V.Kumar's wife and son and is planning a comprehensive series of articles on V.Kumar. I am sure this will be a treat for VK fans. This will also feature unique introductions to the songs by V.Kumar himself, in his own voice. Thanks to Govind and VK's family for their help on this.

  Excellent set of songs to start of Thursday!
  I rememeber seeing this movie several times on Doordarshan as a kid. I used to empathize with Maadhu and his troubles in trying to come up in life. It was not suprising to hear that V Kumar's
  initial foray into film music also was also an
  etir neechal. But the great thing is that he was able to overcome the initial difficulties and provide us, music lovers, with some ever melodius songs. Thanks Saravanan for taking us on this nostalgic trip. I thank you for this great service

  After spending 2-3 anxious days in the office ,more than once felt like quitting, "Ethirneechal" provided the moments to recoup.(ofcourse listened to Vaa vadhyarE as well again!)
  
  The VK-TMS-KB incident is a lesson on professionalism and work culture.
  
  Vaali's lyrics for "aduthathu" is hilarious."Moondrezhuthu moondru showvum paarthathu" - True!...True!....i had met some who shared Sowcar's traits in 70s.TMS-PS doing a superb job fully doing justice to the on-screen riot!VK has brought the dialect out of "chaste-Tamil" singers!
  
  I was one of the "culprits" who carried the wrong opinon that "thamarai" must have been by MSV.Even written about the mild similairites between "Manicka theril" charanams and this song's charanams.Now the info having been published in this Saravanan-gazette i don't carry the misconception anymore.PBS, despite the heaviness creeping in his voice has done a superb job and PS at her usual 60s's zest.
  
  suprising......after "Vaa vadhiyare"'s phenomenal success,JM had been chosen to sing for Manorma for "Nethu varai".JM has sung effortlessly!Romping in SCK is an intelligent stroke by the MD but for considering Muthuraman is gonna be on-screen, ALR would have been a better choice for the comic song.

  `aduthAthu' used to be a regular `RamaNi guitar' solo instrumental numbers in REC entertainment programs...when he mimicks the `palla odappEn' followed by the siNungal, we used to break into applause...

  Enjoyed reading your material on edhir neechchal. A great movie for Nagesh. An MSV song was forced into the movie... but the song didn't become popular at all. aduththaaththu was the biggest hit of those days... was very frequently used in school annual day stage shows. The song ends with Sowcar J removing all the money from Srikanth's purse and walking away without Srikanth noticing it.

  It is something of a technical issue which I got clarified from Etisalat -THE ONLY I-NET SERVICE PROVIDER.It is a wing of Dubai Telecommunications.
  
  They call it mail-pool or mail-packets.Whenever somone logs on to TFM server Etisalat allotts a packet number which is not a computer identification (IP).In a way IP is for the packet.I am not sure about myself,but Saravanan is not a split personality.))Peter Pan with whom i have established contacts here would get the same ID had he logged on at te same time.We have checked this confusion trying to log from other Emirates like Ras-Al-Khaimah,Fujairah as well but got the same results.

  She was a legend. I have now words to express my grief. I remember her song Thullatha manamum thullum in Kalyana parisu OR orrengum thedinen in Then Nilavu. God bless her soul and she with her ex-husband AM Raja brought a revolution to the Tamil music. I feel very bad when I hear such news. But I am sure she is in heaven with AM Raja and that is a big consolation.

  Time is a relative concept. We all know that when we are at a job we like time flies but school or office time - especially Tuesdays go on and on.
  
  Nagesh has such an effect on me. Even today seeing old Nagesh movies turns the clock back and I end up as a seven-eight year old kid happy in a world of make believe. It is very easy to imagine myself with an arm around Nagesh and call him Dai Nagesh. He was and is a friend! It was a shock to me to see Rajnikanth or rather the character Indran (or was it Chandran?)address him "Dai nagesh" I felt a pang of jealousy as to how rajni could come into our exalted inner circle.
  
  so it was that I always am uneasy about seeing Nagesh in a sad role and angry when I see him in a negative role. neerkumizhi I caught up much later but Ethir neechal i saw when i was six! I cried profusely when i saw nagesh go through so many hardships. I have not forgiven my chitti for taking me to see "thulabaram" where nagesh had a negative role. Nagesh irukka(n)r was
  enough to accompany her to the movie. Thillana mohanambaaL was no better. I resented the fact that sivaji and the old man balaya made nagesh the bad man he was. It was many years later that I really appreciated the nuances of that elimichai pazham carrying Vaithi - and his verbal innuendo with vadivu! even now with a touch of disappointment. I hate Kamal for casting Nagesh as
  the villain in Aboorva sahotharargal. That nagesh gave a good performance is beside the point!
  
  A few years later my uncle took my mother ,my chittis and my cousins to see a shooting of "Krishna Vijayam" which was produced by Venus Pictures my uncle's friend was the producer's son.I did not want to go till they told
  nagesh was also there. I also went planning to ask a hundred questions but I was so shy that I just saw Dharumi from a distance and came back without as much as shaking his hand let alone ask for his autograph!
  
  Saravanan sorry for the digression but your write up on ethir neechal had opened the flood gates of memory and though you know who wouldn't approve
  here they are!
  
  Aduthathu ambujam is one song I can sing from start to finish and my son used to enjoy the "pesinaal enna vaipella oru kootu" bit. But whether this remains the Brahmin dialect pioneer is debatable. surely papanasam sivan
  would have a few songs ( may be for characters that weren't brahmnical "Iva udhinaa avaa varuvva?!?!" and I remember at least one NSK- TAM ( or a sarangapaani) number in brahmin dialect. only you can help me out;-)))
