"Rajasthan":What terrible music by Deva!!

I saw this movie last night on cable. I missed the credits. The songs were atrocious. Since it was a Vijayshanti movie, I thought it was by some Telugu MD. But my friend told me that it was by Deva. Its got to be Deva's worst ever. I want your opinion on this album.

  Dear Friends,
  I am not here to argue that Rajasthan music is good but am saying that though it is far below the expectations, people here may take this thread as a chance to bash IR and say that IR is producing trash recently.
  In fact, Rajasthan was the only movie with below average songs by Maestro in 1999 releases. All other releases by IR had good songs & BGM like:
  
  Nilave Mugam Kaattu
  Time
  Housefull
  Ponnu Veettukkaaran
  Manam Virumbuthe Unnai
  Sedhu
  Kaakkai Chiraginile
  Annan
  Friends (Malayalam)
  Gummi Paattu
  Mugam
  
  So let us not use this thread to bash IR!

  I didn't want to do this comparison but have no option now since people are resorting to personal attacks on IR more than his music. How about ARR's music in Tenali? It was an embarassment even for his hardcore fans. Tenali was only his second movie with Kamal and no excuses like he was busy with his london music work, can explain his pathetic composition in that movie.
  
  Also both the movies kumbakonam govaalu and kavalai padadhe sagothara were released in 1998 and kavalai padadhe sagothara had above average music and not like what Sangeeth has indicated above.

  Anyway I liked the following songs in Rajasthan:
  
  1) Sorgathil Nikkah Nikkah
  2) Jinjillara
  3) The title song (Imayam Thoongum Iravile)
  
  Moreover the bgm was quite good at some places, like the place where Sarath tries to caputre the terrorists at the coastline.
  
  I just feel that the movie was not very well made by Selvamani. He spoiled a good theme that could have been directed better.
  
  Even though this has been repeated many times, it's worth reiterating once more - that the output of a MD *also* depends on the way the situation is conveyed to him (I am not using this as an excuse to say that this was the reason the music was bad).

  You say Kavalaipadaathey Sagothara (KS) and Kumbakonam Gopalu (KG) are trash from IR just because they were ordinary movies at the box office. Look at these songs:
  
  Ponnin Thiruvona - KS
  Enna Jenmam - KG
  Oru Nandhavanakkuyil - KG
  
  These are really good songs and hear them before making a casual comment!

  Vijay, you are right,
  
  'Oru Nandhavanak Kuyil' is an excellent song (Its there in one malayalam IR movie (Kaliyunjal ?) as well - sung by KJY)., Similarly 'Enna jenmam' is a nice song, very opt to the situation. 'Chinna Chinna malarondRu' is another good song from 'Kavalappadaathey Sagothara' (Unni)

  We are listing songs from IR movies that we ourselves consider as below average with respect to IR's calibre! In that list itself, we have these many songs! Will this work out for ARR or Deva? Also I have added a list of hits that IR gave in 1999 and these films are the last in that. In fact these are "Best among the not good". I hope you get my point!

  Shankar Mahadevan's Debut song in tamil is 'NetRu No No' from VIP - MD : RanjitBarot., Sangamam came much much much after that ... infact after the three songs Deepak has mentioned.,
  
  His first song under IR is 'thai Thaka thai' in Telugu Anthapuram., In tamil, his first IR song is 'Sittu parakkuthu'., (As per the order of cassette release date)

  Although sangamam came much later than any other songs.... it was the first one to be shot and then the release was delayed for a very long time coz of rahmans mess-ups!!. But shankar's voice was first "heard" via IRs composition....!!

  The only sub-avg album of ARR is Tenali and that had very good songs except "Injarango" and "Atthini". So, there is no comparison betn ARR and IR.

  Super Police is a telegu movie. So I wouldn't expect anything in it. It's just masala. Pavithra, Pudhiya mannaragal, ratchagan ... had great songs. Infact, UK got his national award for the song from pavitra.

  Where did you think of the logic for the telugu movies not having good songs? IR had so many hits in Telugu (in Masala movies that you have mentioned above). Looks like people go to whatever extent they can to defend ARR.
  
  I had mentioned about this earlier in the forum that ARR fans invariably attribute his music for the success of the movies he works in and everything else for the failures (they will say inspite of his great music, the movie flopped due to poor direction etc).

  Do you think akshai's claim (ARR's only sub-average album is thenali) is true ?
  
  We thought thats not correct and trying to listdown the movies which we feel which are not so great from ARR., What else do you expect, Fall on ARR's feet and say everything he produces is great ? I guess we all have rights to express our opinion here.
  
  Calmdown yaar ! A list of bad/sub-avg movies doesn't mean ARR is bad, I know when we take %age of good albums to total number of albums, He will be the top in TFM.

  seems like most of us are overwhelmed by ARR's success and thus forgetting his BAD outings.... and make no mistake... coz IR has more than his fair share when it comes to such BAD outings too....
