Guys,
I was able to have a tete-de-tete with IR at prasad studios. My cousin plays tabla for him.I sneaked with him to the studio and had a 30 mins talk with IR.The topics ranged from GURU to the current trends.
A mention of GURU really brightnend his eyes and IR told me that they did'nt market it alright.
They spent 25 days for re-recording and it was a herculean task.
I also brought in TFM to his knowledge and he seems to be aware of this forum ,"Kelvi pattuiruken".
I told him about the BGM project and following was his reaction in tamil ."Pannalam.Aanal orginal tracks thedi pedikunum".Nalla project".I also asked opinions with sadanand(music director sudarshan's son) ,who is IR's lead guitarist for 20 years. He liked the idea but was wary of copyright problems.
I just came back from chennai after a 2 month vacation.
The BGM project is really exciting. We have to contact individual production companies for the soundtracks.I gave it a shot with raj kamal but could'nt get hold of Kamal.Somebody will have to do the leg work at chennai .we can really pull it off.

I dont expect frustration+tiredness+demotivation from a person who is talking so much about philosophy of life, ramana maharishi, god athma and all that. The fact is that he has failed to convince us that he is still IN in any of his recent movies. How can you expect HYPE, recognition and all the flowers to fall on your head and the industry to fall at your feet when you are not proving your worth? The industry wants to make money. SO they go around with their hype. To say that ARR is after HYPE is not right IMHO. I dont feel ARR is like that.
Does IR need to seek recognition in such a TOPSY TURVY world , where the undeserving GRASSHOPPERS get all that is not due to them , while the most deserving ANTS go unnoticed ? (quoted from SOMERSET MAUGHAM) If the answer is no then why crib about that?

Hi Guys,
I am coming here for the first time.
I dont know why you people are still comparing the kiddy music directors with Isaignani. Many complain about his ego. Their claim is, if so many big shots (so called) are having problem with IR, then mistake is no IR part. But I dont really agree with it. These big shots were made big mainly because of IR. If you look at the career of IR, he has rendered music to all kinds of directors, actors and producers. But all these people were much selective in their work. Of course it is very much required as they depend on others. But for IR it is different. He created history. If not for IR, how could Karagattakaran and Chinntambi could run for 500 days. Who else could claim the victory for those films. Even Rajni's film doesnt run for 500 days. Today also he is continuing the same thing. He doesnt worry about the world. he carries out his duty. He is a true karma veeran.
If you say that IR is not good these days I dont agree with it totally. They are not much recognized as the taste of the people are not up to the level. If Deva copies from Backstreet Boys and puts it in his film it is in the top list of every countdown. I totally feel that the quality of TFM is degenerating. It is now becoming like hindi music. There is no relation between the situation and the song, and the bgm is nonsense. But Raja maintains his perfection. Look at his work rather then at peoples opinion. Even though they give hits they can nowhere create a masterpiece. Honestly tell me, can any of these Music Directors could ever be able even understand Maestros How to name it?. Could they ever be able to compose a song like Janani?. They cant. Nobody can't. Its voice of his soul. Not his body.

Dear Kamesh,
I am not a frequent person to spell my opinions, but I am forced to after reading your posting. To answer your first question about worthiness, Thanks. I think entire India knows well about IR. So there is nothing for him to prove his worthniess. If you close your eyes and ears that is not anyone else's fault. Have you listened to his recent films like Kakai Chirakinile, Bharani etc., Even before that Veera Thalatu, Poonthottam etc., Tell me a movie where you did not enjoy the songs. Well we need to be bit sensitive to the music. These days all our people have become deaf listening to loud noises and this sort of fine music will not reach your ears. Even if it is, you close your ears. No point in arguing with you guys.
In my opinion why IR is not prefered because he does not butter anyone. He is not a person to surrender to anyone. BR, MR sort of guys may be egoistic. After few movies they got name and fame that they consider MD as their assistants. It is a fault of theirs. And IR in some interviews said he prefer new directors because they have something to prove and IR wishes to help them in getting into the film industry with good score. Is that wrong? And IR does speack aggressively. Most of the time it offends common people like us. May be because he is educated. But whatever he says seem correct to me. He is down to earth and we are sort of possy guys thinking we are above all.
Regarding ARR, brother, I don't know the reason for releasing Vande Matharam and crap album for Indepence day. He makes use of the events commercially. In Vande Madharam album I could listen to only one song. One song was lifted from Kizakku Chemmaiyile. He lost his stuff after scoring music for 20 films..?? Kind of recycling guy. I rate Deva is better. No doubt ARR produced some good songs. But we people tend to remember today not yesterday. If I want to add more, criticism these days seem to be based on caste, religion and region.
Thanks if I am hurting the feeling of anyone.
Regards
STS

kooththan, sabesan, et al,
Why don't you please try to understand pg's perspective. He is as much an IR fan as any of you (see his earlier posts). He is trying to explain IR's downfall(???) or decline partially due to IR's current apathy towards his music for films and, to some extent, a sustained ego/dogma which has strained his relationship with the directors.
"avarukku ego irukkunnu solreengaLEy, ungaLukku illaiyaa" is kuzhaayadi sandai. The topic of discussion is IR, not the people who are talking/discussing about him.
Too many people in this forum are purely interested in getting a 'last word' and 'apparent victory' in an argument. Kind of makes frustrating experience to some posters/surfers.

Sabesan, to quote a recent kumudam-arasu badhilgal sectin comment. The Q was "IR-ARR. jeyichadhu yaaru?". the ans was "Ipo nadapadhu deva-vin Aatchi", which explains the state of affaris in TFM.
The issue of IR's ego and his ladaai with many directors and lyricists is wel known. What PG had mentioned is quite right... IR himself seems to be one of the prime reasons for his state of affairs today!

Dear Tamilians,
I am an occasional visitor to this site. I am also an ardent IR fan. Even though I am all the time looking for new albums from IR and want the songs from those movies to be on the Top 10 list
it really reflects my EGO SATISFACTION than approval of the best quality of current tamil film music available. In other words there are some good songs tuned by MDs such as ARR, DEVA and VS and I think we should acknowledge their good songs.
How many of us have actually met, talked, worked and know IR intimately. Most of us have formed our opinions from second hand sources like the press, TV, and the internet. Even if we speak to IR himself he is only going to justify his position as will be the directors who have so called "DUMPED RAJA".
Let us encourage and enjoy innovative and pleasing tamil film music whoever the MD may be.
Please do not mistake my views as criticism or advice and I very well know that all of us in this forum are intellectuals with lots of pride and knowledge and do not want to be defeated in a debate or an argument.
Thanks to all of you for the high quality of the TFM forum.
Karthi Gopal

ayya nadunilamaiyaaLare!
What I am trying to say is that Raja's ego is not the only reason for his current status in TFM
It's everybody else's ego as well. Enough people have talked about this in this forum already. So, I won't.
Also, another huge reason is, what I feel to be, his apathy towards his work.
A genius does not have to look else where for inspiration. The inspiration should come from within.
It sure did for Raja when he composed gems for crappy movies in the eighties and even early ninties. Remember all the Ramaraajan movies? My point exactly.
But lately, Raja seems to have lost the ability to inspire himself on a consistent basis. You see a spark every now and then - like KC and NMK and MVU. But it is not at the level it used to be.
I think this is the biggest reason for Raja's, I hate to say, fall.
The other reason of course is, that even when he comes out with a gem, it does not get the required publicity or hype.
Now a days, hype and publicity, not qality, seems to be the most essential requirement for an album's success. How else do you explain the success of KD and the lack luster performance of Sangamam?
