what better time than Christmas season to record the Symphony. and releasing in Jan around Pongal augur a good beginning for 2004 and after. My guess is Jan 10 or Jan 14 or so. I've no doubts that this effort will be unique, first of all with chamber orchestra IR gave HTNI and with a handful for Nothin But Wind. 200 members and European instrumentalists are passionate musicians, plus the sounds of bibilical sounds etc.. will be appropriate for Thiruvasagam and Peace. Music is the best tool for peace to the poor, rich and over ambitious alike. Music helps the poor forget poverty,

the rich balanced and the over ambitious to be considerate. That is peace. This music should be available for all people of the world and help open doors to the magic of music and ambundance and generosity of IR and his fans. IR' music in me has opened my mind to not worry about success but how to understand sufferings and the belief that success is about understanding conflicts and striving for harmonious society thru compassion.

Why the hell should I/we make a donation? IR is not in a not well to do situation and besides he is only a professional (a good one maybe) just like you and me.
The more you ask for donation, the stronger I feel that you are begging to make it happen for him and give him a break. Encouraging to buy CDs and shun piracy is one thing. But asking people to buy his music and donate is foolish and indicative of blind following. Please be aware that he is very rich.
I only hope he is not encouraging this begging. Wake up guys. The world dislikes fanatics

kumar ,
You have every reason to not to donate ..but if you cannot understand the reason ,behind this ,please ask the concerned persons and get it clarified .......Donation is not begging ...This symphony is done not just for money ,but for a great reason of carrying Indian music to world level and build a college for music....Please try to respect the cause .

kumar, spoken like a rational human being, this is whom i find the best fan! and not fanatic who blindly say yes while internally questioning the process! either one gives or don't give. giving when in doubt is not being true to oneself and giving when not able is also the same thing. I am with you, totally.
however in this case, i believe the intent is not showing desperation, but gainin wider participation and sharing in the joy of the result and i think IR would like to keep as many people enjoy the process "indirectly" in this fashion rather than have audio companies take over and not do sufficient justice to the process or the result. also, piracy is more or less rooted out in this process. but, does every composer have this power to ask fans help out atleast once? I think it is wise of IR to see the potential of his willing fans. with such a support and in this digital age, why should audio companies be allowed to get all the profits?

Yes, Indeed I do not understand the reason or intent behind your collection. I am moved by the plight of the blind, the retarded and the handicapped in India, who care more for a decent meal rather than globalizing Indian music.
Finding a cause for donation is not difficult in India as I see now. I am angry that you who donate for globalizing music are blind towards the basic needs of thousands. Why dont you just visit one of the blind organizations and ask them whether they like AR Rahman or Illayaraja and who they would like you to donate for? For all I know they care a damn and so do I. I will pay for the music I listen to.
Yes, I have every reason not to donate for music. I would rather feed someone and bring some faith in their lives. But then I am only human.

Well you've spoken out your policy. You have the right not to donate if you're not interested. But think about this. Before, IR has used the Hungarian orchestra for movies like Hey Ram and others, for which, the expenses were quite high and which was pretty much understandable. I read somewhere that it was Kamal, who insisted on that to bring out a high quality, world class music. Such big expenses are generally taken care by the producers, who, on many occasions depend on movie financiers. So, in the event, we see the begging process is involved somewhere. As you know, movies adopt profit oriented strategies and so do the people involved in them.
I was caught in surprise, when I heard about IR going to attempt TiS. How many of us have heard about Thiruvasagam? I remember studing a couple of them during my school days solely due to compulsion and I was not good in that either. Off late, I started to realize the truth and importance but one issue of complexity which always keep me away is reading the poem in a prose format. Not to offend some serious readers but I am sure there are thousands like me. When I read about the announcement in the news, I felt I must support this activity to fulfil my own personal wish. Remember, IR (only) has the mind, capability and means to do this. I do not expect this astonishing effort from a mediocre MD. This effort needs contless dedication, experience and a great mind. IR must be equally bogged down by skepticism that how this is going to appeal the mass and definitely the effort is not driven towards a profit oriented strategy. On the other hand, whether the album hits record sales or not, it is going to be an one time achievement for him. For us, definitely every Tamilian can be proud of this. Understanding the great effort he is making, we can aid him with our contributions however little it is. But as we all know, this is purely based on self feelings and a HCIRF can always remain as a HCIRF even without any contributions with the only difference of Thiruvasagam playing in your stereo almost regularly.

Just yesterday I got a letter from UNICEF asking me for a donation of 25 Canadian dollars to help the children of the world.
Say, a UN organization like UNICEF 'begging' me, a middles class man, for $25?
Surely, they have contacts with the world’s richest governments. Why not ask them?
Just the assets belonging to UN around the world will run into the billions.
Why 'beg' me for $25??
UNICEF is not a ‘not well to do’ organization, to go ‘begging’ for $25 dollars like this. They should do it more ‘professionally’ and approach corporations like Sony and Coca-Cola.
The sad truth about all this, that there are other organizations like United Way and World Vision who do this same kind of ‘begging’ every year.
You know what?! I gave them the $25. Not because I am a blind, fanatical follower of UNICEF. But because I believe in the cause, and wanted to be a part of it, albeit in a very small way.
I also gave to the TiS project. Once again, because I wanted to be a part of it in at least a small way.
I thank Raja and Thamizh Maiyam for allowing me, a middle class man, to be a part of this world class project.

>Yes, I have every reason not to donate for >music.
Yes you do. And I have just as many reasons to donate.
I do not question your motivation. Please don't brand mine as 'fanaticism'.
>I would rather feed someone and bring some faith >in their lives
Did you? Have you? 'would' seems too hypothetical.

This is to Mr.Kumar:
*Agree the fact that feeding the needy is more
important than contributing to thiruvaskam in
symphony.
*You/We are not towards helping the needy at
every sample time point in our lives. Certainly
everyone thinks in his own way, has his own
approximations of life.
*Haven't you spent even Rs:5 for a cinema ticket
or some other non-compulsory expenditure in
your life.
*I like music more than maestro's music. No one
else can't even think about such a massive
project. The oppurtunity comes once in a while
like this. I'm contributing.
*If i could spare Rs:5.00 for thiruvasakam in
symphony, i could also spare Rs:5.00 for the
needy. The former for my personal cause and the
later for civic cause. I wouldn't mix up the
two.
*The project profits do not go to Ilayaraaja's
pocket. It goes towards establishment of Indian
music schools. I'm older to this news than you.
I'm following it for months.
*I dont say we have to belive in what the hindu
acharyas are saying but certainly they always
have better words to say than us. I would like
to bring to your notice the acharyas words for
vasakam project.
*I dont follow any religions but yet i respect
that matured person's words. All hindu madams
support and trust that Ilayaraaja is the one
and only who could accomplish this.
*Atal Bihari vajpayee, whom i consider is a great
Scholar, knows the essense of Vasakam and has
sent his personal wishes.
*Last but not least it's my wish to contribute
and in no way you are going to stop me and it's
your wish to contribute and i'm not going to
stop it. I'm not a Ilayaraaja fanatic.
I have created websites and written articles
for thiruvaskam project. Please get my contact
email id :musicindiaz@yahoo.com
*Do visit:
http://www.geocities.com/thiruvasakam_in_symphony/first_indian_symphony.html
http://www.geocities.com/thiruvasakam_in_symphony/difficulties.html
The approach in these so called articles may create a view that i'm a fanatic but ceratainly not as the next parts of the article are on music minus points(not personal) of ilayaraaja.
I'm sincere for music, i can go into the needy peoples inside to understand them and i'm willing to do both. We cant certainly say this is what i'm supposed to do in my life on earth.

I'm thinking of what i could do for the needy
" in a big manner". Its more important than contributing to thiruvasakam but yet theiruvasakam cant be neglected for its cause behind.
