velji,
Sivaji's approach to movie is totally different from Kamal's. Kamal puts more emphasis (after 10 yrs of his mostly masala movies period) on acting in the serious sense. You need to watch movies like andha naal to know how sivaji can act, provided the director did not insist on over dramatisation. All the movies in those days were mere dramas with strong storyline. I wont accept the statement that Sivaji was the only good actor then. MR Radha .... to me is one of the greatest actors of all time. There were couple of good actors ... nowadays we dont have alot of good actors.

Please don't compare Shivaji with Kamal or any others. Many people claimed he is doing over acting. etc.etc. But he proved his credibility by acting in 300 movies, in almost 280 movies he has done Hero role. Kamal just crossed his half. Vikram is just started. You cannot ask Shivaji to act in Pithamagan and in the same way you cannot ask Kamal or Vikram to act in movies like Veerapandia Kattapomman. Time matters for everything. In Shivaji's time he is able to give Veerapandia Kattapomman and make it is as an incredible hit. Where as, now no actor like Kamal or Vikram cannot do that. People will not accept it.
The success of Shivaji is he was hit in A, B and C centers. Still his movies are released in A,B,C centers. Kamal is now restricted to A only. Vikram is not having any consistant. Shivaji is like the Universe and Kamal and Vikram are small parts in it. If you see PaasaMalar's acting is over acting, then Mahanathi Kamal and Pithamagan Vikram are also overacting. In normal life no man will act like a pithamagan.
SHIVAJI IS GREATEST! UNCOMPARABLE!! GENIOUS!!!

It is a simple fact that Sivaji is a genius in movie acting. Robin is correct that Sivaji is an universe in cinema and Kamal or Vikram or for that matter, any one else is a student. Sivaji's acting is a natural flow;for Kamal or Vikram, it is not so. Experts agree that cinema (art) is a natural phenomenon with some over-natural ingradients. In this respect, Sivaji made a revolution in tamil cinema.
Kamal is yet to prove this point. Vikram has a long way to go

Robin,
Nobody is beyond comparison. Sivaji is great. At the sametime, he overacted in more movies. Thirusoolam was his own production. Who compelled him for overacting. He did that because he thought that was acting.
After Mudal Mariayadai he was telling journalists, I did not act. BM asked me to come and go in the scenes.(which was what is acting) and that was his definition for acting.
Agreed movies like Veera Pandia Kattabomman is cut out for Sivaji. Kamal can't do that. Salangai Oli is cutout for Kamal and Sivaji can't also do that.
So in jist, each has their contributions on some areas where others can't compete. So why one is called god and other is not even recognised in the next.
Agreed Vikram need to go long way to compare with Kamal even(leave alone Sivaji)

I dont think vikram needs a long way to go, i think he is pretty close to be on par with kamal, and kamal passed up sivaji along time ago to me.

In my opinion ( a very personal one),
Kamal, Sivaji and Vikram are all great actors. No Doubt.
However, under world standards I like the subtleness and poignant hints through facial grimness and speechlessness exuded by world-class actors like Mohanlal, Murali(not the tamil actor), Mamooty.
The theatrical ability of thse actors are just right. Not too much emoting and not too stone-faced. If you take Murali's acting as Jothika's dad in Dumm Dumm Dumm you can see what I am saying. Not even in a single scene does he act like Pongi Ezhuvathu in anger.
There is one scene where a man says he is hurt in his head and bleeding. To this Murali says the difference between this man and me is that my injury is inside the body. He says this without any sentimental loud crying (which Kamal I bet would do!). He says it and there is such a cold silence imparted on the viewers which truly brings "just the right effect".
Please do not mistake me. I am not at all undermining the abilities of Sivaji, Kamal, Vikram. I just analysed other world class actors like Mohanlal, Murali in a different light.

I know ppl will start critisizng this too if i say it but oh well im going to.
I feel certain actors like prabhu deva who have talents waste it on useless movies. He is an actor who can emote well too i believe. For example in Penin Manadhai Thotu his little outbursts when he gets mad, such as the scene where he kisses the heroine n she storms off or the last scene when he explains why he couldnt make it to save her sister.
Another example would be Minsara Kanavu, the scene after venilave venilave songs, where he is in bed thinking abt kajol if it is right or wrong and also the scene by the sea. there r many more scenes of his i like but u get the point.

I do agree "Andha Naal" was a memorable movie. In my younger days I saw that movie several times. As a hollywood movie buff that was the only movie without songs comparable to the Holly wood block buster of that times 1950s) "Highway 301"
I have mentioned when Sivaji obeyed the director he brought forth good movies like Parasakthy, Raja rani, Andha Naal etc. But later timnes ...?

velji,
I think sivaji was ruined by the directors of the movie. Sivaji improvises directors ideas with his acting even when the idea is crap. Kamal try to change the idea if it is crap. I wont blame both.

Vikram gave voice for all Abbas films..and also for Prabudeva in Kadhalan and some scenes of Minsarakanavu.
He was there in Kuruthipunal also..Next to Nassar one guy would be there..(who dies in theatre)..Vikram gave voice for that guy.
