Some more trivia :
Dada Mirasi was Sridhar/Gopu s inspiration for the Nagesh Character Chellappa in Kadhalikka Neramillai.DM appraoched Sridhar with suspense thriller stories and his narrative style was
"Pazhadaija Bangala Sssssssssssh"
"Kanja Sarugu ..Sarrak Sarrak Sarrak.."Etc.Gopu (Sadagopan) told this in an interview.Pudhiya Paravai confirms this!!!!!!!
Enge Nimmadhi was picturised in a operah style. You think of Tempest....Arial..
DM also did an MGR movie Can someone recall?
Saravanan
I always thought that the interlude in Vellarikka (Kadhal kottai) reminded me of some song. All these days i was struggling to recollect.Yes,it is "thanjavuru Seemayile" from PKT -(MD -GKV).thanks.

kodipangu ravi,
the houseful episode brings some nostalgic moments. In 1996 I went to see the movie vaazhkkai padagu after the insistence of my father. there is a theatre nearby our house which screens some old movies (60s, 70s and early 80s) one movie a week(Sun to Sat), four movies a month, two different months in a year. The main strategy is no one knows, until Sun morning what film they will be showing this week. I went the theatre and saw the jam packed crowd standing in Queue. The day I went was "indRodu ippadam kadaisi" day. I got the ticket. The show was houseful and to my astonishment it seems all the 7 days most of the shows were running almost houseful.
The next week they screened iLamai oonjalaadugiradhu. U know there was a fighting between rajini and kamal fans and there were 15 ft cut-out in front of theatre for both of them. That film too became a "vasool mannan".
After that Pudhiya Paravai was released and it was also running like vaazhkkai padagu.
The last movie of the sequel was ThiruviLayaadal that film was also a "hit".
I went to all these four movies on saturdays(last day) evening show, for the first time(except thiruviLayaadal), and to my ecstacy each and every song of these 4 films were received with a new hit song welcoming like enthusiasm (like jiginaa paper throwing, high pitched whisling, dancing, clapping etc as applicable to the song).
Even now that memory lingers in my mind. Thanks for bring this out.
Sorry for the digression.
End Digression.

Aalavandhan,
neenga sollura line "iLamaikkaalam aengae aendRu thirumbum ingae" FROM thaaikku oru thaalaattu, music IR. Its a rehash(Ditto) of "unnai ondRu kaettpae" tune. It was pictured on aged sivaji and padmini (they both acted together after very long gap), though the original was pictured on sivaji and saroja devi.

Song of the Day: veeNai pEsum from vaazhvu en pakkam.
http://www.newtfmpage.com/cgi-bin/stream.pl?url=http://www.dhool.com/sotd/veenai.rm
- Thanks to AruLaracan for sending me this song. I heard it for the first time today, and have heard it some 15 times already :-)
- Sung by KJY and B.S.Sasirekha. Saravanan wrote this yesterday:
Again, in Vaazhvu En Pakkam-1976, Lakshmi played a Oomaippenn character, and Muthuraman (again!), playing her understanding husband sings 'Veenai pesum adhai meettum viralgalai kandu, thendral pesum adhu modhum malargalil nindru'. A line in the charanam goes like this: 'Deepam eppothu pesum kanne thondrum Deivathin munne- Deivam sollatha vaarthaigal ellam Deepam sollatho kanne?'-KJY&BSS.
- MD: MSV, though at first guess, I thought it was Vijaybaskar or V.Kumar.
- This was one of KJY's early gems. Check out his other old songs here: http://www.newtfmpage.com/forum/16929.10031.05:52:20.html
- A thread on B.S.Sasirekha - http://www.newtfmpage.com/forum/28922.21.17.43.html
- KJY/BSS also sang Malaichchaaralil iLam poonkuyil and ninnaiyE rathiyendru.

Nostalgic song - very evidently MSV! Very famous charanam tune. Those days of Yesudas songs flying everywhere, this one was one of the very soothing numbers. Thanks, bb! If you can ever get hold of Engum Niraindha another KJY duet from Idhu Eppadi Irukku, that will be nostalgia time.

I guess you are referring to "engum niraindha iyarkaiyil enna sugamO". Isn't that by IR? I don't have that song. yaaraavadhu irundhaa anuppunga.

Brilliant teamwork from the lyricist, MD and singers - each one embellishing the others' contribution. I listen to this often on the radio and tape, yet this one never fails to enchant every time. Thanks bb!

Well- that was fast- bb & AruLaracan- I am amazed that we discussed this song just two days back, and it is SOTD so soon:-))) Thanks is all I can say!
Vaazhvu En Pakkam had Lakshmi donning a dual role. The dumb one suffers from ill-treatment at her in-laws, though husband Muthu loves her. The other Lakshmi, who is an agrressive person, without any handicap, takes her place in the house, pretends that she is the dumb one who has got back her speech, and puts everyone in their place. Finally all is well that ends well.
Another memorable song in the film is 'Thiruppathi malai mel erukindraai' sung by MSV himself.
The song is spellbinding. The opening veenai notes are so caressing. KJY sounds so gentle and BSS's humming is just great.
Naanam oruvagai kalaiyin sugam,
mounam oruvagai mozhiyin padham,
Deepam eppothu pesum kanne thondrum Deivathin munne-
Deivam sollatha vaarthaigal ellam Deepam sollatho kanne?
How tenderly he consoles his wife, assuring her that her handicap does not matter!
Vaarthai illadha sarasam kanne
vaazhvil undaana pinne
thaaimai kondaadu pillaiyum naane-
nenjil thaalaattu kanne
What a song!
bb- KJY-BSS paadalgalil, some more which I just love:
1.Koondhalile megham vandhu- Balanagamma
2.Ilamanathinil ezhum kanavinil- Manjal Nila
3.Endhan padalgalil nee neelambari-Uravai Kaatha Kili
4.Oomai Nenjin Sondham-Manithanin Maruppakkam

Koondhalile by SP Shailaja.I am taking my chances with Saravanan.
The opening of this great song has both Veenai and Piano. There was this doubt raised by Vikatan or Kumudam whether an Oomaipenn could manage this beautiful humming.
Dig on Dual role ...
The double action movies -Aboorav Sahodarargal by MK Radha to Enga veetu Pillai by MGR to Villain by Ajit with a Vani-Rani(Seetha Our Geetha) to Chaalbaaz will continue to entertain the masses e till the real Clone DNA mystery is solved!Someone can think of Ken Follet s Third twin ..to make atamil movie but if T Rajendar lands up on the title role ..
End dig***

Song of the Day: kaaRRinile from Thulabaram.
http://www.newtfmpage.com/cgi-bin/stream.pl?url=http://www.dhool.com/sotd/kaatrinile1.rm
- A great song by G.Devarajan, who has scored a lot of songs in malayalam. Sung by KJY.
- Thulabaram, a tearjerker, had one more good song: poonchittu kannangaL.
- In the film, the song is sung by A.K.Veeraasami :-) He comes as a fisherman.

bb- thanks again! Indeed a great song. Meaningful lyrics (Kannadasan). How movingly he brings out the wretched situation of the heroine:
Anndavanum kovili thoongividum pothu,
yaaridathil kelvi ketppathu?
Ezhaigalin aasaiyum kovil maniosaiyum veruppattaal enna seivathu?
Dharmamey maaruppataal engu selvathu?
Among KJY's early tamizh hits.
Yes, AK Veerasami (of 'Enakkoru unma therinjaaganum fame!)sings it, as AVM Rajan and Saradha are shown walking sadly.
Thulabaram-1969, came originally in Malayalam. I think Saradha won her first Oorvashi Award for this. Other actors were Muthuraman, Kanchana and SN Lakshmi.
Other songs in Thulabharam were:
Poonchittu Kannangal- TMS-PS
Sirippo illai nadippo-TMS
Sangam valarththa tamizh-TMS
Vaadi thozhi-PS-B Vasantha
Union Vaazhga-TMS& chorus
G Devarajan (Govinda Aasaan Devarajan) has given some excellent songs in tamizh as well. Some worth mentioning:
Ayyanaaru neranja vaazhvu kodukkanum-Kaaval Deivam-1969- Tharapuram Sundararajan-PS
Vaanamenum Veedhiyile-Annai Velankanni-1971-KJY-Madhuri
Velli rathangal-Paruvakaalam-1974-Madhuri
Thiruppaarkkadalil-Swami Iyappan-1975-KJY
Harivarasanam-Swami Iyappan-KJY
Sabari malaiyil-Swami Iyappan-TMS
Paadaganai thedikkondu paattu vandhadhu-Antharangam-1975-Madhuri
Gnyaru oli mazhaiyil-Antharangam-Kamal
Kanni Rasi en rasi-Kumara Vijayam-1976-KJY-Madhuri
Maasilla kanniye maadhave un mel, neasamillathavar neesare aavar-Villiyanoor Matha-1983-KJY, Madhuri

Saravanan:
Kanni Rasi en rasi-Kumara Vijayam- was by KJY and P. Susheela (not Madhuri). Of course Madhuri had one more duet witj KJY and a solo too in Kumara vijayam (Kamal and Jaichitra)
One more song under KJY + BSS combo: Ninaiye radhi endru ninaikirenadi...I don't know the film name...
