A.R. Rahman, whose music, a syrupy stew of faintly spiced pop clichés, suggests the equivalent of a Big Mac sprinkled with curry powder.
That is sad comments, beats all the Big C_ap we have thrown at Rahman in this forum.
Hope, Rahman makes it "entire entire original original" in Lord of the Rings, he has potential but lack own inspiration and that is not ok for international projects.

This musical has got heavy heavy support. So, it will pull thru atleast for a year, I am sure. Block bookings from tourists alone will ensure ROI. Basically, Rahman is making lots of money. Hope, he contributes to IR's Symphony.

"I use the term "musical" only in the loose sense that applies when a contrived story and generic-sounding tunes are slapped together as an excuse to haul out glitzy sets, dizzying costumes and stupefying special effects."
It was juz a matter of time.

"We've
purchased 3 copies (1 for each teenager) and have been listening to it ever since; a great recording that captures the enthusiasm and
vibrancy of the show. We highly recommend it to anyone that enjoys musicals.
If you like music that has rhythm and energy, you'll want this album. Highly recommended.
Much of the music is vibrant but with strong melodies. There are also some beautiful ballads.
Borrowing both Indian (ragas) and Western (electronic dance music) elements, Rahman and his co-producer, Marius de Vries (who's worked with Björk), have come up with a delicious musical treat. --Elisabeth Vincentelli

Composer A R Rahman, whose beguiling music is both the show's chief asset and its primary victim, has supplied five new songs. A few others have been eliminated (most notably "Like an Eagle," the hero's big pop anthem from the first act).
>>>
Rahman's alluring music, on the other hand, gives the show some real integrity. The promise of the musical's wordless opening moments, in which soft, shimmering chords gradually build to a stirring climax, is borne out by Rahman's continually enticing score. The composer provides richly rhythmic, jangling tunes for the splashy dance numbers, and can also write honorably in contemporary Western idioms. The hero's soaring solo in the second act, "The Journey Home," is a fine piece of pop balladry. (One does wish, however, that Rahman had resisted the idea of a rap tune for Akaash's star-making moment, a dubious and desperate addition for Broadway.) The layered textures of Rahman's percussion and string writing give the ear something to concentrate on when exasperation sets in at the clunky gracelessness of Don Black's lyrics.

"Whatever else may be said about "Bombay Dreams," it can't be denied that its music follows you home. Take the signature tune, "Shakalaka Baby": Hear that jauntily insinuating song once, and it sticks in your head like bubblegum. It has all the enjoyably compulsive repetitiveness of a pop hit - which it became in Britain, where the musical originated before arriving at the Broadway Theatre in a production that opened last night.
"Shakalaka Baby," just one sample from the catchy score by composer A.R. Rahman, shows up in a full-throttle dance number"
"The irresistible music by Rahman, a Bollywood composer, holds the production together. Couched in the score's spicy Indian flavor, though, Don Black's lyrics are jarringly bland and simplistic; the ballad "Love's Never Easy" has, as its title suggests, not a single interesting thing to say about the course of true love never running smooth. In the middle of the song, though, Rahman provides a lovely, lilting vocal melody that won't let go. The lyrics may be instantly forgettable, but just try getting that tune out of your head. "
See the last line....music for arr fans....

“You have made history, haven’t you?” a fan asked Rahman.
“It is all part of a journey that began in Chennai over a decade ago,” he said. “Each leg of the journey has been mysterious and fulfilling.”

Seems like a mixed response.
Anyways I infer this Musical@broadway is bigger than the one produced in London.
