Bavatharini and Shankar Mahadevan are winning national awards for the songs 'Mayil pola ponnu' and 'Enna solla pogirai'. Anu Malik wins the best MD award. Any comments?

what?!! Bhavatharini for Mayil pola??? what great she had done in that song??? its a simple, beautiful, good tune. Nothing great contribution from the singer. Bombay Jayshree for ninnai charanadaindhae would have been a better deal.
Shankar Mahadevan for yenna solla pogirai? again IMO wrong selection. Nothing great contributed from SM for that song (just a high pitched/ high frequency) song any film singer, that too of SM calibre will phoo-phoo it.
Anu Malik, god please save me im running out of words :-) + :-(

No Kupps...
Refujee songs are very melodious and at last Anu Mallick gets correct recognition...
Pavatharani and Shankar deserve awards correctly if we approve of Unnikrishnan's national award for Ennavale few years back...AHAMED

IMO, Bhava getting a national award is an insult and disgrace to the award! National awards have lost the little weight they carried!!

IMHO, National lost whole weight it carried long ago.

Friends,
Please don't go against Bhavatharini just because she is IR's daughter! You must understand that Bhava was recognised as a good singer only after "Idhu Sangeetha Thirunaalo" from Kaadhalukku Mariyaadhai EVEN BY IR FANS!
IMHO, She has done the song very well - considering the rustic folk situation and the suitabilty of the voice. I don't think it is such an easy song to sing!
Please don't show personal favouritism in encouraging an artiste coming up! At last somehow IR family people get an award without any negative bias they are destined to suffer - please accept it! I am saying this from a neutral position not as an IR fan!

Vijay: You forgot your favorite line inviting everybody to your homepage at the end of the previous post. Are you losing your touch or growing old?:-)
Nobody's going against Bavadharini because she is IR's daughter - She sucks, period. By the way, your name and neutral do not belong in the same sentence (except if it is a typo for neuter):-)

C'mon guys she has got the National award whether she deserves it or not.Let's encourage her to live up to that caliber.

Dey (^!^),
I purposely avoided the link here as I am speaking as a neutral man here not as an IR fan! Don't u have the brains to understand that? I am far younger than u - just 22! Hahaha!
What do u mean by, "By the way, your name and neutral do not belong in the same sentence"! If u want the link so much, here goes:

It is a matter of celebration for me, Just because Bhava is Raaja's vaarisu.
Keep it up, Bhava!

Vijay :
My criticism on Bhavatharini are about her capabilities as a singer, which has nothing to do with her father or others. Shes a bad singer, period, one of the worst ones in our times. And IMO she doesnt even deserve a local kodambakkam award!
Well, I agree that Mayil Pola is a well done song - I stopped listening to it only because of the singer - someone else (esp swaranlatha) would have done a much better job of it.
Vijay, are you 22? sorry, from your posts, i had an impression that were only 12!

Just shows how far/hard the likes of Anu Malik, Raveena Tandon, Anil Kapoor and few others have lobbied for the award! No wonder 3 members of the jury have resigned in protest - happening for the first time in 48 years!

a.a i beg to differ,
i neither liked unni getting award for yennavaLae nor am i liking these two selections.
refugee could be a better album from anu malik but truly, imho, it doesn't deserve the national award. if it is what happens to be the best score this year then i pity at the way INDIAN FILM MUSIC is heading...
btw, is bharathi not upto the mark of refugee? just curious im asking this not just because im a IR fan but also i have heard the music of refugee, bharathi and many other albums and i'm damn sure many of them are ahead of refugee including bharathi.

The hardcopy ed of The Hindu too carries the details of awards & the controversy surrounding it...
...though I never relate the actual competence of an artiste to Natl award, I was feeling happy for one reason - Rajavukku santhoshama irukkum illayA? EdhO namma veettukkuzhandhaikku schoolla award kedachchadhu pOla oru feeling (at which point we never think whether the child really deserves it or whether there were better performers etc):-)
Bharathi (Tamizh), KKS (MY) & pAndavAs (EN) - all these award winning films had IR as MD enbathu another interesting feature...

...and played `mayil pOla' immediately after reading the news, a catchy though simple melody in the lines of `inji iduppazhagA' with similar orchestration...Bhavatharini is OK for this song, esp since the picturisation features a small girl...
...enna sollappOgirAi (KKKK) too is a nice song with the 2nd interlude is especially good. (When played for the first time my 8 yr old son remarked `daddy indha saththam ungaLukkuppidikkumE')

In my view all musical awards this year are CORRECT...considering the variety available...
Refugee for the high pitched classical songs,
again Shanker for his high pitched but PISURU illadha voice song in KKKK
Pavadharini for her school girlish, soft rendering of this song with full of feelings...
and Javed for his poetic lyrics in Panchi Nadhiyaan....I feel music awards this year is far from any political touch.

its good to see one soul finding everything right in the awards.

Guys I too agree that Bhava is a terrible singer, but when basing this award on that one song, you have to give her credit for it. She sounds like a true village girl as she does in most of her tracks. I think she did sing this track well, but giving someone a national award on the basis of one song seems to be a bit of a joke.

Rustic voice of Bhava, My God!, I thought Chithra was going to get it for "Enge enadhu kavidhai" from KKKK. Anu Malik for best MD? This is an insult of IR & his effort for Bharathi. If Refugee had good classical pieces so do many other movies... like Zubeidaa. I don't think we can make that generalization.
All opinions IMHO... no dogfights please...
The awards have be fixed. where is tehelka.com?

congrats bhavathaarini for the award.
but at the same time the best song in "bharathi" is "nirpadhuvae nadapadhuvae" by harish raghavendra.it is a pity that the song has gone unnoticed by the award committee!!!!!
shankar mahadevan is not a bad choice anyway

well guyz
the choice SM and bhava are okay rather than chosing udit narayan or sukhwinder singh or sadhana sargam
who can realy take the language for a big six.any way chithra(for kannaamoochi),harish raghavendra(for nirpadhuvae nadappathuvae) could have been considered.
anu mallik best music director(joke of the year)

the award for bhavadhaarini has come as a consolation bcos IR was not even considerate for he award in spite of the exemplary scores for films like "hey ram" and "bharathi"
the award is a patch up for IR

Bhava's only best song so far is for what she got an award. Her voice was apt for that young girl with rustic backgound. This is what I call a directorial touch (Music directorial touch also). As no child can sing very cutely in real life and so is that girl in Bharathi. And , Bhava did exactly that, she did that little bit of shakes and trebles to give a natural look to that song.
Good luck Bhava. Might be your one and only NA. So, preserve it.
