6 Songs : Mind Blowing!!

Simply mind-blowing
November 20
Ajay Devgan and Vivek Oberoi can’t stop raving about the songs of Mani Ratnam’s Yuva. “A.R. Rahman and Mani Sir and dynamite together,” says Vivek on the sets of Indra Kumar and Ashok Thakeria’s Masti, and adds, “The six songs Rahman has recorded for the film are mind-blowing.”
Ajay Devgan, his co-star in Yuva and Masti, uses the same words to describe them. Incidentally, when the film was launched earlier this year, Mani Ratnam had decided not to have a single song in it.
Vivek also feels that Abhishek Bachchan’s is the best role and best performance in the film. “That guy’s career will take off in a big way after Yuva,” predicts Vivek.

the concert wasnt critized...and so werent his compositions. The critics critized the bad 'conducting' of rahman, which led to the total break apart of one piece....and some other pieces, the conducting wasnt 1st class ( which was accepted by rahman ). and one of the critics wasnt pleased the way some of the pieces ended..as it simply faded out in the end, like film songs. Anyway, since the pieces were adapted from film songs to orchestral versions, it had that problem. the next piece coming our way, CONFERENCE OF THE BIRDS, which is a total orchestral work, will be composed FOR the orchestra. so, arr promises that to be more COMPLEX.
so, its only the conducting part that the critics were unhappy about.

Here is the UK telegraph review:
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/arts/main.jhtml?xml=/arts/2004/03/10/bmivan10.xml&sSheet=/arts/2004/03/10/ixartleft.htmlIvan Hewett reviews A R Rahman at Symphony Hall, Birmingham
On the scale of worldly success, A R Rahman is up there with the biggest. Recordings of his blockbuster Bollywood scores have sold 40 million worldwide, he's the composer of the West End musical Bombay Dreams, and he's about to embark on a musical of The Lord of the Rings.
So it was quite a coup for the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra to have Rahman himself present at this concert of highlights from the composer's Bollywood scores. The audience, close on 100 per cent Asian, was in raptures. When the presenter Sameena Ali-Khan invited questions for the great man from the audience, one breathless youth seized the microphone and shouted: "If music is divine, Rahman is God."
Not being a true believer, I found it hard to perceive the signs of divinity. Rahman clearly hates being put in the public gaze, and gave monosyllabic answers to Ali-Kahn's questions. After much arm-twisting he was persuaded to sing his signature tune, the title song from Dilse, which he did with real expression. His attempts at conducting were much less happy, and one number fell apart completely.
As for the music itself, it seemed to owe much more to '40s Hollywood than anything Indian, still less to youth culture, despite the compere's determination to harp on Rahman's street cred (to his embarrassment, I felt).
His music certainly has an innocent charm, and in its gentle moods have a slightly cloying sweetness, like those pictures of Hindu deities carried by Hare Krishna followers. The other dominant mood is martial valour in wide-open spaces, reminiscent equally of Wagner and Star Wars.
Rahman is also fond of Wild West, jog-trot rhythms, but still with something vaguely Eastern, as if Randolph Scott had donned a turban. In his more recent scores, such as Warriors of Heaven and Earth, the music ventures towards more sophisticated, Ravel-like harmonies.
Rahman is an alert musical magpie, and can summon up a mood in a few deft strokes, but he hadn't given any thought to how the music might work in concert. None of the pieces had a proper ending; they just faded out, as they would in a film. That and the wooden conducting of both Rahman and the second conductor James Shearman gave an amateurish air to the evening.
Thanks to the smiling professionalism of the CBSO, disaster was averted. But it seemed a demeaning way to use the musical talents of one of Britain's finest orchestras.

Listened to Ayudha Ezhuthu samples. If the 20 secs samples are any indication of what the real thing, I am afraid to say, he has offered nothing different from what he did in the last four years. Audio companies were justified in rejecting this album. Unless some miracle happens it is going to be another disaster for Sony and probably will prove to be their last venture with TFM.

this doesnt sound like n e thing has given in the last four years xcept to the bailmore song from kadhal virus. janaganamana is sure to be a hit.
but alright ill think ur way and lets look at the songs okay so if we say the songs sound the same they will still be a hit after all IR songs have sounded the same for as long as ive been alive and they still sold so i still dont get where ur commin from.=P

Choochan,
That is "Aayutha Ezhuththu" actually. But in Tamil it is given as "Aaidha Ezhuththu" which doesn't seem to have any meaning watsoever!
I agree with cn when he sez the success of the album cannot be determined now. But I disagree with his prediction that it is going to be disastrous! :-)
