I think this movie will end up as "Thalabathy" did - too many expectations and then the final product was like a "namathhupona vengaaya vedi gundu "

Guys:
My thoughts are here about Bharathiraja (BR) on pulling together all the best cooks to spoil the broth of Taj Mahal. BR is a very intelligent guy, it seems to me that it is mainly a political-cum-gutsy move. I think he wants to give a good start to his son. If the movie is successful he gets the cake, but if it fails, each of those guys would somewhat feel guilty and probably would try to make a success numbers for BR's son, themselves. Then his son can take off !
Have anyone wondered how BR was able to revolutionize Tamil Cinema ? It is because he is shrewed, creative and intelligent, inspite of from "Giramam". Can anyone imagine the things he had to do to breakthrough (in 70s!) a cine field that was monopolized by MGRs, Shivajis, Balachandars, Sridhars, Shankars (past) ? I am not discrediting others, but I think only and only BR could have (and has) done it. Look at his political moves, while making excellent movies.. Balancing Shivaji, kamal, Rajini, in various makes, yet introducing new faces..Even sticking with ARR and Vairamuthu, inspite of the acrimony between IR and Vairamuthu. Further, involving in MGR's fund raising activities, Uzhaipalihal Sangam, his leadership crack down on Video piracy and so on.. If MGR were alive, I am sure that he would have made an excellet movie precisely suiting his image. Look at Mudhal Mariyathai. Can anyone could have imagined to make such a successful movie, yet realistic and practical about Shivaji's age ? I admire this man so much ! I can't think of any other director whos is genuinely interested in making best out of everyone and every circumstances.
I think he is betting Taj Mahal just right. May be I am wrong, Any thoughts ?

ravi,
interesting thoughts.B raja before launching his son has said (2yrs ago) that it wont b his usual style and it's just a launch pad for his son who has worked as an assistant to manirathnam.
BTW can u please tell me a few films B raja worked as an assistant bfr '16 vayadinile'.thanks

Raju:
Did BR's son really worked as Assistant to Manirahtnam and did BR (publicly) said Taj Mahal is a launching pad for his son ? You may be right, but I was aware of that only now! Thanks for (sort-of) endorsing my views !
I do not know which movies BR worked as assistant. but I am sure he should have, because it was not until 1977 that BR launched himself, while IR started sometime in 1975. Both almost came to Madras together from, I think, Thenee where BR worked as Malaria Inspector.

ravi,
from circa '92/3 BR's son did work for manirathnam. i read an article where BR said it was better for manoj(?) to train under maniR rather than carry a burden and work for father.
as for the launch pad it was aninterview with BR nearly 2 yrs ago in a mag. it probably was 'cinema express' bc we don't get any other mags in london. what happened to bommai and pesum padam?
i am happy to learn abt BR's theni past. it is the 2nd biggest industrial town after sivakasi in T nadu and the fastest growing industrial town of the 90's in india.

Guys, Don't get me wrong, but I don't know why y'all bother to discuss a movie that hasn't yet come out. We have no clue about the subject (at least I don't) and unlike what someone said above, from the title "Taj Mahal" I can't fathom anything (I'm not too creative though).
Accepted that BR has done a lot of good movies and also a few dumb ones (don't ask me to name them), but that doesn't give an inkling about how this one will be. And as to BR having revolutionized Tamil Film industry, I'm not too sure he was the ONLY one - Definitely he had a lot of help. The crackdown on Video Piracy was a nation wide thing at that time and certainly we cannot give BR ALL the credit.
IMHO BR is just another good filmmaker (granted there are not many of them) who has done his bit.
Sorry to give a differing opinion

Dear Mr.Ravi K.S.Ravichandran,/Raju,
your comments/openions about BR are very very appropriate, I also feel the same way that it is BR who really brought the change to tamil films, easily he is one of the best directors of our times and even now, he may have produced few flop movies but still he his far better than Manirathnam in giving movies with a difference,
BR did work as an assistant director under a famous kannada director called Puttanna Kanagal, not many tamil fans know this fact. Puttanna was one of the great directors of kannada films, i am not sure if any of his movies came in Tamil as dubbing or remakes. This is the reason why BR is so familiar about lot of locales in Karnataka, especially along the river Cauvery, and most of his movies were also shot in karnataka till recently, including Nadodi thenral. fact BR still has lot of Puttanna's touches in his movies especilally the picturisations of songs, the famous white dressed angels running behind the hero, heroines as shown by BR in many movies were shown by Puttanna long time ago, if ant body remembers the movie "Sharapanjara" kannada , by Kalpana as a hysterical personality you will see the now BR's touches which were done by Puttanna. I think probably IR and BR were known from that time as IR was working as assistant under GK venkatesh, for quite a few movies. As aptly said by you, who else but BR, could have given a movie with Shivaji in Mudal Mariyadai, except probably, kamal who did prove by making Devar Magan, we hope BR will continue giving more hits like before.

Dear Pinchi Srinivasan:
Thanks for your info that BR worked as assistant to Puttanna. I am so amazed by his breadth of movie making ability, from raw village to thrillers (Sihappu Rojakkal, TiK TiK TiK). He is technically so good. I think he defined how a genuie Tamil movie should be or can be. Before his movies, I got so tired of watching "drama stage" style tamil movies, mostly representing city life, fantacies and truly glamorous fakes (MGR's!). Ofcourse Balachandar is exception. Again I would think he made good movies in the past (Neerkumizhi, Yethirneechal, Bama Vijayam etc)
I was alble to connect to movies only after seeing BR's movies. The character, story, events in movies were relatable to my own experience only in BR's movies. He has a knack to present what he observed in villages, simlply, effectively and directly.

Some info. Actually, BR wanted to work as an assistant to K.Visvanath (cousin of SPB) and even recommended to him by SPB. For some reasons, this did not work out and it was K.Viswanath who introduced him to PutaNNa.

Guys,
BR is the most creative and imaginative director I have ever seen making tamil movies. Give him a simple theem like "Maaman, Machan sandai" for e.g in "Kizhakku Chemaiyele..." he has excelled beyond anyone's imagination in bringing out the scenes without exaggeration and with great dialogues. This guy is undoubtedly the best imaginative director ever. He makes you think on each and every scene he creates for the movie. He also brings out the BEST in any artists. For e.g, Vijaya Kumar was given a beautiful role in "Kizhakku Cheemaiyele" and BR brought the thus far hidden potentials of this great actor. Especially, the dialogues where he explains about the "Annan Thangaichi Uravu" in the Panchayat. He also comes up with great camera work. Most of the shots and camera angles in his movies are selected and preapproved by BR before the camera man shoots them.
He is the best and will be the best for somemore time to come. He is indeed the Michael Jordan of Tamil Cinema
