guys,
I think there are a lot of beautiful gems of IR that has been totally forgotten...
one of those songs which falls in that category is "Arumbum Thalire" from the movie nambirajanin chandralekha....
others include :
viralil suthi meethava - nanthavana theru
un munnai naanum - nanthavana theru
ponmane theduthe (sung by kamal) - movie i dont know..
and lots more... maybe everybody can contribute to refresh and rediscover the lost gems!!!!

Kupps,
Any beat repeated in constant period, does not necessarily mean that it's a good beat. The beat, basically, should match the song. It should fall in the right places only then u can really feel the beauty of it. In this particular song the beat is so unsettling that u don't have a grip over it. u have said u don't know music, (if u don't know music) just close ur eyes and try to follow the song. u'll know the real problem in this song. definitely rAjA enkira yAnai adisaruki vittadhu...i am a good music fan. unlike many other people here in this forum, i cannot like songs just for its MDs. i like a song only when it is good. y people here are trying to over praise one MD and all his works. i am not anyones fan. never, ever...in fact i will feel ashamed to say myself as someone's fan. praise good works. do not force urself to hear the songs just because it's by one MD. i know u guys won't...just some thoughts came out of my mind...absolutely no offense.

Hey guy, who do you think you are ? A better musicien than Raja ??????
Please stop these comments ! You didn't liked azhagi songs, it is your problem ! Just comment on the songs, but to say that Raja don't know how to compose is too much !
I think he doesn't have anything to learn from you !
And about azhagi songs : i listen to them 3 times a day .... not just because of being a fan of raja, but these songs are simply superb !!

Hello pras,
don't get heated up!!! just tear ur mask of rAjA fanatic and think abt what i am saying. to comment on something which is bad, one doesn't necessarily have to do better than that...i am no good compared to rAja. i am not claiming it. my point is different...to criticise that is my right. i have bought that album...it's my money... in fact i am not even getting to that...so please stay clam and think b4 u write something

rAjAva pathi comment pannakoodaadha??? adhula enna kovam unghalukku? did i talk anything abt his personal life??? come man...he is a public figure...i am just criticising his work. i think anyone in the world has right to criticise any public figure. i thought india is a republic country. vutta, aal vechu adichuruveengha pola irukae???
in btw, is there any good forum where people have rights to express their views and talk sensibly??? i badly need it.

vimarsagar: This song is starting deliberately like kaadhal oviyum(alaigal Oyvadhillai). do the bells sound "like" or do the sanskrit slokams sound alike or does the nAdhaswaram sound like the human choral arrangement? enakkuk kAdhu sariyA kEkkala, so please elucidate me. It should fall in the right places only then u can really feel the beauty of it. In this particular song the beat is so unsettling that u don't have a grip over it. care to explain again? enna beats pOTTirukkAr? eppaTi avai sariyAna idaththil utkAra villai? konjam vilAvAriyA kaNakkup pOTTuch chollunga ayyA. Thanks. n-anRi.

I just listened to 'pAttusolli' from Azhagi for the first time. Great song! I do not find any 'beat not falling in the right place'. yAnaikku adi sarukkudhO illayO yArukkO ceylon edukkala.

As far as I know, IR is the only person who strictly follows the tamil isai ilakkanam for setting lyrics to music. The beats are placed exactly placed on 'asai' boundaries (asai, seer, thaAlai). So this opinion of 'beat not falling in right place' is totally misplaced. I did hear the song quite a few times and it seems perfect (whether you like the song is a different issue). BTW, certain people should not bother listening to IR :( they should go buy albums from MDs who take pains to sort through their library of rhythm loops, or take great pain in programming their drum machines ..search the world over for popular beats in various cultures etc.
IR is creating music with real percussion instruments. This surely will sound different to some people ..sorry about that :(
BTW, oliyilE therivadhu is an ingenious new beat..made with a drum kit (+ some other drums ?) but sounds very native .. It is the modern beat for the common man (like me :)) ..I like it. very cool.

Sorry..I was a bit annoyed..I do want everybody to listen to IR's music. There are quite a few IR fans here who can help in understanding his music..if only people were a little bit more receptive and not jump to conclusions !!

kiru: everytime i enter tfmdf, i am reminded of good old kaNNadhAsan song: "un nilamai konjam iRangi vandhAl nizhalum kUda midhikkum". pAvam IR. and because of him pAvam IR-fans too. the amount of abuse (of IR fans) going on in this df is appaling but it's all done in the name of naduvunilaimai. (it's eerily similar to something else happening in the world for the last three months!) anyways, i am digressing...

Coming back to the topic here are a few from the 90s
1. Un perai kettaale ethuvum thonaadhu -Yugendran, Bhava from Poonjolai - good song spoiled by the bad choice of singers
2. Maargazhi maasam - Vietnam Colony -Mano, SL- again a good song, with the IR trademark of a touch of pathos in an otherwise happy song..mainly due to the mood imparted by shivaranjani
3. Kaadhal nilaave poove - UR, Mano - Manikuyil(?) -good song again could have been sung by SPB
4. Poongaatre nee ennai thodalaaama - Bhavatharini -once again overlooked because of Bhava's rendition, a good peppy song
5. Oranjaaram ushaaru - SPB from Kaakai siraginile - overlooked because the MD was IR and because the movie flopped and probably because the lyrics were bad:-) a great song set in Desh
6. Alai Meedhu - Kaadhal kavithai - inexcusable choice of Bhava for this song -overlooked because of the popular "diana diana" in this film..but the violins in the interludes are great and you wish the song was longer in spite of Bhava :-) kind of falls in the "Maalayil yaaro" category
