My friend writes from India as detailed below. I think this could be apropos of the above title: I am reproducing the complete text .
Maestro Ilayaraja is coming out with a new album titled "Jaya Jaya Jayahe" on the 26th January. As the name suggests, the album will focus on National Integration. This music album is being produced by Director K. Rajeshwar (who directed Karthik in "Amaran") and will contain 6 songs. Out of these 6, two songs will be sung by a chorus of 1200 voices !!!!! I came to know about this album through one of my brother's friend, who is a good singer himself. He also indicated that the producer of the album had shortlisted his voice for the chorus song and that they need more such voices. They did not want to advertise since it will evoke too many applications. They are also running out of time. They
are going to schools and colleges to select this "chorus team" of 1200 voices.
You might be wondering as to why I am giving all these particulars all of a sudden. Here follows the most exciting bit. On Sunday, I went for the audition to be part of the chorus team and guess what - all three were selected !!!!!!!!!!!! After my college days (when I was considered a good singer !!), this is the first time, I tried singing in front of a crowd (almost 200 people and 3 judges to evaluate the voice , modulation and synchronization with other voices). I chose to sing "Edho Oru Pattu" (from the movie Unnidathil Ennai Koduthen) primarily because of the fact that that I didn't have to go to higher octaves to render it. After that, they asked me to sing "Ennai Thalatta Varuvalo" with another person who was already shortlisted. I think I did a fairly decent job - considering the fact that I am holding the mike after several years. I did not think that I would be selected. I went there just for the experience. That was great !!!
You know how I would be feeling??I always wanted to witness Ilayaraja when he composes music. I am really thrilled that I am going to sing (scream / shout ????) one of his songs. Some other interesting news about this album are: (1) They claim that it is the first of its kind - 1200 chorus singers rendering a song. They are trying to register it with the Guinness book (2) The album is being produced in three languages - Tamil, Telegu & Hindi . The chorus team will be rendering it in all three languages (3) There will also be a video album for these songs in which the team will participate. (4) the rehearsal and recording will be likely around the first week of January.
To summarize - If everything goes well as planned, My first music album will be under mottai's banner and will be in three languages and might enter the Guinness book !!!!!!! What more can I ask for !

I agree with Srikanth on this one :( Everybody seems to be bitten by the patriotic bug all of a sudden :( I wish I could think of it in more serious terms. But the last person I would expect to use gimmicks like making 1200 people sing for the Guinness Book etc, etc, would be IR. I am disappointed. I hope he compensates it by giving us the music of his life. That would really be something to look forward to. However, it is going to be tough to beat ARR at his own game !

Srikanth: I am really disappointed with your recent responses. You seem to be losing no opportunity to bash IR.
There are much more useful things you can do - there are certain technical questions asked in the "Counterpoint" thread you started. Why don't you answer those? Why don't you contribute ideas to the BGM project? This is some solid work you can do. Instead you come here and bash IR.
For the past few days, there has hardly been any fighting going on here, and I would be very disappointed if it started all over again.

Sorry about that.

I was assuming that "Arr visiri (@ proxy1.dpn.deere.com)" was Srikanth. It seems to tally with his usual hostname.

Guys, Thanks for finding me.
Most here called or branded VM as a gimmick etc etc and leaving out the musical essence in the album,
If you are not really biassed, you guys should say the same thing when some one else also tries the same concept.
Hope this album for IR come out as planned and does not lead to start playing the same symphony hide and seek game.
first let it come out and then we will discuss the quality and quantity.

I have one question in my mind. I read in the AV article, that, the album IR is making now, focusses on the to-be dying age old musical instruments. Well that was the only thing said and no where I could find about National Integration. So why drag and compare Vande Matharam with this.
So lets wait till the album come out, before jumping into premature conclusions, such as trying the same concept, quantity and so called quality ( I pity you Mr. IR.....we "thagara dappas"[only sound....nothing else] have to certify your album).

Srikanth,
U always complaint that people unnessarily drag IR
in ARR discussions. And in this thread ...
Nobody knows fully what the album is about and why
this preconceived notion. Hope u dont call HTNI, NBW, I24H as gimmicks too. I24H was patriotic in nature but how many back home gave a damn about it. Giving patriotic albums is not a trademark of
anyone.

Yes I agree I draged arr, this is my chance to talk about ARR. When most of you here called VM as just marketing gimmick and what not, totally leaving out the music essence, I was waiting for a chance, I got it.
Simply what happend to the so called symphony, we gave Raja full credit without even hearing .0001% of it. When you people crown your idol without even producing nothing, I have every right to argue for my current Idol, who has proved to the world everthing he could. Pray that this new project should not be another Symphony story.
I24H - just collection of Raja scores that use to come in old Echo tapes for time filler. Nothing more.FYI:This has never been heard in India. It not a healthy argument to call people back home are dum etc, any good work will be get its due respect.
Tell me something new guys,

Dont use facts selectively to suit ur convenience. I want to state for the record that I am not trying to idol worship IR. U peacefully ignore Deva as a useless MD and there popularity never plays a role. I am sure every tamilan in TN has listened to Salomiya and other songs of Deva and so by ur argument guess he would be the best MD. When u want to establish IR is gone, you want to use the fact that nobody listens to it in India and so it is crap. Excellent comment about IRs I24H. I did not know about it. Why would people listen to it if it isnt markerted well. People dont listen bcos they dont even know about it. That is where I feel you should play gimmicks. Make poeple know that something exists and then they can accept or reject it after listening to it. Thanks for stating ARR is your idol. I am glad u did. Bcos all these days just could not understand your comments in the disguise of a unbiased music critic. Whatever it is, I cant believe you don't want any of us to talk about an
album which will be released soon. Since when did
all these rules come that we should wait for the album to be released to express our expectations.
I am angry with Raja about symphony but I don't think he would do the same thing with every album of his. I am sure you are going to say this album is junk bcos none of ur friends listen to it in India. Well say what u want and allow us to say what we want. VM music was good but do accept the fact that it was marketed well and everyone knew about it months before it came. Obviously all those things dont count for you I guess. And the tone of your posting suggests that we are desperately trying to prove something to you. Please dont have that kind of an impression. I am not trying to say anything to convince you. Why
would I?

Mr. Srikanth,
Well the so called symphony (in your sarcastic language) was played, to the best of my knowledge, by Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, and not a bunch of junkies (poor IR he did'nt have the marketing stratergy to bring Sony to release his work)
With my humble knowledge in Western Classical, a symphony is no joke. I bet if you can or rather anyone in this forum could write half a page of the 100+ pages of compositions what IR has composed. Its quite obvious you can't, then why do you insult a great achievement (I agree no one has heard the album). But give him the respect man.....he's no Tom, D..K and Harry.
I24H - just collection of Raja scores that use to come in old Echo tapes for time filler
So do u mean to say its not music. Come on man, don't be a blind basher. An arrogant answer from my side would be, ARR would not be able to compose such a music even if gets the compositions.
Enough people, enough, leave IR alone, none of us here have the "arugathai" to talk about a genius like him. I know that I'm sounding harsh, but the postings of some people makes me act like this. Sorry again.....
- From: Srikanth (@ slip-32-101-16-115.il.us.ibm.net) on: Fri Dec 18 22:26:17 EST 1998
Swami : Thanks for understanding Symphony is not easy, to me any music album is not a joke. I have been insisting this here for a long time.
"Arugathai" - is a big word - I have all the arugathai to talk about Raja. He failed to release his Symphony but got all the good name - simply I cant wait anymore.
Agreed ARr would not be able to compose like Raja, that is the main reason he is the toper now. He gave something different from Raja. Thats it.
All the Arr fans out there will have a same feelings of what you have now just because I critized Raja.
I give me respect to Raja than you do. There cannot be another composer like Raja for TFM for centuries to come. This is the fact. But this fact will not or should not hide other good things that are happening around the TFM.
I will stop bashing this great composer as soon as the unwarrented attack stops on other composers by the Raja fans.
If I dont sound harsh - read this few times, I am trying to be little harh.
