This is an attempt to have your views on the diversity of IRs compositions. If we can discuss, in sets of two, contrasting creations of IR, and share with others what appeals to us about those particular tunes, and why we think they are good examples of his melodic flexibility.
The stress should be Separate but Brilliant.
Two sets, and your views.
It will help us all to rediscovers these songs again, and look at them from your "expert" point of view! :-)

I've downloaded the songs from your bc. I might send you another impromptu list, before the day is out.

Could you please post your email address/link here? Or could you please email me at my address above (in the intro). Thanks.
Whenever I listen to the song "Manjal Nilavukku Indru Orey Sugam," there is another song that runs silently, parallel almost, though it has nothing in common with MNIOS, I think. Except PJC.
The song is "Maanjolaikkilithano Maanthano Vepanthoppukkuyilum Neethano"
They are both in different compilations as well and neither have I listend to them in that order. But I still click on this mental link, playing the songs one after the other - all in my head! :-)
Any theories?

Have sent you an email this morning. Don't mention the songs here! (suspense kettudum :-)) And send me the link to your bc thru email. I want to keep the "hush" factor intact. Rest assured, the idea has a lot to do with all your (and others) suggestions!

Naaz, I was able to catch only a few minutes of last week's show. belated thanks. I am disappointed that there is no archive available now.
anyway.. since the songs are in tamil, can't the compering be in tamil too?

I think the program is intended for a non tamil speaking audience as well. So I guess English is better as a medium for compering.

The local tamil audience that tunes is in the 20/21% range :-)
But the presentation in English requirement is pretty much uniform for all the shows (Spanish / Asian (Mandarin/Cantonese/Tagalog/Malay) Arabic language shows are all subject to this.)
Foreign language phrases, when used, are also to be translated as much as possible. It's part of the station's mandate (that whole celebrate diversity - but make it accessible thing.)
I have a hard time switching from English to Tamil rapidly and get all my phonemes in a knot! (And you really don't want that :-))

Does anyone have a quality MP3 file of Allithth Thandha Bhoomi from Nandu?
If so, could you please load-up a briefcase (coolgoose vaendam!)and send me a link at naaz99@yahoo.com
I appreciate your help with this.
(I am loath to admit this - but over a decade, I've never been curious about recording the show...partly the agony of listening to my voice, and partly the pomposity of the act of recording one's own presentation...but I'd love to have a copy too...if somebody does find a way to record it!)

Thanks for sharing the file.
Yes, the audio quality is just so-so, and the composition is dulled considerably. I'll have to settle for a substitute.
Too bad, it is such a lovely song (one of MVDs best, I must add.)

Wonderful compilation again. And, thanks for that (sanitised) reference to newtfmpage! 'Poyittu varen'kku bathila 'Chendru varugiren' solli irukkalam - see, I had to pick a flaw! Back to work; 10.30 start on Mondays not too good, no better start to the week than 'Indraikku enintha aananthame'..

Naaz,
Got up early (U know am in chennai!!) , rushed my self , got into the MTC. THe mad rush of chennai in the morning got to me!!. Young guys defying gravity in the MTC buses and with the over bearing crowd, had me 10 minute late to office(Hi!Hi). THe time 8:45 am (I work at weird times, my time starts at 2:00 pm and go till 11:00 pm), so i am a early bird at the office.
Hurried into the office lift and got to the fourth floor of the complex. Switched on my machines and started the streambox ripper program. I was five songs late.
Heard Ethoninaivugal on the half way! What a song that is. My all time favourite. Listen particularly to the guitar pieces. Terrific. Next was Yamunai Attrile from Dalapathi and the next to my surprise was one of my favourite. Thalayai Kuniyum thamaraye. This song has a great opening. With the nadeswaram, miridangam its such a grand song. THe last but not the least the 2 hours nostalgic trip ended with a dedication to newtfmpage. Very appropriate, naaz played "endraiku yen enda anandame". Naaz hats off to you.
It was a wonderfull program all the way. And as a tribute to Naaz, i have recorded the program. So tfm'ers who have missed the bus, dont worry, you have another chance to get into the bus and are ensured of a wonderfull , nostalgic journey!!!

suresh, raagam, Raj -
Thanks for tuning in! The show was a success (5 local calls and I am in 7th heaven, and tonight there were 7!) and, surprisingly, a good percentage of callers were non-indian!! I had to direct them to the Indian bazaar around here to find tamil/hindi CDs!! (and warned them that they might just find punjabi remixes, which they were to seriously advised not to buy!:-))
It was my tamizh sevai bit of the next few months!
Adhikalai ezhundhu, MTC bus ellam pudichchu, thongi thadumari, podi nadaiya office-ukku odi, eththanai paattu poyiruchcho-nnu liftukku ullara pulambi...Raj - you are the survivor and the die-hard good music supporter! Hat's off to you for braving all of chennai's hurlyburly just to tune in! That's way beyond a compliment!:-)
The "tribute" is to IR, and you guys made it happen. I was just my usual haphazard host (did anyone get the phrase?? Did you even try? :-)
We'll collaborate again, and I am sure the again will come around sooner than you think!
Suresh -
Poyittu Varen'il irrukkum dinasari lavagam Sendru Varugiren-il (Vendru Varugiren - can't think of the first without the second) illaiye :-)
Once again, my sincere thanks to all of you.
