Hey guys..I know that whenever you think of poovizhi vaasalilae, you remember "chinna chinna roja poove", and totally forget the song I'm talking about even existed in the movie. It's "Paattu inge...ra pa pa..." Ring a bell? It's where Sathyaraj took the cute little kid to a bar and these three ladies in red were singing and dancing, and he joins in. But anyways, out of all the great A.R. Rahman (and others) songs I've heard, there's never been one that has touched my heart so much. This song has a tint of sadness through the heavy 70's beat, and malaysia vasudevan's voice is like...butter! It's so lovely..and the lady's (I think p. saiylaja??) voice is so intoxicating I can't even describe it. And this sad/intoxic tone fits in so well with the story. If anyone can ever make a song as good as this one, (which no one but maybe Illayaraja can do) I owe them my soul! No one other than Illayaraja can do 70's disco/getting high/intoxic music- AR Rahman won't even try, cause he knows anyone other than his rival will fail at it.

Bhavna, scary declaration, that means the other 100,000 songs of TFM are not that worth it, so we have to close down the forum. engeyo poyittingiley saar... Pattu inge is a good composition, but not that great for CAPITAL ANNOUNCEMENT. i think you are still in the initial stages of musical voyage like me about a couple of decades to go. keep listening and you will realize that for each and yevry song you won't be start a thread like this. irandalum, this is a good effort! ;--)

Next you start thread with the song "Engengum Kandenamma" from Ulhasa paravigal.Never in the human history a comedy song like this has been composed ...

Hey guys, I just want to remind you that this is a posting of a mere opinion of one person. It is not with the intention of starting a war within the forum. Honestly the replies are ridiculous. Either post about your appreciation or dislike of the song itself, not of each other or the person who started the thread. Yes you may believe that I could have posted this message as a followup instead of starting a new thread; however, I feel that it needs to be a topic by itself with discussion of the song or Illayaraja's compositions. If you feel so strongly that this post is not worth your time, use your head and don't take the time to visit it. Simple as that. Attacking other people because of your opinion about the post is just plain foolish. Whether I have the background in world history or music is completely irrelevant to the topic being discussed. Besides everyone has the right to appreciate music, so what's the use of discriminating against people who have different opinions or backgrounds than you?

Bhavana
No one has the right to question your opinion about a particular song. But when you try to drag X,Y MD wont try it and generously pepper your opinion with "History""Intoxicating" "soul" "no one" etc it ceases to a harmless expression of opinion.Your Intentions, appreciative and decorative statments become questionable and get subjected to analysis.
Forget HCIRF,as an ordinary TFM fan i can list atleast 200 IR classics which are better than the one ordinary song you have stumbled upon accidentally!
If you had expected voices just to echo your invention/discovery then ..sorry!you will be a burden to even HCIRF of this forum.

I agree with u OISG....you cannot take a single word out of a book and say that only this author could use such words in a book.....
Appreciate the music but not in an insane manner.....Each and every music lover will have his own inspirational song which could have been this song to you... that doesnt mean that no one can do such a song........a few songs to mention...
'Chinna thayaval' from thalapathi... the starting violin piece would sound like the cry of a mother..... This song has the tint of sadness which suits to any era of music.... more recently in dilse (or uyire) , u get the same sort of sick feeling somewhere in your throat when u listen to 'yeh ajnabi' or 'poongatrile'.... the point i'm trying to say here is, one song might not be comparable with another one which doesnt make the song the best of all nor does it drive someone to a conclusion that no one can score such a song....
- From: Bhavna (@ 206.28.48.26)
on: Tue Jun 25 17:53:25 EDT 2002
Of course no one can score such a song as the one I have mentioned. If you believe I am appreciating the song too much, well then...good for you, but that is not going to change my opinion about the music director, his songs, or other MD's. I don't know where you guys are getting the impression that I have a fiery, passionate hate for other music directors. Keep in mind that this topic is very specific, restricted to a certain kind of music. I have started this thread in attempt to point out such a song that captures this new feel in music. If you disagree that AR Rahman or other directors cannot produce music that produces this particular feel or emotion, then please list off examples in which other MD's HAVE done similar 70's/80's style music with a sad quality to it. Instead of sitting here trying to persuade me how to appreciate music, use this discussion in a more positive manner and if you feel that I or anyone who likes this kind of music is ignorant or insanely appreciative in any way, then by all means- introduce your own favorite kinds of music to me and others. It is the only way to get your point across. Attacking others' words, and picking out distinct phrases such as "history, intoxicating, and soul" is only going to make your fellow music lover a defensive opponent. And why should we all be opponents to each other? Don't we have something in common? Don't we all love music? I suppose certain people only visit forums to rebuke each other...^_^
