This is a topic about recollecting songs (or parts of songs) which are in the movie but didn't make it to the audio cassette/cd. A few of these songs may have appeared in some rare collection on a cassette. Let's list down these uncommon songs also.
Immediate examples coming to my mind are:
Un thayavillayaa (by Shobana (aka) Devi) - Sindhu Bairavi
Marainthirunthu paarkkum marmam enna - Thillaana mohanaambaal (the stanza starting "navarasamum" doesn't appear in LP or cassette version).

Rajaraam,
Sabash Sariyana Topic.
Numerous songs start with stanzas but have been omitted in records. Likewise many charanams are missing in the records. Let me list down some songs which are in the film, but not available in the records.
1.All the songs from Sithoor Rani Bathmani(MD is GR) did not come out in record. Great loss.
2. All the songs of Kalai Arasi did not come out in record. The MD is KVM, and again a great loss.
3.Kanniley Iruppathenna Kanni Ila Maney-by TMS in Ambigapathy
4.Vanthathu Vasantham Vanthathu Vasantham in Edirparathathu(MD is CN Pandurangan) by AM Raja and Jikki-Super song!
6.Thilli Thurukkar Seitha Vazhakkamadi by Seergazhiyar in Chakravarthi Thirumakal-Barathiyar sing(MD is GR)
A RELEVANT DIGRESSION
1.Editing from the sound track. When records are made ther is the time constraint. A song had to be condensed within 3 minutes in the 78rpm records. So a lot of edition has to take place. This is where chopping takes place. So we are left with the dited version. This is so far as extraction from the sound track is concerned.
2.In another situation, the song is re-sung to improvise. In Uyarntha Manithan we have the song "En Kelikkenna Bathil" where TMS sings Ha..Haha.Haha..Haha.. This haha.. ha.. is in the record, but not in the film, i.e original sound track.
3. When there is indication of opposition songs are changed after picturising has taken place. In the song Nalla Nalla Pillaigalai Namby, MGR's lips
sing move for the line Medayil Muzhangu Thiru VI Kaa Pol, but TMS sings Medayil Muzhangu Arigna Naa Pol. Likewise in the soundtrack of Pava Mannippu, the song Vantha Naal Mudal has "Ethanai Kandan Pananthanai Padaithan" but the record has it as Ethanai Kandan Mathanganalai Padaithan.
4. Sometimes, major portions of the song is re-written. In the film Thaikku Pin Thaaram, Maruthakazi wrote a song called "Manusanai Manusan Sappidaranda Thamby Payaley". In the film Thirunelveli Subramaniya Paalaya(T.S. PALAYA) hits a farmer with his walking stick. Immediately a scene opens and MGR sings Manusanai Manusan Sappidaranda Thamby Payaley, athu Maruvatheppao therruvatheppo Namma Kavalai". The song weas already recorded and picturised. But Sando MM Sinnappa Devar saw Maruthakazi and asked him to rewrite the song with Anna's(CN Annadurai) style. Anna used to address the Thanga Kambikal as Arumai Thamby, Arumai Thozhar, Arumai Chagodarar etc. Devar had a liking for Anna's oration though he himself was not a DMK man. At this time the DMK was at its height of popularity (RE-Digression. After the release of T.P. Thaaram the poster of MGR suppressing the bull was used for the 1956 elections and DMK won that seat. The Congress symbol was Bull)
So Maruthakazi rewrote the song with thogayara and this is what we hear from record. The re-written song goes like this:
Thogayara: Paalum Thenum Perugi Oduthu Parantha Seemaiyiley- Naama Porantha Seemaiyiley, Aana Paadu Padaravan Vaiyiru Kaayithu Paathi Naaalaiyiley,
Varushathil Paathi Naalayiley.O..ooo
ENNADA THAMBY, NERA PODA...HAI..
SONG: Manushanai Manushan Saapidaranda ARUAMAI THAMBY-
Ithu Maruvatheppo Vaduvatheppo EZHAI THAMBY.
(Source of this info-my conversation with Maruthakazi in 1988)
Sorry for the DIGRESSION WITHIN THE DIGRESSION.

ManisEkaran: ungaLukku appuram post seyyavE koochchamaaga irukkirathu. :).
One song from Sembaruththi - Beach-la paadara paattu.
One from KadalOra kavidhaigaL: Das Das. It appeared in later versions of the cassettes.
One from Kaadhal Oviyam: The song that comes in the background when Radha and the hero meet in the temple and 'maalai mathify'. It didn't appear in the casette I bought atleast.

In chinna Gounder Manorama sings a beautiful gramathu song when she appears in the movie for the first time, no music, but only the song. It is so good to hear, but is not there in the cassette or CD. I don't remember the words.

In Mudhal Mariyadhai, in the song 'andha nilavathAn kaiyilE pudichEn', the words 'masathula moonu nAlu' is present in the cassette but was censored in the movie.
In Anbe Vaa, in the song 'pudhiya vAnam pudhiya bhoomi', one of the lines in the cassette is 'udhaya sooriyanin pArvaiyilE' which was changed to 'pudhiya sooriyanin pArvaiyilE'. That was just about the time when MGR split from DMK and formed AIADMK I think.

PG:
MGR split from DMK many years after "Anbey Vaa" was released. The reason for censoring that line of the song was to not show "Political Bias" in cine songs( I think ). Someone with better info can throw some light on this.

ayyA maNisEgaran avargaLE,
dhilli thurukkar seydha vazhakkamadi
is in a movie? wow. Just for that one song subrahmaniam should be
given hundred bhArathi pattams. Thanks for reminding that song.
Also edhanaik kaNdAn paNandhanaip padaiththAn makes more sense than
edhanaik kaNdAn madhandhanaip padaiththAn . Thanks thalaivA.

Manisekaran:
Was edhanaik kaNdAn madhangaLaip paidaiththAn -- which is actually more appropriate to the movie Pava Mannippu -- censored out as being too offensive/sensitive, and replaced later with edhanaik kaNdAn paNamthanaip padaiththAn? In the movie soundtrack, there is a significantly audible difference between these words and the rest of the song.
Also, in the movie ambikApathy, TMS sings satRE sarindha kuzhalE at the tail end of sindhanai sei manamE. Is this on LP/cassette/CD?
To Topic:
The third charaNam from kAdhal kAdhal endRu pEsa kaNNan vandhAnO in uththaravindRi uLLE vA exists in the movie but not in the radio broadcast versions.

IR's classical vignettes from films you won't find on CDs. average duration: 1 min or less...
Please forgive the digresions on rAgAs; can't help it! Of course, I could be wrong on one or more of these ragas, in which case I would like to be corrected.)
1) Two gems from Veera, sung by Mano.
a) "mundhi mundhi vinayagarE" approximately bimpalaas raagam. Incidentally, words by IR himself, used to begin the song "yEttham ayya yEththam" in an earlier film "ninayvE oru sangeetam" (raagam harikamboji, a favourite ragam of IR for folk tunes).
b) "kannai thirandha karunai kaarmegamE" (raagam hamsabhramari, derived from 58th mela hemavathi by omitting ni in the aarohanam) Occurs at a cathartic moment for Rajini in the film.
2) From Kili PEchchu kEtkavaa
"Kalam kandhu vandha karpagamE" sung by IR's inimitable female chorus (rAgam Kapinarayani)
song appears during credits.
3) Many many vignettes in folk tunes from ThenmAngu PAttukkAran sung mostly by Mano, and one by Bhavatharini. Plus an extended BGM which I'll write about separately in the BGM thread.
4) From Mogamull
"Viruppu verruppu" sung by Arunmozhi in rAgam gaowrimanohari. What a beauty! Hardly 30 seconds long...
5) From Idhu Namma Bhumi
"JhankAra dhwani pAduvAr"sung by Chitra in rAgAm rasika ranjani (the same ragam he employed in the song "nadha kuyile"from magudi and "amudhe thamizhe" (film???))
Plus a violin piece that combines elements of rAgas amrithavarshini, hamsadhwani, yaman and dharmavathi with western compositional techniques. (Karthik is supposed to play the violin for an hour; wish they had chopped off an hour of the movie and replaced it with an hour of IR's music!)
If any more come to mind, will post.

Kanchana:
1.The Buddha Films Pava Mannippu depicts unity of Hinduism, Christianity, and Islam. Therefore "Ethanaik Kandan Mathangalaip Padaithan" is the most appropriate line- undoubtedly.(Another tempting digression. The director wanted to show sky and the clouds at the background while Sivaji rode the bicycle. This could not be done with the normal camera work. A new technique was used. A bicycle was tied up on top of a bus. Sivaji rode on the stationary bus. Shooting was done from another smaller vehicle from below. There may be many bicycle songs. But this is still a pioneer in that sense.)
2.The line "Satrey Sarintha Kuzhaley" is not at the end of Sinthanai Sei Manamey. It is at the end of the song that immediately follows, and it is "Vadivelu Mayilum Thunai". This line is available in the record.(Sinthanai Sei Manamey is the first song to show a very close-up of facial expressions and lip movements by any actor who sings in the movie. Only Sivaji can do it. Long ago there was a write up on this. At that time close up was referred to as "Anukka Katchi")
CAUTION
In 1984 EMI released many records under EP as soon as the 78rpm records were no more in circulation. This time the songs were taken from the original sound track, and these songs included the lines and thogayara that had been left out in the 78 rpm records. In Padagotty there is a line before the song Tharaimel Pirkka Vaithan. It was not available in the earlier records. Under the second release it is there. Puthiya Vaanam Puthiya Boomi starts with TMS singing the line slowly, with echo effect. In somebroadcasts, that slow sarting is there, but not in others. Reason- it is a matter of LP or EP. So, some of us may contradict each other, and yet be on the right path, depending on which record we had listened to.
AMAR
It was the film En Kadamai which was a turning point for MGR. Aroung this time the Inland Revenue Department was going after the cinema artistes. MGR panicked and went over to Kamraj birthday and slipped a diamond ring into his finger and said "Kamraj En Thalaivar, Anna EN Vazhikaatti" The DMK thangak Kambikal erupted and boycotted a very excellent entertainer movie-En Kadamai. MGR panicked again and came back to DMK fold. Then he had a duty to perform. He started to praise Anna and DMK in more songs. You could always chec it. Anbey Vaa was one case of Udaya Suriyanin Parvayiley. Of course the song Naan Aanayittal has got two lines removed:
LINE ONE:
FILM- Oru Kadavul Undu
Avan Kolgai Undu- Athai
Eppothum KAathiruppen
RECORD-En Thalaivan Undu(Anna)
Avan Kolgai Undu(DMK)
Athai Eppothum Kaathiruppen
LINE TWO:
FILM- En Kaalam Varum(DMK rule)
En Kadamai Varum-Intha
Koottathin(Congress)Aattathai Ozhippen
RECORD:En Kaalam Varum
En Kadamai Varum-Intha
Kaakkaigal Koottathai Ozhippen.
Vali started the pallavi of the song "As Naan Arasanendraal" but MGR said Mudiatchy poi Kudiatchy has come, so change the first line. That is how we have Naan Aanayittal.(enga Veetu Pillai is the longest run movie of MGR-33 weeks)
CHRONOLOGY OF EVENTS:
1. 8th July,1972-The last time MGR praised DMK rule at a meeting in Thirukkazhukkundram
2. 10th October 1972-MGR was suspended
3.16 October 1972-formation of ADMK with 35,000 ready-made branches.
4.29 September 1973-announcement of the Kolgai of ADMK as ANNAISM
5. 22nd May 1973-First victory of ADMK in a bye-election in THindukkal-candidate is K. Maayathevar.
1977- ADMK rule.
There is a reason for posting these details. The songs of MGR are heavily influenced by politics. They can be divided as
1. Pre-En Kadamai
2.After En Kadamai
3.After Idhaya Veenai.
So Amar, sorry for the long way off.
REQUEST
If we could start a new discussion on political song it will be super interesting, provided we are not divided by political thoughts. At least for the sake of the discussion we should be "Orey Kuttayil Ooriya Mattaikal"
