In the long run, can it be possible to mobilise the best talents among Indian students to form a TFM troupe? If this is possible, then we can have more frequent performances at various Indian associations as they can support these programmes and we don't have to think hard on how to popularise IR's songs especially. If this idea is debatable in this forum why not we ask for talents attending in this forum itself? These talented musicians/singers should be extremely good so they don't have to meet regularly to practice it is also opportunity to display our latent musical skills. After few years, we can get lot of supprt and invite TFM legends to be guests. I am thinking we wont have problems because Indian films in general don't have copyright issues.

Srinath - Of all persons, I least expected you NOT to understand what I had said. I have nothing but praises for your review. :-))
OK, let's get personal. :-))
Inside review - I've never seen a review done by a performer (against someone from the audience). So, I meant that it was a refreshingly new angle.
I am also aware that you have not remarked on your own work, so no self-gratification, ok? :-))
Half as exciting means your review was VERY nice reading. And the concert needn't have to be as good as the writing, to be a roaring success in my eyes. Ippo santhoashamaa? :-))
Mugamoodi? Ayo, neenga ippo coloured glasses pottu kondirukareergalaa? Naan enna sonnaalum thappaa theriyuthei. :-))
Look at the intro thread. Raj has made some inferences there. (Okay, everyone, run to that thread....)

Srinath, what a glorious comeback ;-), what was the ocassion of the programme? How many IR songs were sung? Is Bobby Salil's son? Is this a professional troupe going to be touring the US? aand most of the members are US folks? Please, can you please enlighten on how all this happened, is this the first time for a Tamizh programme with majority non-tamizh folks? If it is so, really vindicates all our dabbling hereabout in the TFM about the glories of TFM. I am very happy to know your efforts. Keep it Going, Srinath.

Guys:
The credit for organizing the entire show goes to rajaG. Please contact him for more info on organizing shows in the U.S as well as details about other members of this orchestra. I would also like to thank him personally for giving me an opportunity to play alongside some real class acts (specially rajaG himself !). I'm glad you guys enjoy the report (let's call it a report, henceforth :-)). There's some more left - including some wholesome praise from Anuradha for the orchestra and its members.

Srinath,
Thanks for the compliments and a nice review. One small correction. Sanjeev and Sachin are Marathi (Mom) and Palakkaadu Thamizh (Dad) combo.
bb,
I have a CD titled Himalayan Dreams in which I have sung the male lead. Unfortunately, I am not techno savvy, so if somebody is interested to load it onto the net, I can send a copy (Hint! Hint!).
eden,
Guitar Ramani from RECT thaan!! He is very good, and yes he was complimented and honored by the maestro himself.
Raja Fan,
No. Bobby (Chatterjee) is not Salil (Chowdhury)'s son. Are we professional? Well yes and no. We do not do this full time and all of us have regular corporate America (OB adikkira) jobs. But we do charge a reasonable rate both to keep the motivation alive, as well as to retain the respect from the audience/organizers towards the artists. This particular concert was part of the annual thamizhar convention during the July 4th weekend. Next year it will be held at Tampa.
Regarding IR songs, I want to do a separate concert on "only IR songs" at a Central location (maybe Chicago). Ideas/suggestions are most welcome either here or to my e-mail. I know a lot of very good musicians will volunteer their time and effort (maybe even free).

srinath,
I never knew that all this people involved in this. I had a plan to come there for the convention, and I could not. Now after seeing your review, oh god, i missed something good.
I know ramani, i met him couple of times in the annual parties of his company. Most of them, i know, have very high regards for his talent.
Hope that show will come again to NJ in future.

Hi Guys
This is Ramani who had the great privilege to play with great artistes like Raja (Jee), Sanjeev Ramabhadran and Anuradha Sriram on July 4th at Atlantic City, NJ for TNF/FETNA.
For your info, I am the same Ramani who used to play guitar at REC Trichy back in early 80s and won many prizes in Light Music including some great recognition from the Maestro IR. I have been playing with many artistes for the last nearly 24 years..I should say that the orchestra that Raja Jee(Kansas) put together for the July 4th show was one of the best I have played with..as our rhythm guitarist (Srinath) wrote in his review about the programme, this was probably the best performance with the least practice (since every one was quite professional on their instrument as well as vocal). Infact, not many people like to play rhythm guitars now-a-days but both Ravi and Srinath turned out to be excellent rhythm guitarists I have come across, quite dedicated and knowledgeable, (would like to do more programs with them)..
Hi all, it is really a great honor to play with such great artistes for such a good crowd and get a good review/response. Infact last week end at Washington DC, I played with Malayasia Vasudevan's son Yugendran and young composer Devan (both of whom have done great work on their own as well as with IR and ARR). One of their honest opinion was that whenever they come to US to do GIGs they do not need to bring any instrumentalists and good supporting vocalists from India, since we have excellent professionals here in US itself. That to me is a great compliment for all of us. I am also performing with Smt. P. Susheela next week in BW temple, NJ and I am sure she will have similar compliments for all local artistes.
Guys...let's keep up the good work !
Ramani

Friends, after reading the postings for the last couple of days, I have only one thing to say "Perplexed" -
Srinath : Welcome back - back with a Bang !!
Raja G : when can we DFers have a chance to listen to your voice with Mr.Ramani , Srinath and Ravi on the guitars ?
I have an idea / suggestion - how about inviting IR to the US for a special concert where RajaG would sing songs specially tuned in by the Maestro, lyrics penned by Udhaya, with Mr.Ramani , Srinath and Ravi palying the guitars, and the rest of RajaG's troupe joining in?
If IR can be persuaded this way, then it would be an easier way to popularise IR's music in the US.
