Since ARR has joined TFM,we have seen a slow decrease in the quality if TFM. ARR introduced digital music which merely required good practical skills in programmimg and sound engineering. Now we see new MD's sprouting up all over the place and these people have very limited musical talent.
Just recently I read that for the movie "Hey Nee Romba Azhaga irruke" 5 new MD's have been signed. I feel that the talent in TFM is just becoming more and more diluted due to ARR's influence. What do you think about this?

Yes, only IR and his OFFSPRING can save TFM.
Don't we all know that already...(yawn)...anything new?

Load of c**p! Why do people try to copy ARR's music? BECAUSE IT IS GOOD. If Ilayaraja came out with another 'Ilya Nila', they will try to copy that and still produce nonsense. And what do you mean 'merely requiring...sound engineering'? have you ever listened to Rahman's music? I think not.
Listen to Vellai Pookkal from Kannathil Muthamittal. There is not a chance in a million that Ilayaraja or anyone else produce a song like that now.

i guess the world has enough people to keep arr bashing or ir bashing or arr-ir comparisons and other such analyses going on forever. one group gets fed up, there are always more people left to continue.

Since the beginning to the new millenium (actually a little before) we have seen a slow decrease in the quality if newtfmpage forum. X persons brought in meaningless debates(?!) and threads which brought about the loss of some interesting forum users. Now we see more meaningless threads sprouting up all over the place and these people have become very tiring.
Just now, I logged into this site and found this thread "Has ARR started the downfall of TFM" the N^th thread started on the topic. I feel that the topics in newtfmpage forum are just becoming more and more diluted due to X influences. What do you think about this?

Guys don't mistake me,I to am a great admirer of ARR and I feel he himself has done a great deal to TFM,but I find that he has created a pathway for many more new people to enter TFM without having a solid music background as he has!

Is it a sign of "Downfall of TFM"? OfCourseNot Remember a movie Auto Raja? IR, SG, MSV, KVM, GKV (i guess these 5 MDs are right) were doing music in that film. That time IR was marching towards the peak and almost every film that time had Gem songs by the then MDs.

I'm sorry, but i totally disagree with this threads topic. Admittedly, i'm an ARR fan, but i'm not just stuck to his music. i love listenin to IR, and YSR, and all music directors, as long as the quality of good music is there. ARR, has lead som many pathways in tfm, and not just tfm. he has broadened his horizons to be acknowledged by great western artists like Andrew Lloyd Webber, and Michael Jackson. many up coming asian artists- like Talvin Singh- credit and admire ARR's influence into ground breaking music. its easy to just say 'its all digital, and not much musical talent'. but that is so far from the truth, its not even funny. ARR wouldn't bee recognised if it wasn't for the creativeness and wonderfully talented musical mind that he has. i think half the reason why he has so many critics is because they expect such a high standard from him every time. IR is an amazin md, and he really is taleneted and produces beautiful music which influences many people. favouritisms on music directors is unavoidable, but its wrong to deny the wonders ARR (and others) have done.

Sam,
Knowledgeable people like you can explain how ARR works with/uses technology. Lots of people do not have a good idea - midi, sound modules, sampling, etc. I do know to some extent but I cannot speak authoritatively. Also, some people think, there are software which can come up with some music phrases or chords given some 'hints'. I am not sure how good these software are to be used professionally. This is some area where I have no knowledge. Note, these things should be explained at a high level in this forum, driving home the concept rather than the exact detail. You will doing a great service if you post those things. It will help quite a number of people appreciate ARR better.

People have audacity to comment about others
without doing a proper research on the subject.
Such an ignorance just like todays indian journalist
this fellow says "ARR introduced digital music which merely required good practical skills in programmimg and sound engineering."
Well then these so called MDs all have access to the same software, loops, synth etc how many of them are able to come up with some solid/good song ---ZERO--- or once in a blue moon.
the so called sound engineer arguement is all trash. Either these guys are jealous of ARRs growth or they think he is the reason for the downfall of their favourit MD
ARR is a trendsetter he has the immense ability to holds listener attention ,and this guy innovative ,he tries something different with each film whether one is able to appreicate those are entirely different story.
It reminds me of those days when fanatic MSV fans used to shout at IR and his work ... now its his turn ,people taste changes day to day
It is easy to sit and comment on others, then tell us how to bring about quality in TFM music,or better why dont you get into the ring and show us all heh?

Uv you are mistaking my point. I am not denying in any way that ARR is a trendsetter, but my point is that his trends have made it too easy for any tom, Dik or harry to enter TFM now. ARR is a trained musician, but when you see that people like Anuradha Sriram's brother is scoring the music for a song,it makes you think.

Kiru,
thanx a lot.i'm not that knowledgeable, i just have a passion for music, and i try to learn and pass on anything i pick up.i've had friends who have worked and met ARR.for example, my music teacher personally met ARR, at his recording studio in London.at the end of the day, behind everything, there has to be some creativity.ARR could not have come through all these years, with all his success (and critisism).I think its fair to say, that he is better recognised worldwide than IR- although that is not through lack of musical ability by IR, but through the evolution and broadening of man in ARR's time.ARR,has studied both eastern caranatic music, aswell as western.with this grounding, he has been able to manipulate caranatic music, ansd edited it using western stlye's of music, and equipment.ARR,is not just a talented musician, he's an educated man. he knows his instruments. if a keyboard was to stop wokring, most would send it to be repaired, or would buy a new one. he opens up the system, and fixes everything himself. being a qualified sound engineer, he can do this, and this adds to why he can be so versitile.he will make his own sounds himself. sure there are program's and packages about that you can get ideas from, and use, but thats why those packages are there. i haven't got very technical here, because i'm trying to keep the main focus on the discussion, but i'm trying to give an insight as to why ARR is such a success, and why i disagree with this thread.
thanx. take care.
Sam

thankyou.
