Mani Rathnam denies reports that there are no songs in his next film
[Source: Galatta, Sep 2003]
Seventy years after the Graumans Chinese Theatre commenced, the unique Hollywood experience is here in Chennai for the first time. Thanks to Cinema Paradiso, a full time rental DVD showroom which is the first of its kind in Chennai. Cinema Paradiso has more than 1000 titles covering action, romance and comedy. An attempt has been made by its owner Santhosh to bring the Walk of Fame concept here with an added flavor of our own celebrities.
Earlier it was Padma Shri Kamal Haasan who imprinted his hands and feet for the inauguration. Now the Oruvar of Tamil Cinema - Mani Ratnam was the celebrity who was on the Walk of Fame at Cinema Paradiso this morning. Starlets like Shalini Ajith, Kathal Virus Richards, Jeyam Ravi, attended the gala function. While speaking to galatta.com, Mani Ratnam said The Tamil version of my bilingual film will be launched soon and the project got delayed because of the setback to my health. And he denied reports that there are no songs in the film. It has songs and music by A R Rahman said the director.

I felt sad too really hoping that Mani's new film will only be filled with bgm. Then only we can really see the filth that ARR produces.

i personally hope ARR leaves TFM bcos he has no recognition from tamil ppl.( who are not known for loyality).... he gets better recgnition in north (example in V channel).... so he shuld leave Chennai pretty fast and make music for the deserving ppl. in North-India....

I agree with you, he should make music for what the masses that get appealed by fusion and not Tamil ppl where peoples expectation is at a much higher level and dont fall down that easily...

hey MIL ,dunt think only Tamil race is the most superior race in the world.... there are good brains in every culture and every race....i keep repeating this bcos we Mumbaiites are more open to Rock,Hip-hop pop, Techno stuff than Madrasis bcos Madrasis just ignore these types of music cos they think it is too noisy..... watever ppl. mite tell ,ARR is recognised better outside TN......

who cares! ARR is a tamilan and wat matters most is the respect from tamilians.
who cares wat mumbaiites thinks?? they also respect anu malik and other crap and give countless awards to them. that alone speaks tons abt them.

How come MADDY can go around swearing in vulgarity?
Why is that the matha farkers from ARR camp find it disgusting when others use vulgarity but not when MADMAN(boy/gal/eunuch?) MADDY use it?

Hi Maddy,
We have so many good MDs to listen to other than ARR (Vidyasagar, HJ, YSR, Bharadwaj etc) and IR is a legend and does not belond to this list. So we dont give much importance to ARR's mediocre works (like BOYS, Baba) and none of the us give less importance to his good works like Alaipayuthe, Kannathil Muthamittal, thiruda thiruda etc. Guys in Mumbai hardly see good MDs so even mediocre ARR works sound great. The level of quality we listen to is greater than what you guys listen to.
And about ur openness to other types of music ... even ARR in an interview to some singapore or malaysian radio (i think its called oli) has said we south indians are open to all kinds of music, whereas you guys are not, so he has to make things hindiish or punjabish and not be classical. I will give you the link if you want (I will give the real audio clip, if I could not find the link).

ARR is pathetically wrong abt. Tamils being open to different types of music and Northies not being so..... "Enrenrum Enrenrum punnagai" was a mediocre hit in chennai whereas its hindi version "Hum dum suniyore" created havoc in Mumbai.. this shows how ppl. react to western influence in indian sounds....
if HFM is so mediocre then y couldn't IR survive out there???/ and y doesent YSR become a hit there????? how can u call Boys mediocre????? "Girlfriend" song is a gr8 experimentation of fusion betn' rock and pop music (2 most conflicting types of music) ARR is just a wonder and u put him alongside with HJ,YSR and VS?? that's y i tell that ARR is not recognised properly in TamilNadu bcos u guys cannot accept unconventional things and are very close minded........

Hi Maddy,
Do you know how big a hit was alaipayuthey as a whole album (includes endrendrum punnagai). Its your attitude that because you guys chose endrendrum punnagai is great song doesnt mean it should be great to us (we have something between our ears, we know what is good and what is not).
Being open to western music is not "being open". Being western is trendy now and not because you have a great taste. TN is open to western music, Hindustani or any other type of music, which is called "openness". If a song sounds a punjabi or hindustani we accept it based on its quality (this is what ARR says in that interview, ARR is better than you in music and knowing about his audience, I guess or can I say that Maddy the great). I dont see the same happening. Now, dont say South Indian music is crap. I am glad that ARR is recognised in the North India. There should have been many that includes IR.
Instead of being a fanatic be a fan. Instead of barking give some good reasons. Dont expect everyone to appreciate the level you appreciate. Dont use this argument by saying ARR is not recognized in TN.
FYI,
I have respect for Hindi MDs and my North Indian and Western Indian friends are much more civilized than you who care about the music and not about who created the music primarily. Though everyone has respect for the man who created good music.

Vatsa, gr8-ly said.
Maddy!!
Now dont pounce on me that I am biased for IR..
Let me tell you something, there is nothing to fuse ROCK AND POP. POP-MEANS POPULAR MUSIC which by the way could be a Rock album from Avril lavagne to Iron Maiden.. No-doubt and Norah Jones won the grammy for the best pop song and pop album (though the album was Jazz), in the award acceptance ceremony Norah said, i dont know how my album is considered POP though it is not popular.
Now that your music knowledge tells me how dwelled you are in Music calling POP and Rock fusion, first of all try and learn the difference between various genre of music and then talk.
and btw Def-leppard is POP-Metal.. go and figure.
And I love the Girlfriend Song to fuse western beats with Carnatic.(my opinion never changes)

Maddy, how do you explain North's treatment of Vani Jayaram, Yesudas, SPB, Kamal hassan? (Hope you go through other concurrent threads)
