This is an effort, in a modest way, to trace the great contributions of KVM to the Tamil Film Music. As Tamil Film songs originate from the Tamil films, I am aslo taking the liberty of discussing the background of the films where KVM had comsposed- with the intention of adding spice. I believe this article would serve as a nostalgic tonic to the fans of old songs.

Kik- I am sure you meant KVM when you referred to 'Thirumal Perumai'.
'Pachchai maamalaippol meni' also finds place in the long 'Kaana kann kodi vendum' song by Soolamangalam Rajalakshmi in 'Konjum Salangai'.

Mani Sir... ON PART 45:
In addition to Saravanan & other's feedback:
AruNOdhayam:
"Muthu pavalam mukkani" was sung by TMS and PS (not LRE)
ENGAL THANGA RAJA:
PS solo for Manjula "Kodiyil oruvan kudi irundhann"
VAANI RAANI:
There is a lovely duet by SPB & PS "Mullai poo pallakku pOvadhenge" for Muthuraman and Vanishree
I am not sure whether there was a duet by TMS & SJ. She has not sung any song in Vaani Raani, I remember.

ON 'VAANI RAANI'
WHEN THIS FILM WAS PRODUCED, SHIVAJI WAS NOT BOOKED. IF WE NOTICE, IT WAS DIRECTED BY TWO DIRECTORS (FIRST ONE I DON'T REMEMBER) THE SECOND ONE IS CV RAJENDRAN (WHO WAS ASKED TO COMPLETE THE FILM AFTER THE FIRST DIRECTOR DIED)
THE FILM CAME IN 1974. IN HIS REPLY TO THE REVIEW WHICH CAME IN THUGLAK, C V RAJENDRAN REPLIED THAT HE DIRECTED ALL THE SCENES INVOLVING SHIVAJI GANESAN WHOM HE RECOMMENDED FOR THAT ROLE.
NOT A BIG ROLE FOR SHIVAJI IN THAT FILM.

Subbu- I too remember only 'Aasaikku pillai' from Vilayattu Pillai. I haven't seen the film, so I don't know the situation.
The song starts with PS singing the lines- slow and sad: 'Aasaikku pillai endru Aandavanai kettadhundu, Pillai vandha nerathile thaalelo,
unnai petra manam vaadudhada thaalelo'
Then, in the second verse, the pace suddenly quickens, and PS sounds cheerful: 'Muthu tamizh paadu, sittu nadai podu, thaththi thaththi vilayaadu, nadai vandi thalli thalli nadamaadu'
Then follows another surprising change, a voice which sounds like Jamunarani sings the following lines: 'Pattam mele poguthu paaru, paravai pole parakkuthu paaru, vattam ittu aaduthu paaru, mele vaalai neetti parakkuthu paaru'-
Hope someone can throw some light on the song!

Mani Sir, some more points:
1. Sathiyam- The TMS solo I referred to earlier is 'Pottaane oru podu'
2. Valarpirai: Isn't there one more TMS solo: Koondu thirandhadhamma thaai paravai parandhadhamma
3. Azhagu Nila- There is a superb PS solo: Aruvikkarai orathile.
The 'Aattam aadaatho' song has 3 voices- PS, Jamunarani and AL Raghavan
4.Which is the SC Krishnan song you have referred to in Rajarajan? Is it that Malaikkanni paattu?

Dear Everybody
Busily involved in the Bali conference. Now my Bali trip hs been cancelled following the bombings.
To sum up some querries, thanks for pointing out the mistakes and filling in the gaps that IK have kept empty. Other comments are:
Valarpirai- I am yet to see the movie. Not available in video or VCD form. I have asked around. I think I have heard that TMS solo:
Koondu Thiranthathamma.
I do not know if I mentioned about a solo by P. Suseela "Mounam Mounam" in the same film.
The SC Krishnan song in Rajarajan has been missed in my posting. Written by Muthukkothan, it goes like this:
Aayimalaikkanni Aangaara Deviye
AbiramaSundrari Ongararoobiye
Maayimagamaayi Malaikkanni Thaye
Padikkatha Methai was a big hit while Paaladai was a flop. There was a write up somewhere that only Pazhany (Music by VR)and Paaladai were flops among the "PAA" series of Bhim Singh.
I remember seeing the film Annai Illam. There is a scene where Devika is well dressed up and P. Suseela sings this song in a happy mood, while TMS sings in a sad tone for a lamenting Sivaji Ganesan.
The duet I meant was Thoongatha Kannendru Onru, not the solo Mayakkam Enathu Thayagam in Kungumam
I had mentioned in some of the earlier postings that Seergazhi Govinderajan was looking for the Chittor Rani Padmini film, in which he had sung for Sivaji Ganesean. The famous song is Paarthukondirunthale Pothum. There is also a duet. I missed this, and am thankful that Saravanan timely pointed outthe Vanangamudi songs. I think the song that Saravanan points out is
Malaiye Un Nilai Neeyum paaraai-wow! what a great song. Even Nagesh sings a portion of it in his own voice in the film Parisu. There is also a background song:
Aatchiyin Thimiraale by SG.
Good I was reminded.
Following the success of Thookku Thookki, where G Ramanathan had highlighted TMS using Sivaji in the film, there was an attempt, according to Seergazhi Govinderajan to use Sivaji Ganesan for Kokilavavi to boost Seergazhi Govinderajan. The screen play for the song "Thiruve Un Deviye Vaarai" was already worked out. But finally it went to R. S Raveender as the hero.
Somewhow the songs or SG for Sivaji remained very few.
Even the song "Engiruntho Vanthaan Idaichaathi Nanenraan" in Padikkatha Methai was a background song with Sivaji in the fore.
The Merry Go Round is the topic given to the dance music in Ratha Thilakam. But I am not aware of the Usha Urdup song.
The Neeyum Naanum Onnu Oru Nilayil Paarthaal Inru is one that I should not have missed. How could I miss such a great song that added value to Koduthu vaithaval?
I checked again the Kattilidava. It is not in the Vani Rani song book, but available in the record. Quite surprising.
I have not seen most of the later movies that I had mentioned, such as Kulama Kunama and Vani Rani. In some old movies I had left out songs that I did not quite like, but readers have pointed them out, perhaps they like them. This is welcomed, as my taste is not the yardstick to determine the quality and acceptability of the songs. But am happy the readers are filling the gap. Some of the songs you have mentioned are not known to me.
Thank you all of you for keeping me on my toes. Please keep pointing out the irregularities as it is our collective effort to restore the right information in the right order.
Gratefully,
Manisegaran

PART 47
MORE FILMS OF MGR
PARISU (1963)
This is a good movie with very good songs. I was personally surprised that this film never made it to 100 days at the box office. MGR, Savithri, M.N. Nambiyar, Ragini, Rajasulochana, MR.Radha and Nagesh are the leading actors in this film. KVM has given some of his best works in this film
A fantastic solo by TMS is:
(THOGAYARAA)
Alli Kondai Mudichu
Araikkasu Pottu Vachu
Velli Salangai Katti
Vilakku Vaikkum Nerathile
Vilakku Vaikkum Nerathile
Pattu Vanna Chittu
Padagu Thuraio Vittu
Paarppathuvum Yaraiadi
Annai Nadi Pottu
Paarppathuvum Yaraiadi
Annai Nadi Pottu
Allikkodi Pole Thenatrangarai Mele
Mella Mella Idai Asaiya Velli Silai Pole
(PATTU VANNA)
Aalai Paartha Vegam-Avan
Azhagai Paartha Mogam
Kalai Paarthu Nadantha Ponnu
Kaattuthamma Baavam
(PATTU VANNA)
Ponna Poranthaal Oru
Purushanukku Nere
Ninnagathaan Vendum Aval
Vaalzhil Oru Naale
(PATTU VANNA)
P. Suseela has this very good song for Ragini:
Ponnulagam Nokki Pogindrom
Putham Puthiya Sugam Kaanuginrom
Mannulagil Irunthu
Vinnulagil Paranthu
Kannulagil Kalanthu Vaazhuginrom
P. Suseela also sings this solo
Aaalai Paarthu Azhagai paarthu
Aasai vaikkathey
Aaravara Nadaiyaai Paarthu
Mayakkam Kollathey
P. Suseela’s yet another solo song is:
Kaalamennum Nathiyinile
Kaathalennum Padaguviteen
Maalaivarai Ottivanthen
Maru Karaikku Kootti vanthen
TMS and P. Suseela sing this enchanting duet:
PS
Enna Enna inikkuthu
Ehetho Ninaikkuthu
Vanna Vanna Thotrangal Anji Roooba
Kannai Vattamittu Mayakkuthu Anji rooba
TMS

Then comes one greatest duets of all time:
TMS
Koonthal Karuppu
PS
Aahaa..
TMS
Kungumam Sivappu
PS
Oho Ho…
TMS
Kondaval Mugamo Rojappoo
Some related digression
This was the song that Tamilvanan criticised bitterly saying “It was only Kannadasan who discovered that Koonthal is Karuppu and Kungumam is Sivappu”
What Kannadasan intended to say was this “The face of the lady whose koonthal is karuppu and kungumam sivappu is like rojaappoo” That is in prose form. The same matter expressed in poetic line ought to read:
Koonthal Karuppu
Kungumam Sivappu
Kondaval Mugamo Rojappoo
Tamilvanan is not a poet. He is a journalist. He was the predecessor of Cho Ramasamy, criticising each and all. Tamilvanan was all along condemning Tamil films. Finally he too became greedy and took Kathalikka Vanga- a filmof the lowest grade. He wrote “Nooraandu Varai Vaazhvathu Eppadi” and passed away at age 50!
THAZHAMBOO (1965)
This is another famous movie thyat adds credit to KVM, with very melodious songs. But the film was acommercial ailure. MGR. MR Radha, MN Nambiyar, S A Asohan, KR Vijaya, Manimala, Manorama and Nagesh are the main stars.
Trichy Thiagarajan has written a song for P. Suseela:
Vatta Vatta Paathi Katti
Vanna Vanna Selai Katti
Kattazhagi Nadappathu Naattiyama-Aval
Kannale Sutruvathu Raattinama?
Aalangudi Somu has written a song for TMS, Suseela and group:
Thazhamboovin Narumanathil-Nalla
Tharamirukkum Tharamirukkum-Athu
Thamathithaalum Nirantharamaaga
Manam Kodukkum Nalla Manam Kodukkum
Kannadasan has penned a song for P. Suseela:
Panguni Maathathil Or IRavu
Paal Pol Kainthathu Vennilavu
Thangathil Mithanthathu Mannazhagu-Angu
Thaniye Thavithathu PEnnazhagu
Kannadasan has also penned one more duet by TMS and P. Suseela:
Thoovanam ithu Thoovanam Ithu Thoovanam
Sottu Sotta Uthiruthu Uthiruthu-Athu
Thaazhvaarathilum Keezhvaarathilum
Thala Thala Vena valaruthu
Then comes the highly controversial song by Kannadasan, sung by TMS and P.Suseela. This was a song very seldom played in the All India Radio.
TMS

When Vali was composing songs for MGR, the usual "wolves" carried tales to MGR. This caused a drift between Vali and MGR. So Kannadasan was once again used by MGR. Just before that MGR had announced "From now onwards Vali would be the one writing songs for my films." implying that Kannadasan is out of favour. But after the wolves had done sufficient homework, Vali was kept away by MGR. Vali became downtroddedn economically, and was suffering from financial crisis. Later while songs were being produced for the film Thazhamboo, MGR sent message to Vali to compose "one " song for the film. Vali wrote a song and sent it away to the studio for recording. This is about the only song where Vali directly communicated his heart's feelings to MGR. Then they patched up their differences. The song in which Vali speaks to MGR is:
Engey Povidum Kaalam?-Athu
Ennaiyum Vazha vaikkum-Nee
Idayathai Thiranthu Vaithaal-athu
Unnaiyum Vaazhavaikkum
Ullathai Cholli Nallathai Cheithu
Varuvathai Varattum Enriruppom
Kannerellaaam Punnagaiyaagum
Kadamayin Vazhiye Ninriruppom.
Oru Sila Perkal Oru Sila Natkal
Unmayin Kankalai Thiranthu vaippar
Poruthavarellaam Pongi Ezhiunthey
Moodiya Kankalai Thiranthu Vaippaar
Kalkalirukka Kaikalirukka
Kavalaikal Nammai Enna Seiyum?
Uzhaippathu Onre Seyalenak Kondaal
Nadappathu Nalamaai Nadanthuvidum
MGR got the message and immediately patched up.
THAALI BAGYAM (1966)
This is a movie produced by Kannambaa. Apart from MGR and Kannambaa, Saroja Devi, SV Subbiah and MN Rajam act in the leading roles. There are some good songs:
A solo by P. Suseela:
Annayillaamal Piranthaval Yaar
Aval anbayum Arulayum maranthavar Yaar
Naalum Therinthaval Pen Thaane
Aval naattukkum Veettukum Kanthanee?
TMS and P Suseela sing this duet:
Kan Pattathu Konjam
Punpattathu Nenjam
There is another duet by the same pair:
Ippadiye Irunthuvittaal
Eppadi Irukkum Ethirkaalam
The duet by TMS and P. Suseela that has not failed to move the hearts of the lovers of light music is this:
PS

ARASA KATTALAI (1967)
Arasa Kattalai of Sathiyaraj Pictures has some of the best works of KVM. It is also a star value movie with leading stars like SA Asohan, MN Nambiyar, PS Veerappa(lighting appearance) RS Manohar, Saroja Devi, Jayalalitha, and Chandrakantha. The songs are simply great. The film was expected to be a big hit at the box office, given the star value and the enchanting songs.
There is a song of Vali sung by P. Suseela for Jayalalitha. The song simply elevates MGR to limitless heights.
Ennai paada vaithavan Oruvan.
En Paattukku Avanthaan Thalaivan
Oru Kutramillatha Manithan-Avan
Kovil Illaatha Iraivan
P. Suseela sings a solo for Saraoja Devi:
Pan Paadum Paravaiye Enna Thookkam-Un
Pazhangaala Kathaiyinri yaarai Kaakkum?
Thanneerum Rathamum Onruthaanaa?-Nee
Thayatra Kanrupol Aagalaama?
Muthukkoothan has written a song for TMS:
Aayiram Kaikal Anaithu Ninraalum
Aathavan Maraivathillai
Aanaikalitte yaar Thaduthaalum
Alaikkadal Oivathillai
Aadi Vaa!Aadi Vaa! Aadi Vaa
Aadap Piranthavale Aadi Vaa
Pugazh Thedap Piranthavale Paadi Vaa
Muthukkoothan has written a song for P Suseela:
Ethanai Kaalam kanavukal Kanden
Kaanbatharku-Unnau Kaanbatharku
Vali has written a duet for TMS and PS:
Mugathai Paarthathillai-Anbu
Mozhiyai Kettathillai-Intha
Manathai Ketttathillai-Ithil
Mayakkam Vanthathenna
Aalangudi Somu has written a duet song for TMS and PS:
Vettai Aadu Vilayaadu
Viruppam MPola Uravaadu
Veeramaaga Nadaiyai Podu
Nee Vetri Ennum Kadalil Aadu
There was a song that Vali wrote for a BR Bantulu film Nadodi. But MSV rejected saying that the song should be used in Raja Rani story and not in films with social themes. Vali liked the song so much that he gave it to KVM for the film Arasa Kattalai. KVM, MGR and everyone else accepted the lyrics in toto. The song, which is one of the best of Vali is:
Putham Puthiya Puthagame-Unnaip
Puratti Paarkum Pulavan Naan
Pothikai Valartha Senthamizhe
Paattil Vadikkum Kavingan Naan.
Palliyarai Ennum Palliyile Indru

Some observation.
This film is quite interesting. This is the only film where Jayalalkitha and Saroja Devi acted together with MGR. Jayalalitha enters and Saroja leaves MGR for good. In Nadodi Mannan Saroja Devi entered and Banumathy had to leave. In Arasa Kattalai Saroja Devi is placed on a flat table, and the audience are left to imagine that she has died. In Nadodi Mannan, Banumathy is on her death bed, and a portrait of a dead deer is shown. (Banumathy came in Kanji Thalaivan, but Saroja Devi never came back to MGR)
ADIMAI PENN( 1969)
This is a prestigious movie for MGR. A long delayed movie too. There was an advertisement of this film within an earlier film-Naan aanai Ittaal for the scene of the song “Nalla Velai naan Pizhaithuk Konden” In this film Jayalalitha was made a singer for the first time. During an interlude of some shooting scenes, everyone was resting. Jayalaitha was casually singing a song, which MGR overheard. Learning that she has the ability to sing MGR got her to sing a song. KVM composed the song in plain music, to suit the first comer to the cine songs. As the recording took place, MGR stood by her side to give her the encouragement. The song is :
Amma Enraal Anbu
Appaa Endraal Arivu
When MGR told Vali of this song that Jayalalitha was singing, Vali said, “ Anne, I had predicted that she would one day sing. In Arasakkattalai I wrote a song for her which goes “Ennai Paada Vaithavan Oruvan En paattukku Avanthaan Thalaivan”
Originally Vali wrote a song as :
Ematrathey Emarathey
Emarathey Ematrathey
But Mahadevan changed it as follows:
Yematrathey Yematrathey
Yemaarathey Yemaraathey
MGR liked this, and KVM rang Vali and got his approval. Pugazhendi and KVM often changed Vali's lines. vali did not like this. But KVM advised Vali tot this effect" The relationship between the songwriter and the MD must be like that between husband and wife. That is the only relationship where there would be deep love even thought a fight takes place. But Vali was adamant. MGR advised Vali that such fights and misunderstandings are very common in cine industry, and that the upcoming artistes ought to accommodate them.
Anyway the Yematrathey song came out very well with some western touch. Jayalalitha is seen in different dance sequences in this song.
Then comes the powerful song by TMS with good filming:
Thayillamal Naanillai
Thaane Evarum Piranthathillai
Enakkoru Thaai Irukkinraal
Enrum ennai Kaatkinraal
S. Janaki and P. Suseela sing this song in glorification of MGR:
Kalathai Venravan nee
Kaaviyamaanavan Nee
Vethanai Theerthavan
Vizhigalil NIrainthavan
Vetri Thirumagan Nee
Nadanthaal Athirumn Rajanadai...
The other famous solo of MGR where MGR glorifies his own self, very subtly is:
Unnai Paarthu INtha Ulakam Sirikkiratyhu
Background to this song:
In many songs MGR praised himself. By the time Adimai Penn was produced he was at the pinnacle of fame and glory. In the song "Unnai Paarthu intha ulagam sirikkirathu" he appears in a mask. A big crowd is gathered. The crowd looks for a saviour to rescue them from oppression. As the line goes "Nee kadavulai paarthathu kidayathu... avan karuppa sivappa theriyathu" MGR immediately opens up his mask and reveals his face. On seeing his face there is a tremendous applause because they had seen the kadavul. Then MGR says "Iraivan Oruvan Irukkindraan... Ezhayin Sirippil Irukkindraaan" This time MGR gives a broad smile. More thunderous applause! Anna is the one who said Ezhayil Sirpiil Iraivanai Kaanalaam. Here MGR says that and reveals himself. Indeed a very subtle indoctrination.
The highlight song is of course the song “Aayiram Nilave Vaa.” MGR had dominated on all areas of the cine industry. He finished off many of his competitors. There was one person whom he could not oppress. That was TMS. When Adimai Penn was in the making, MGR wanted TMS to sing the songs and get them recorded. But TMS had to rush to Jaipur for a family wedding. MGR pressurised TMS to finish the recording before going to Jaipur, but TMS said he would come back and complete the recording. There was a heated argument between them. MGR threatened that should TMS leave for Jaipur before recording the songs, MGR would create a new singer to replace TMS. TMS told MGR to go ahead and create a newsinger, and left for Jaipur. While TMS was away MGR got SP Bala to sing Aayiram Nilave Vaaa. The song was good, but the gambeeram of TMS was totally lacking. When TMS came back MGR got TMS to sing the rest of the songs- Thaayillamal Naanillai, Unnnai Paarthu Intha Ulagam Sirikinrathu and Emaatrathey Ematraathey.
MAATTUKKARA VELAN (1970)
This is a great hit of Jayanthi films. This was a silver jubilee hit too. MGR says this was the most difficult double role movie for him especially in filming the Oru Pakkam Paakkura song. Jayalaitha, Lechumy Asohan, V.K. Ramasamy. S. Varalechumy and Cho are the main stars here. The songs are simply great.
TMS sings a title song written by Kannadasan in praise of cow.
Sathiyam Neeye Tharmathaaye
Kuzhanthai Vadive Theivamagale
TMS and LR Eswary sing a well composed entertainment song:
Pattikkada Pattanamaa
Rendunkettan Lachanama?
Aalai Paarthu Nottam Parthu
Aalai Mudivu Kattanuma
Pattikkada Pattanamaa
Rendungkettan Lachanama?
TMS, P. Suseela and LR Eswary sing this great song:
Poo Vaitha Poovaikku Pookkal Sonthama
Poovukkume Thenukkum
Poo Chinthum Bothaiikum
Eekkal Sonthama
I love You I Love you I love love you.
A good love duet by TMS and Suseela:
Thottukkollavaa
Nenjil Thoduthukkollavaa
Pattukkollavaa Mella Pazhagikollavaa
TMS sings this solo:
Oru Pakkam Paakkura
Oru Kannai Saikkira
Ava Uthattai Kadichikkittu
Sirikkira Sirikkira Sirikkiraa.
EN ANNAN (1971)
Venus Pictures En Annan was another important movie for KVM as he brought some of the best gems. MGR, Asohan, MN Nambiyar, Cho, Jayalalitha, TK Bagavathy, Muthuraman and Vijaya Nirmala act in the leading roles.
Kannadasan has written a song sung by TMS:
Nenjam UNdu Meram Undu
Odu Raajaa
Neram Varum Kaathiirunthu paadu Raaja
A line is in this film attacking the ruling party-DMK.
Annanthu Paarkkum Maalikai Katti
Athan Arukinil Olai KUdisai katti
Ponaana Ulakendru Peyasrumittal
Intha Boomi Sirikkum
Antha Saami Sirikkum
(The DMK's election manifesto was to remove the squatters, but they continued to exist. This song and the Nam Naadu fim and songs were subtly indicating the empty promises of the DMK government, following Anna's death. All these culminated in the split between MGR and Mu Ka)
Kannadasan has also written a duet for TMS and S. Janaki. This song was well received by the music lovers. In this song there are many beautiful analogies.

Vali has written a song that was sung by PB Sreenivos and LR Eswary:

Oru Muraiyaa Iru Muraiyaa
Unnai Ketka Chollum
Kannadasan has written a famous folk duet for TMS and P. Suseela:

Kannadasan has penned one good solo for TMS:

Kannadasan has written a stage drama type of song for TMS and P. Suseela
Aayiram Ennem Konda Maaanida Jaathithannai

TMS and LR Eswary sing this famous song by Kannadasan:

Aanaalum Kooda Konjam Achamirukku
This movie had good songs and as expected was a success hit for KVM and those involved with it.
ANNAMITTA KAI(1972)
This was the last black and white movie of MGR. This was released after a long time. MGR. Bharathi, Bandaribai and Jayalalitha are the main stars.
P. Suseela sing this song:
Pathinaaru Vayathinile
Pathinezhu Pillaiyamma
TMS comes with this famous song:
Annamitta Kai
Nammai aakki Vitta Kai
Unnai Ennai Uyaravaithu
Ulakamellam Vazhavaikkum
Annamitta Kai
Nammaiaakkivitta Kai
TMS and S. Janaki sing his song:
TMS
Azhagukku maru peyar penna-alli
malarukku maru peyar kanna
S.JANAKI
Thamizhukku maru peyar amuthaa-athai
Tharuginra ithazh thanga chimizha
TMS and P.Suseela sing two love duets. one is:
Mayangivitten Unnai Kandu
The other is:
Onnunna Onnunna
Sollu Sollu
PALLANDU VAAZHGA (1975)
The last MGR film where KVM composed music and it ran for 100 days. All songs are good. But this happened to be a movie that I decided not to see with my family members. This movie is recent to us and I believe we do not need much introduction. Let me just say in passing:
By Vaani Jayaram:
Maasi maatha Kadasiyile Machaan Vantharu
Jesudass
Onre Kulamendru Paaduvom
Oruvane Devan Enru Potruvom
A duet by Jesudas and Vani Jayaraam:
Inru Sorgathin Thirappu Vizha
Puthu Selaikku Vasantha Vizha
A duet by Jesudass and Kala:
Poi Vaa Nathi Alaiye-Ival
Poochoodum naal Paarthu Vaa
A duet by Jesudass and Suseela:
Yenna Sugam Yenna Sugam
Unnidam naan Kanda Sugam

Mani Sir...
"Aayiram nilave vaa".. song had some other stories also, as I heard from friend's circle. SPB was running severe fever and MGR had to compel SPB to go back home and record after he recovers. But SPB stayed (may be thinking that he would be dropped if he goes back home) and recorded. The final record was 17th it seems. Also P. Suseela was not comfortable to sing with SPB, as she felt that the song may not come out well with SPB's fever-full shrilling voice. This is also a hear-say. And MGR had to convince PS to cooperate and encourage SPB. If you listen to the song even now, one can make out that SPB has "jaladhosham voice" goNa goNa endru.. :-))
