Its 15$ a month. The same program schedule as in India but only adjusted to California time.
yipeee.
why is this relevant to newtfmpage?
Most TFM DF'ers who comment on music are based in USA and they have to buy CD'a and cassts to actually get to hear Latest TFM music. Now its on Sun TV most of the time and so more TFM for USA DF'ers.

I am so excited to hear about this news.
There are only a few international language cable available in Dishnetwork, Tamil will be the first regional language channel in dishnetwork.
I am trying to get the installation done by myself with the help from a friend of mine. I cant wait to see the Deepavali non-stop programs.

Prabhudas,
What I meant was I have cable (expanded) which is provided in every apartment as well as a dish (satellite) to get international programs alone. So, when I want to watch american programming, I switch to cable and when I want to watch international programming, I switch to dish. It's all setup to be done using just a button of your remote, no unnecessary pain of shifting wires etc. I called dish network directly, ordered and got the installation done through them. They setup the whole thing to operate seamlessly with cable.

I also have a similar setup like shakar. I watch regular American Network on cable and have a dish for Zee and Sony. When bharath created this thread (Thanks to bharath), I immediately called Dish and asked them about the channel. I was delighted to know that it comes on Channel 610 (Zee is on channel 611). I immediately ordered. I am enjoying SUN TV now.
It is good to see and hear tamil programs after a long time. The good thing about SUN is that they have varied programs in half hour slots. It is a mixture of serials, Films based, music based programs. I was getting bored with Zee and Sony. Thanks once again to Bharath.

raycas, i get my sun tv free as well. btw, is asianet still analog? i remember tat b4 sun tv went digital, it used to be horrible. but asianet was always crystal clear despite being on the same sat as sun. but asianet has moved theirs which is probably why ur getting it now. i've heard asianet is going to make theirs paychannel as well. hope sun tv doesnt do the same. i'm pretty sure no one at home will bother to pay for it. I've been preparing ahead by recording tfm songs and so far made 6 volumes including 240 mins & 300 mins complilations each. Have been working on tis for more than a year now.

Jeera:
did you mean dish or Dish. I mean, you have a dish for Sony, but you called Dish - is it the Dish as in the Dish Company? and do you use dish for Sony from Dish or another company. orey kolappama irrukku. kaalam karthaaley unga posting padichchu orey santhegam. dishwasher ikku badhila washing masine on pannitten, yen ina dishes ey ellam washing masine illiye pottuten!

Please yaaru ennai thuratha vaaradeenga..., I am more confused now please bear with me and see if u can clarify few things,
1. Should I definitely need two dish antennas installed to view SUN TV or just one dish antenna is good?
2. If I chose to watch only SUN tv programming, can I subscribe for only that, if I already have a cable connection from another provider, I guess like ur set up.
Thanks again.
WN, how are u recording the programs? do u use the optional PVR set up with the dish?
Can u convert those digital ( ?) recordings to burn them as VCDs with some software/hardware in ur PC?
Thanks
Prabhudas

wn,
asianet is digital, it's on hotbird. the quality is very clear, only sometimes u can see those squares which naturally makes the picture a bit unclear, but that's only a very minor problem, almost not worth mentioning.
anyway, have also heard rumours about asianet going to become paychannel, by december, some say. but fact is, the people here are so enthusiastic about it that most of them, including my parents, don't mind paying 15-20 euros per month for it, only if they can watch all those serials, programmes and movies. as i told before, it's a real craze here, the telephone is ringing day and night people asking my father to help them with the settings. others who didn't have a satellite yet are even asking my father to go along with them to buy the most suitable one (i mean receiver, with card etc.).
me personally only watch one programme called 'comedy show' (but not regularly) and of course the movies, if they are at least from the eightees (i leave out the old ones with nazeer and co. horrible movies!) it's always a pleasure to watch those good old films. and the best thing about it is the timing. i wonder why they show a movie at 00.15 in india, who is going to watch that there?? but fortunately 00.15 in india means 20.45 here in vienna, and that's the almost perfect time to watch a movie.
songs, well i don't quite bother to look forward to them and record them...too stressing...and besides, when i hear music, i need best quality...

Its good to know that finally someone is entering to our country to help us in these troubled times. However, I still feel bad on the following issues:
1). Two dishes setup
2). Relying on an American company (hopefully we don’t start fighting again)
3). Serials, serials, serials. I don’t know about our people reception yet
4). I am sure TV is a powerful tool; it could be used to entertain, educate and enhance our life styles especially people live in other countries. So, I think we need someone who could teach & entertain exclusively our community for survival. Not sure we will be satisfied with this prigs.
5). We require local participation especially people like us living in the USA would like to watch & enjoy our local contents.
I am not sure, last time I have heard about a local network in Chicago area called SiSTN, South Indian Satellite Television Network was operating with specific goals to cater exclusively for American market... what happened to that? Does anyone know? I like their program choices than watching 15 serials a day and wasting many peoples valuable time in this foreign country at this time after 911. Let us discuss this in neutral point without siding on anyone. Appreciate your responses. Thank you

Prabhudas,
There is no confusion. If you have cable for american progeamming (from whichever provider), keep that for your american programming. You need only 1 dish and 1 receiver to get SUN TV and other Indian channels (if you want). You can subscribe to only SUN TV if you want from Dish network. You need 2 dishes and 1 receiver only if you plan to cut your cable service and choose Dish network for both american as well as international programming.
Summary of charges:
2 dishes with 1 receiver: For american as well as international programming. You also have to pay $6 per month if you want your local channels like Fox, NBC etc
1 dish with 1 receiver: For international programming alone. You have to pay a $5 service fee above your programming package fee since you are not subscribing to american programming. But your cable service will give you all the american channels including local channels you need without any extra fee.
My experience is that even with the $5 service fee, it is still cheaper to keep a combination of cable and dish, thereby getting both american as well as international programming like SUN TV. Hope your doubts have been cleared.
Others, apologies for consuming so much space for this issue. I just wanted to help Prabhudas, that's all.
