Hi gang

I am going to be doing a radio show for the TFM review of this year. Let me explain what I am expecting from this page.

I am interested in the music album relesed this year, the new singers introduced, the new MD interduced, the outstanding music albums or outstanding song of this year.

Anything else that will come under this topic.

I AM LEAVING IT ALL OPEN. LET IT JUST BE MUSIC OF 1998.

what movie is ilavenirkkal panjami .
what song for Hariharan, Mahalakshmi and pazhani Bharathi ..........can you be more specific, because of a lot of songs by them.........

and can you choose one album among the list. and I guess IR is the best MD award. can should he get the comeback year of the year

Most groundbreaking song musically: Ennuyirae Ennuyirae (the Spanish style guitar licks with whimsical accordion loops were world class)
Most groundbreaking sandham (ragam treatment): Meettaatha Oru Veenai (TFM pundits concur that IR has taken Rita Gowli to new heights with this song)
Most unappreciated singer: Unni Menon (Poongaatrilae from Uyirae)
Best Sandham: Vaanaththu Thaaragaiyo
Best Overall Song (including music, lyrics, singing): Nee Kaattru Naan Maram
Best Rising Talent (MD): Vidhyasaagar (Nilavae Vaa)

Best Recycled Song: Kaadhali Kaadhali (I'm told that the guitar riffs were courtesy of the BackStreet Punks but this song is infinitely more listenable than the source)
Most overused voice: Hariharan
Most underused voice: SPB
Most improved voice: ARR (sandhosha kanneerae)
Most regressive voice: S.Janagi (nenjinilae)
Best Lyrics: Vairamuthu (Nee Kaatru Naan Maram)

UDHAYA, THANKS FOR YOUR INPUTS,

BUT what do you mean by "Crossover artist" and what movie are "Ennuyirae Ennuyirae" and "Kaadhali Kaadhali" from.

Also you haven't talked about the best MD, the best male voice or the best female voice. thanks in advanced.

Lankathas: there is still more than a month for 1998 to be over. Remember KM came very late last year.
This may be a good time to start collecting nominations.
We can then pick a few nominations in each category and the do a Poll as done on TFM Page Surveys..

did KM got released in 1998 or 1997 .... do I count that as a 98 or a 97 movie

hi,
KM was a 1997december movie., but it is not considered in any of the 'awards' for 1997 - they simply gave everything to 'surya vamsam' & so we can consider it as 1998 album.

sorry ! i visited tfm on 1998july only ! sorry for this Wrong info. but i think as far as the other awards like tamilnadu govt.,filmfare,lux etc., are concerned they didn't considered KM. its sure.

Lankadas: Since KM almost swept the TFM-DF awards last time including it this time also in the DF awards is not fair IMO. If you want to conduct a poll exclusively for your radio show, then make that very clear here so that people know what they are voting for.

Sorry, I just learned that Ullaasam was a 97 movie, so substitute "Aedho Oru Paattu-Unnidaththil Ennaik Koduththaen?" for Konjum Manjal.

1997 tamilnadu govt. awards are announced., the joke is that SAR getting best MD award when KM is there in the competition ( PB & Vijay get awards for KM ) the whole info is available in dinakaran website.

hi all.,
After seeing all your results & opinions i have the following things to share with u., these may be wrong but these are my opinions in selecting best *** for a specified period..
First of all., Dubbed films may be avoided as these films are gonna get their credits in the Original versions. So i don't think we should consider 'Uyire.,' for this discussion., If u still have doubts., refer previous national awards. Only Original movies are given credit - not their Dubbed versions.
Second thing is when u r considering 1998., we should consider only those films which are released in 1998 - so IMO., MVU & Annan should be avoided.
ThanX to RR who gave the link for the site with 1998 films list. I went there., found 84 films in the list., 60 of them are Origiunal tamil movies., i considered only those movies. of these 60 movies i listed down the songs that really touched the people., the pity is that i was able to list only 61 songs from 32 films., that means 28 films had no impressive songs at all ( atleast IMO ). Need not say that most of those 28 films were MDed by Deva., Deva was not successful this year it seems., he was able to produce only one Good Number - 'Ninaiththen vanthaai' where almost 90% of the songs were straight lift from its Original version MDed by Marakathamani. So Sorry deva., Number of films is not a big thing ! same advice goes to Sirpi who gave 2 good songs in Jan1998 from Moovendhar & then Vanished like something., SAR has done Quite decent work. Good number of films with Good songs., some of his albums like 'Unnidathil ennai koduththeen' were excellent., Congrats & all the best to Him.,
IR's sons had a dull year1998., both KR & YSR gave 2 albums each ., all of moderate Quality. KR's 'Kaasumeelee., ' was a SUPERHIT song., where YSR's 'Ooyvedu nilve.,' was an IRish melody - one of my favourite songs this year.
Coming to the best MD selection., after listing down the songs., i can see the following films with 3 or more Good songs.
* Kizakkum Merkkum(IR)
* Kangalin Vaarththaikal(IR)
* Ninaiththeen vanthaai(Deva ??!!)
* Veera thaalaattu(IR)
* Jeans(ARR)
* Iniyavalee(Deva)
* Dharma(IR)
* Poonthoottam(IR)
* Desiya geetham (IR)
You can decide from the list., I had no problems in selecting the Best MD of the year 1998., it is IR for more than 1 film & to be honest., ARR for Jeans at par with him. This doesn't mean that ARR has equalled all the other films by IR this year., But Jeans was an innovative & initiative idea in TFM which is followed by most of the MDs in tamil now., The impact it created was defenitely more & it deserves this Best MD award. So i select IR & ARR as the Best MDs of 1998.
Now talking about IR., this year IR gave us 8 albums., you can see 6 of them in above mentioned list. SO i think this 1998 is a very good year for IR & he manages to get the position which he got by giving a great album like KM at the end of 1997. Another good thing for us is that many of the IR's recent albums are very good & appreciated by music lovers., so we can expect a great 1999 with lots & lots of great songs by IR.
ARR is reducing his number of tamil films. He is now concentrating on HFM & Doing more than 10 films in Hindhi now., but still we have lots of ARR albums to come this year - enswasa kaatre., sangamam., kaathalar thinam., & many more. he gave only one straight tamil album in 1998. I saw the Ad. of 'Kaathalar thinam' audio cassette which said 'Viraivil varugirathu' in may1998., this is november & there is no sign of the album. En swasa kaatre is more than 1 year old film., May be all these expected albums get released in 1999 beginning & next year when we discuss best MD of 1999., we'll be able to see more than one film in list.
