A KJY Retrospective
KJY in statistics

A person of KJY's stature cannot be reduced to mere statistics. But they certainly help in understanding the magnitude of his contribution.

How many tamil movies has he sung in?
How many awards has he recieved?
How many different languages has he tried his hand at?
How many actors has he sung for?
How many people has he sung with?

There are many more questions that people will like to know the answer to. Lets try to supply the relevant statistics about this great singer.

  KJY started singing for TFM around 1964/65. His
  first song (MD: S Balachander) was
  
  neeyum bommai nAnum bommai,
  nenaichchup pAththA ellAm bommai
  
  In the movie it was sung for a pichchaikkAran (some
  vague actor). This song was immediately followed
  by 2 songs in kAdhalikka nEramillai. So it has
  been more than 35 years since he entered TFM.
  He sang only a handful of songs in the first 5
  years of TFM. It was thangath thOniyilE of
  USuVaa and then vizhiyE kadhai ezhudhu
  and dheivam thandha veedu which actually
  caused him explode in TFM in a big way.

(KJY was picked to win, but because of a misunderstanding caused by an earlier statement by KJY that he does not want to be considered for awards, the selection committee changed its mind. He was talking about the Kerala State awards which he had won 16 times already)
  
  Place of residence: Chennai, India. (KJY has a home and recording studio in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, and spends a lot of time there for business reasons and to visit his sons who live there. However, he is NOT a U.S. resident.

  To celebrate KJY's 33rd birthday, Chembai Vaidyanadha Bhagavathar sang at a concert along with KJY. He also presented KJY with a Tamburu, with a request to concentrate more on Carnatic music than film music. (Tharangini Music has released Part-I of this concert titled "GURUSMARANA-Volume-I".
  
  There will be a "super" concert at Shanmughananda Hall in Mumbai on January 26, 2000, to celebrate the 60th birthday. Many national leaders, celebrities and musicians (including Lata Mangheshkar) will be attending.
