  The very idea of `fan-club' itself is madness. On top of that is the requirement of the star to meet, involve them in activities etc. Utter foolishness to create a following:-(
  
  The job of actor is to act...nalla irundha pathu rasinga, illatti thookki eringa...that's all. No hero worship and doing things for him/ on behalf of him etc. Rubbish!

  Completly agree with you but the fact is that everybody is not like you... You have people who are completly mad at their idols... So I think it is a duty(for the stars) to show some kind of respect towards them and use them for welfare activities... Coz' ultimately, if not used for such things, fan clubs are a utter waste of time... they don't have any purpose...

  Fan-club is rubbbbbbbish, infact, Kamal also insists the same "Nalla irundha rasinga, illa midhinga...but after that 3 hrs. don't carry me in your heart"
  But doing welfare activities atleast, should be hailed in whatever way it is done. It cannot be treated as rubbish.

  I get your points, which are directed toward the stars themselves (who won't in any case care to read our posts here and I feel it's a waste of time and effort)...
  
  ...To me idolizing movie personalities is unimaginable...and hence, my post was for the commoners like TFM DF'ers. I see fanatism even among the educated populace, some of whom are computer savvy enough to post in web forums:-( It'd be great if at least such people shed their worshipful attitude toward movie personalities...If such ones really want to do welfare activities / charity etc., there are 100 other decent org's through which they can volunteer...not through the name of these immoral / dirty personalities...

  The 'Fan Club' phenomenon in Tamil Nadu/India deserves a study by some sociology majors. Not a bad idea for a Ph.D theses. I think, it is more to do with socio-economic situation of the audience, seeking some kind of identity. Being a fan, provides a form of 'belonging'. Much like the caste affiliations of yesteryears. Maybe it is the caste system showing up in a different form with the new generation.
  Those who are educated also are susceptible to this, just like some educated people are also casteists.
  Using Fan Clubs for political purposes is a selfish phenomenon, but an understandable from the point of view of mass-communication.

  KFF prohibits 'Chandramukhi' distribution in Kerala

  Kerala Film federation has instructed its distributors to not buy the distribution rights of the film 'Chandramukhi' for the state of Kerala.
  
  The move is due to a controversy surrounding the film's source. Fazil and Swargachitra Appachan and writer Madhu Muttom claim that the film is a remake of 'Manichitrathaaz'. This qualifies them to receive royalties and remake fee. But, the makers of the Tamil version claim that the film is a remake of the Kannada version named 'Apthamitra'.
  
  While making the Kannada version, director P Vasu and producers had got all the required permissions from Fazil and the film producer. The producer and director had threatened that they would stop the film's release in Kerala. The Federation has now instructed its distributors to not buy the film's rights for Kerala.
  
  But, it is rumored that a Coimbatore-based company has bought the distribution rights for Kerala for a huge amount.
