Guys, I thought of starting this thread for quite some time , it will be nice if everybody contributes a decent openion, without attacking any one particular MD over the other, particularly IR vs ARR. Please give your openions about the MDs who did good job with very few TFM yet reasonably OK job, ex.. Shivaji Raja, Hamsaleka, Mr. Kreem ...sorrryyyy Maragadamani, Raveendran from Kerala,.
You can avoid the ones like K Bagyaraj etc.. (God.. Isn't it pathetic tamil makkal have to put up with this kind of nonsense sometimes, rather most of the times).
We can restrict to probably 1970's onwards, unless a few really want to discuss about KVM, MSV-TKR, etc.
Personally I am a diehard HC IR fan ( Thanks to IR and his immortal music, which always helps me to be attached to my every memories which I had during most of my high school, college, and now professional life), however I listen to other good MD's music to be specific...ARR, KR, YSR and now HJ ( He is good .. believe me, after quite some time I heard little bit of good BGM in some places in MINNALE, the movie although is another crap anyway).
My personal top three debut albums are (with some bias from my addiction to IR music) Annakili, Roja and Oru thali raagam. I struggle to decide between Roja and Annakili to be number on edebut album ever in TFM. I am not writing the criteria why I think they are best, but we can start another thread on that.
Again, please no personal attacks, no individual attacks on any single MD, (I never mind if somebody attacks Deva.....just kidding, although I hate to be in a place where there is a Deva song playing, just my personal stuff.. don't tell me then I can never walk in Tamil Nadu, I am from Karnataka, so no much exposure to his crap...)
Have great discussion guys, it will be good if you write why on e particular album is best the other.

I apologise for the last sentence on Deva, it is not intentional, but the sentence seem to have a tone of attack on Deva. I still don't like his music

Let me leave the experts to decide on the best debut album; I will like to list some good first-Movie-Album for a new MD
1. 'Achamillai Achamillai ' --- VS Narasimhan
2. 'OOmai Vizhigal' -- Manoj Gyaan (atleast their first TFM)
3. 'Nammavar' --- Mahesh
4. 'Mannukkul Vairam ' - Dhevendran (though I think Vedham Pudidhu was recorded at the same time)

-- Digression - sorry --
Can some one give more info on Dhevendran?? When I first heard 'Kannukkul Nooru nilava??' I thought it was IR... If he could give such good music, why wasn't he able to sustain??

Mahesh's Nammavar was a good piece too. I heard somewhere that the music director has passed away (cancer). Can anyone confirm that? "Poonkuyill Paadinaal Nalla Sangeetham" is one my favorite songs from the movie.
Curious, I thought "Kannukool Nooru Nilava" was IR's work too! I wish somebody can give more details about this music director.

With due respect to all IR fans, atleast I was able to clearly identify Dhevendran's music in "Vedham Pudhidhu" to be distinctively different from IR and not at all resembling any IR typical work. If I am not wrong that was probably the first movie of BR with out the involvement of IR in his movies, released after the previous 'Kadalora Kavidaigal" a master piece by this superb combo. I still feel, the typical BGM , IR has rendered in every movie of BR ( except probably Vaalibame vaa vaa) was the biggest downside of that reasonably Ok movie with some good songs composed by Devendran.

PD,
The Vedam Puthithu song song you are
referring to, looks a lot like IR style.
And I think IR has given his best to
BR always (even Valibame Vaa Vaa in which
I liked a few songs).
And IR's Annakili is my choice for
the best debut album because that's
how the genius got introduced to tfm
and I was/am/will be fortunate to
hear his amazing music.
I don't want to make any comparisons
for this purpose.

Maaran,
You are wrong on both occassions. Makesh had blood cancer and recovered fully. And 'Kannukkul Nooru Nilava' is by Dhevendran in the film 'Vedham puthidu'
Curious!!,
Dhevendran is a highly talented Malayalam MD who is a thick pal of KJY. Looks he helped KJY when he was studying and KJY in turn helps him to get few films. This is what I heard from friends. May be I am wrong.

Maran.,
Deva's Debut album (released) is 'Manasukkeththa Magarasa' - a ramarajan movie, Had a couple of good songs I guess.,
IMO, Best Debut album in TFM is Roja followed by AnnakkiLi, Oru thalai Ragam and Minnalae.

sabesan.,
I was '-1' years old when Annakkili was released ;-)
So I rated it as per my experience with the album when I listened to it for the first time
(probably 15 years after its release :-) Don't doubt, I am HCIRF by all TFM Standards, But I actually Saw and felt the effect Roja made on TFM., that may be the reason I rated it as best.,
Maran,
First movie of MSV-TKR Combo is 'PaNam' (NSK Movie I think)., First MSV Movie (After the duo split for some reasons) is 'Aaayiraththil oruvan'.
Waiting for your treat ;-)

I agree with NagaS, I too "saw the effect Roja made on TFM". ARR practically, single handedly revulutonized the Indian music industry with it. I am not sure, did Annakil achieve the same thing when it came out? If it didn't then maybe Roja is the best debut album TFM has seen.
Minnale is superb, but we all can't actually say it was entirely DIFFERENT from the norm (of these days music which was pioneered by Roja). Roja was a fresh new style that has not been heard or done before.
So was Ranjit Baroth's VIP. Basically just a clone of ARR as was Minnale. I am not saying they are not good, but they were not as ground breaking as Roja.
Perhaps if ARR had not entered the TFM, Minnale would have been THE debut album. But, would it have been given the modern day classic treatment that Roja got?
My humble opinion :)

annakkiLi, for very obvious reasons:
1. It introduced the greatest MD we have ever seen in TFM, who turned film MD into an icon
2. Started the musical sensation in south India that came along with IR -WCM, fusion, folk, light, semi-classical, even POP - you name anything, it has happened in TFM since then
3. From that day, the technician hitherto called `music' became `MD' & has become much more superior to lyricist, singers, why even heroes / directors sometimes
4. No big banner promotions, budgets for making annakkiLi music popular...it stood on its own merit and was a starting point for music to rule on its own
....I can keep listing many more reasons....

After Maran Reminded me 'VIP' By Ranjith., I now feel it is better than Minnalaey (My third spot)., 'Minnal oru kodi' is a fantastic song and Ranjith tried to atleast sound different from ARR which HJ failed to do.,

sorry i misunderstood the topic and posted thalaivaasal. But still, it has good songs.
If the *best* means best in heart touching then i would vote for AnnakkiLi. Man, what a simple and soul stirring song AnnakkiLi (u)onna thaedudhae is.
If the *best* means bringing in a radically new dimension to TFM, new trend by itself then it is Roja.
I say this because, AnnakkiLi by itself was not a new trend setting film. Nor did it indicated (though it indicated a successful new MD has come to TFM, but it definitely did not show that a new trend has come to TFM). But Roja did it.
But, personally, i go for soul stirring songs and hence vote for AnnakkiLi.
