Wow funtastic...This is some thing great. I thought ARR would do some thing like WOHE kind of westrn orchestered music...but he has give a great piece of Indian flavour with this composition....That is what he should have done and has become successful in that. Making vanessa mae play Indian classical(Carnatic and hindusthani mixed) is a great acheivement by itself. A world wide album has a number with core indian flavour...Thanks ARR.

Violin-pop princess Vanessa Mae will present a desi twist to her
music as she plays A R Rahman's tunes on her latest album. The two
musical prodigies are collaborating for the first time on the track
Raga's Dance , for her album Choreography .
Working with the Chennai-based Rahman was an "organic" experience,
Vanessa told TOI in a statement from Singapore. "He would show me a
patchwork of a few bars that we would add onto the previous few bars
and the track would grow. There are some violin flourishes that AR
had written, literally seconds before I entered the recording booth,
and this made the song all the more enjoyable to record as the whole
experience just flowed!" Both Rahman and Vanessa have been child
prodigies.
Rahman took to the keyboard at the age of 9, and by 11 was working
with the likes of Illayaraja. Violin-pop princess Vanessa Mae will
present a desi twist to her music as she plays A R Rahman's tunes on
her latest album.
The half-Thai, half-Chinese Vanessa took up the violin at the age of
5, playing Bach and Mozart with the Royal Philharmonic at 10. With
her debut album The Violin Player , Vanessa added pop fizz to the
formal world of classical music. Rahman took time off in between his
other projects to compose this track. "It was cool to work with
Vanessa because even though she is such a big star, she is open and
receptive to musical challenges," says Rahman. Another incentive for
him was to work with Oscar-winning composer Vangelis, on the same
project.

Vanesse-Mae review
[from http://www.vanessa-mae.nu/choreography.htm ]
Overall impression:
Choreography is not only Vanessa-Mae's debut recording on the Sony Classical label, but far most marks her return to the field where classical music is combined with modern influences to a mix that some define with the rather limiting label of 'classical crossover music.' After an explorative outing to pure pop on her most recent album 'Subject To Change,' Vanessa-Mae returns to the style she so successfully defined and explored as no other artist did. 'Choreography' is a sensational multi-cultural journey into dance rhythms from all over the globe. Composers with diverse backgrounds, but all with worldwide fame and acclaim, must be credited for the music on this album. Their compositions are all based on well known dance themes, but are yet very original in their elaboration. All tracks are exciting, surprising and dynamic. Whoever expects an easy listing album will find oneself be disappointed. Who listens to Choreography will find lots of recognition of the basic dance themes, but will also by no doubt be touched by the beautiful violin parts of Vanessa-Mae, the great and overwhelming orchestral movements, and nice, sometimes subtle, sensational or even funny, accompaniment of traditional instruments used for the music from that particular part of the world.
'Choreography' is sensational, dynamic, varied, sensitive, surprising, exciting and a very successful attempt to combine traditional dance music from all over the world into complex modern arrangements that challenges the listener. With 'Choreography, Vanessa-Mae is back in the spotlights where renewing artistic approaches of classical music can attract attention from those to whom performance of classical music only according the original scores is simple not enough.
I would not be surprised if 'Choreography' will also become a huge commercial success.
Raga's Dance - A.R Rahman
Raga's Dance is a composition is which the mystical Asian moods are raised. Fine violin play is constructed around the orchestral movement. Vocals are also used effectively to create the Asian mood.
