These are the great lines of Kaviyarasu Kannadasan in the movie Ratha Thilakam where he acts in the movie singing these lines. ( Song.. Oru Koopayilae yen kudiyiruppu)
What a visionary he was ? Indeed, he is NIRANDARAMAANAVAN.
I share some of my observations about Kavingyar. I want all the fans of HIM to join this discussion and add more quality material in praise of his great works.
This is the only way we pay tributes to this GENIUS.
WILL WE EVER GET BACK A KAVINGYAR LIKE KANNADASAN ??

venkatesh,
There are at least 2 volumes of KK's movie songs. Vanathi Pathippagam released them. Any TN bookstore carrying Thamizh books should have them.
There are many sites on the net selling Thamizh books. Perhaps some other folks here can post the links.

I am ardent fan of Kaviarasar. Got into this site while browsing. He has written many lyrics which are all time great. To start with let me talk about a song which is for a nuptial night.
'Kannan kovilil thuyil kondan
Iru kannam kuzhi vizha nagaiseidhan
ennai nilavinil thuyar seidhan
adhil ethanai ethanai sugam vaithan
serndhu maghizhndhu pouradi
thalai seevi mudithen neeradi
kannathai paarthen munnadi
patta kayathai sonnadhu kannadi'
There are so many songs which are written these days by various lyricists for such occassions. Most of them are vulgar, some of them probably are good because of the tune or the bgm but nothing carries the value of words neither the sutleness with which one can narrate such an occassion.
Let me know if anyone feel that there are poets who can beat these type of lines from the ever great kaviarasar.

Just to add onto what shankar initially started off...how about this one:
'Vanam endhan malaigai
Vaiyam endhan medaiye
ennangal...naan ennum ennangal
engirundhen, inguvandhen
isai'yineley ennai marandhen
iraivan sabayil kalainjan naan'
What if vairamuthu is kaviperarasar...this is what kaviarasar has to say..

Hi! folks, am back again after a short inevitable break.
Nuptial songs are aplenty by kaviarasar and amongst them some were cticised and even banned from public broadcasts.
"Vaarai en thozhi vaarayo" had the lines "malaratha pennum malarum....." which were seen in bad light by the then critics and moralists.
"Ennirendum pathinaaru vayathu" ('Annai Illam' 1963) had this controversial line "....siru thunbom polla inbathile iravarumae kalanthum".
"Ithu varai neengal paartha paarvai ithukkaagathaana?" ('Panakkara Kudumbam' 1964)was banned due its suggestive lines as well as the night scene background music which complemented the critics' claims.
Most of the critics are dead and gone now and surely they will be turning in their graves if the present more provocative songs are played to them!
The beauty in kaviarasar's penmanship is such 'vulgarities' are disguised in chaste Tamil so much so that one feels the sense of guilt when criticising.
I personally feel that no other poet has equalled his standards in two love-duet songs i.e. "En arugil nee irunthaal iyarkkai ellam sulaluvathu yean?" ('Thirudathae' 1961) and "Moodi thirantha imai irandum paar paar endrathu" ('Thaayai Kaatha Thanayan' 1962).
The emotions displayed in these two songs are beyond explanation. It can be regarded as an ice-breaker for novice lovers. And of course, "Chippi irukkathu..." ('Varumayin Niram Sigappu' 1981). I am yet to come across 'ice breaker' songs like these by others. Is it any wonder then to hear songs like "Kannadhasanae Kanndhasanae vanthu vidu En kaathal varigalai konjam thiruthividu" ('Marikozhunthu' 1991)!
Btw, Venkatesh something is indeed wrong with my e-mail address. Try these both:- raj_k65@yahoo.com.sg OR raj_k65@yahoo.sg.
Will be back soon with more snippets on kaviarasar.
Bye folks!

In the same line for 'rasamaana padalgal' I recollect one more song from kaviarasar written for Karnan:
'Valai konda karam ondru anal kondu vedikum..anal kondu vedikum
malar pondra idhazh indru pani kondu thudikum
thunai kolla avan indri thaniyaka nadikum
thuyiladha penmaiku yen indha mayakkam'
A great song though..

Hi, It is really interesting to read about kavignar Kannadhasan. One song I really like of kannadhasan is from panakkara kudumbam. The song is "Parakkum Pandhu Parakkum. Adhu Parandhoadi varum thoodhu" MGR and Sarojadevi are playing badminton (though the background music sounds like tennis) As usual when you play tennis if the ball comes towards the player's (lady) face, the eyes will struggle in fear (Poaraadum). Now Kannadhasan gives a kavidhai vadivam to that. He says that the ball came towards the face of the girl on its own thinking that it is the moon. "Idhu thaan andha nilavoe endru mugam paarrkkum vanna pandhu" He doesn't stop there. When the eye struggles in fear that the ball is going to strike the face, Kanadhasan says that the vandu in the mullai malar (face) was struggling in anxiety Knowing that the ball mistook the face to be a moon, as it is a mullai flower where the vandu (eye) is stationed. In this song there is no beginning or end to kannadhasan's poetic stream. I hope I explained it well. Canadian

I forgot the moview where MGR (called as Chandran) and Saroja Devi pair up. There is a misunderstaning in their affair and MGR takes up a role in a circus company. Saroja Devi comes to know about this and rushes to meet him during the day and since. the circus is only in the evening she is asked to come in the evening and in the evening he is playing the circus. Kaviarasar writes...
'Pagaliley chandiranai paarka ponnen
avan iraviley varuvadhaga oruthi sonnal
iraviley avanai kaana naanum sendren
avan ellorum parkumbadi uyarathil irundhan'

Hi Subramaniam and Raj, "Pagaliley" point was a great one. It shows how efficiently and effortlessly Kannadhasan covers various issues within a song. He is so rich with Tamil words, so that he is like a painter (artist) when he writes his lyrics. He so effortlessly touches his painting with many subtle and suitable colors within the guidelines of the situation. Raj, the "Unnai cholli kutramillai" has another interesting link to Tamil Literature - Kamba Ramayanam. Kannadhasan brought Tamil Literature to every Tamil household through his songs. Even people who could not read Tamil enjoyed the fruits of Tamil Literature though his songs. When Kaigayie chose Barathan over Raman to be the king, Laxman was furious, and to calm Laxhman down Ramar says as follows:
“Nadhiyin pizhai andru narum punal inmai/
padhiyin pizhai andru payandhu namai purandhaal/
madhiyin pizhai andru magan pizhai andru /
vidhiyin pizhai nee ennai idhatku vegundanai?”
Unnai cholli kutramillai ennai cholli kutramillai. it is nobody's mistake. It is not the rivers mistake, not the kings mistake, not the mistake of the intelligence. It is Vidhiyin mistake. Kaalam seidha koalam. Kavignar was so much in love with these lines of Kambar, he later included these lines literally in his "Nallavarkellaam saatchigal Rendu ondru mana saatchi"song. The lines go as follows: "Nadhi vellam kaaindhu vittaal nadhi seidha kutram illai vidhi seidah kutram andri vaeru yaaramma". Nadhiyin pizhai andru narum punal inmai. If there is no water in the river it is not the mistake of the river. What a great poet. When Kannadhasan died the Tamil Literature in our cinema died
