The National Award for best actor last year goes to Anil Kapoor!!! This, for his so called "intense performance" in Pukar.
Raveena Tandon bags it for her unreleased film, 'Daman'.
A Tehelka-like expose' on the the award committee is the need of the hour IMO.
I will await more details and post them soon.

Karthik,
Thanks. Tehelka indeed is doing a good job of reporting. Isn't it amazing that the so-called Bollywood goes to any extent in getting awards for popular stars?
They used to lobby with booze and cash earlier. Now they have gone to the extent of recalling rejected movies for consideration before the jury is out and voila, the leading artists in the above rejected movies (Pukar and Daman) bag the coveted best actor and actress awards!!!
Soon, the National media (read Times of India, Hindustan Times and Express) will splash front-page write-ups celebrating 'THEIR' stars' victory and in fine print, as a passing remark would say, 'as usual there was some controversy over the selection... ' and that's it. People (there are many suckers) would brush it off.
BTW, which film got the best WHOLESOME (food?) whatever award for popcorn (oops, popular) entertainment? Mohabbatein? Kaho NA pyAr hai?
This sucks! really!
eden: I am sorry, the awards are for the year 2000.

When Kushboo,Vyjanthimala,K.R. are the main Juries no wonder Tamil films bagged nine awards inall...
But Bharathi got awards for best tamil film only Other two insignificant awards for Bharathi are...Best dress designing and Art direction...Of course Pavatharani beat her brothers by bagging best female singer award national level...
Shanker Mahadevan's well deserved award for Enna solla Pogirai...
Vanathai pola beating Kahona Pyar Hai for Best Entertainment film is unbelieveable and to some extent Joke also...
Over all many wrong decisions still tamil films walked away with many awards...
Since Shivaji Shinde and Devayani had dubbed voice they were disqualified this year....
Who knows with no competetion around Anil in a semi commercial film and Raveena in a art film won the awards easily...TNS.

TNS,
The Jury List according to indya.com (link give by Karthik.S) is
The 17 members of the jury were: Vyjayanthimala (Chairperson), Chitra Desai, McMohan, Sonali Kutnis, Sushant Mishra, Parvati Indu, Kondarmanian, Shashi Anand, Hariharan, Shashi Ranjan, Pavan Kumar, Laxman, Tarun Vijay, Madhumita Raut, Dhritiman Chatterjee and Pradeep Kishen.
So where is Kushboo and K.R (whoever that is ) in the jury list. Don't tell lies ....

I have a Q, what is the basis for selecting a person as a winner, popularity, or the work done by him?.
Anil Kapoor, Raveen Tandon, Anu Malik are examples of popular artistes, not real good actors/composers.
I dont think the committee really analyses the quality of the work, if they would have done that IR would have had some better chance.

Guys I gave up on these national awards way back in 1997 when Minsara Kanavu fetched the award for best MD. I don't have anything against ARR. But I personally felt, eventhough the songs were good it was not worthy to get a national award.

I agree with Swami. Although Minsara Kanavu had great songs, I totally was shocked to see that it won all those awards at the national award. Although I was happy that Chithra and SPB won the awards too, it would have been a lot more satisfying if ARR had won it for a Bombay/Duet/Dilse etc, which were pathbreakers in the genre than for Minsara Kanavu. Likewise when Chithra and SPB have sang so many songs for which they deserved an award why this? It's sort of insulting. SPB for 'Thanga thaamarai magalae?! What about a 'Thathithom' or 'Kannalanae' which were truly great? I think the national award has gotten to be sort of a joke.
But I think that National awards were discussed to pieces in another thread long ago. So that's all I am going to say;-)

Hello!
The awards are not that disappointing! Bhava gets the best National Award for Best Female Playback Singer - Bharathi! Pity IR did not get the Best Music Director award - Anyway IR fans are to be happy! Bharathi has won 4 awards - Best Costumes and Best Art Direction! The other one I don't remember right now - just too enthusiastic!

Why should IR fans be happy for Bhavatharini getting award?. Actually they have to be really sorry for Indian Govt. not recognising IR.

Bharathi was a tremendous effort by IR. Sure...only very few don't agree with that.
So much natural feeling in the songs. No one would have matched IR there. I donno why the commitee has absolutely forgotten him. Leave songs, how about BGM..If Bhava has got it..it is welcome...if she hasn't that is ok. If IR hasn't got....total disappointment to the core. Few idiots decide and few other idiots nod...this is what a Jury of this sort means...National awards have lost its charm....It is all a big game..a total game...The govt should go ahead and abandon this play...give whatever awards to whomever you want..just remove "national" from the title.......

UVII,
IR Fans must be happy for Bhava getting the award not because she is His daughter but because she has won the award due to His tune! I would not have been so happy if she had got the award for "Thudikkindra Kaadhal" (Deva-Nerukku Ner) or "Alps Malai"(Sirpi-Thedinen Vandhadhu)!
I hope I've made it clear!

Any true music lover should feel more disgusted that Bavadharini GOT the award, rather than feel sorry that IR did NOT get an award. Anybody who feels otherwise, is not a music lover and merely a sycophant masquerading as a fan of music (and probably inviting everybody and their brother to his 'fanpage' for a chat with him and his 4 friends)

I am with Rajag on this, I am totally disgusted the way the jury has voted. A Big Insult to others singers who have got this award before.
It is hard to get a National Award agreed, Was this given based on her "vocal" merit!...simply
NOOOOOO.
The other voice singing the same song, that comes only in the movie(Ost's daugther) has more feel and emotion than bhavadharani.
I think the Jury got confused....
This is the biggest mockery to other "true" singers around. :(

Friends,
Please don't go against Bhavatharini just because she is IR's daughter! You must understand that Bhava was recognised as a good singer only after "Idhu Sangeetha Thirunaalo" from Kaadhalukku Mariyaadhai EVEN BY IR FANS!
IMHO, She has done the song very well - considering the rustic folk situation and the suitabilty of the voice. I don't think it is such an easy song to sing!
Please don't show personal favouritism in encouraging an artiste coming up! At last somehow IR family people get an award without any negative bias they are destined to suffer - please accept it! I am saying this from a neutral position not as an IR fan!

rajaG;
explain who is a true music lover. if you know little raaga or little bit of key board stuff, is that whom you call to be true music lover(s). True is not absolute. kodi veetu kuppusaami..maadi veetu maala and every others who hear music are true music lovers. you have no rights to comment on anybody. if you feel you're the only one, then keep living in that illusion. rather than others only your message invites people for a fight. Music is neither your nor mine or for that matter anybody's property. If you feel you know more (might be true) then best way to show up is certainly not through this kind of arrogance. even animals have right to listen and comment like a donkey...
