I feel IR is unmatchable in BGM, few of this examples are from the films "House Full", "Dalapathy", "Nayakan", and the list goes on........, while on the other hand ARR is the King, when it comes to theme music like "12ka4", "Ratchahan", "muthu", .....
any body agree with me?
Oh yes, I am great fan of both of them, so no fightings pls :))

Yeah, he is right in a way. What he says is IR is better than ARR in BGM, which I feel is true and ARR scores over IR when it comes to Theme music for films which again is true.

The reason for ARR shining better than IR in theme music could be attributed to his experience in composing for jingles where you have to come up with a theme and convey the feeling in a matter of 15-20 secs score which he has done brilliantly many times.

Theme BGM vs. situation BGM - Please tell me:
a) Which is difficult to compose
b) Which requires more time from an MD to understand
c) Which is more essential to the movie
Then I will give my opinion.

Once upon a time we too said that we don't care what western media says, we love our Tamil MD. But when a poll came in western media we did all the rigging, which even Ranbir Sena from Bihar couldn't match , to make our beloved Tamil MD to sustain lead.
Internally we care about what others say, be it Hindi or western. lets not pretend to be smart okay. Either we need to be smart or jump into the competition and fight it out. How long can people tolerate philosophical speeches....

Yes, of course, Mr.Raghu, Hindi listeners do have a horn in their heads, as they form a majority of the global listeners among the indian music lovers in the world. So, Hindi music lovers have to be kept in mind.
In a way, you can say that they do have horns in their heads. They may have less talents than south, but their final verdict makes a lot of difference. I support Dinesh Scaran in this matter.
IR was a king, now ..... haha now, I don't wanna say. IR and King, hahahahah.
Some filtered idiots think that Ilayaraja is good, but he has exhausted his talents, he is no more hot as in the 70's and the 80's. Currently, he can only compose good music for some lousy village songs and stories. IR is totally WORST these days. A R Rahman RULES!!!. ARR even for village themes can compose good melodies like 'Thenmerkku paruva kaatru' and 'Pooralae ponnu thayee', from "Karuthamma". IR sucks. Why can't he stop. A R Rahman has gone internamtional and his musical 'Bombay Dreams' is being appreciated all over the world. It has crossed collections, more than 10 million pounds. Has IR ever gone beyond Tamil Nadu. IR hardly has any hits in Hindi.
What ever people may say in this thread, A R Rahman RULES!!, IR sucks. Even Vidhyasagar and Mani Sharma's BGM's are better than IR these days. IR ruled in the 70's and the 80's. ARR ruled the 90's, rules the 2000's, and will continue to be a shining stone in many music lovers heart aroud the globe. Only, Rahman's Music breaks all language barriers.
People who have'nt listened to ARR's BGM's please click here and listen to them. ARR's BGM in Dil se.., Alaipayuthey, Mudhalvan, Thiruda Thiruda, Jeans, Roja, Bombay are all unmatchable gems.

There was something different about his music.. which we all know. I realized I was Rahman's fan in '95 or so when I noticed all my all-time favorites, Roja, Humse hai muqabla, Bombay, Chor chor
and stuff was composed by AR Rahman. And that was it, after that I bought every single Hindi album he came out with, and I noticed I was the only one buying Rahman's albums while all my other friends were listening to typical; anu malik and jatin lalit. In '97, I came to USA, I have been here ever since and I still am Rahman's die hard fan, after coming here I also got into Tamil music, I have every single hindi albuma and most of Rahman's Tamil albums . I don't understand a single tamil word but I still listen to it. I have seen Rahman go from Zero to Infinity..., He really got fame in the hindi industry with dilse and taal and with Bombay Dreams, he has just crossed limits. He does not sieze to amaze me everytime, but of course it's Rahman!. I believe each and every song composed by him is a master-piece in itself. All I have to say is, I think Rahman has achieved a feat no Indian composer has ever achieved or probably ever will. Now, if IR was anywhere near this..I would have definitely heard about him. I asked a lot of people here about IR and most of them have never heard of him, like myself. A couple people told me he is a well- known composer in the South. Rahman not only crossed the inter- state barrier but crossed the international barrier. IR is probably the best at what he does, but Rahman is the best all-rounder, b'cuz everytime he composes somethin... he Delivers!! as far as the BBC poll is concerned, it looks like a spam by some IR fan, with 50% votes, are u kiddin?, more than 50% of all voters listen to Tamil music?, if that's the case, then the poll is not even valid, cuz what happened to the rest of India? I'm still glad an Indian song tops the chart and Indian songs
dominate the chart, but validity of the polls is still debatable.

The people who say much abt ARR r who hasn't listened to "HOW TO NAME IT" or "NOTHING BUT WIND". First hear those things and then talk abt IR. IR is on the PEAK. Nobody(Even KR or YSR or ARR) can beat him. Haven't you heard punnagai mannan's theme music or mounaragam's? Go hear all those things and then compare with ur Ratchagan/Jeans etc. Go ahead. IR is always a King. ARR is not bad.Ofcourse if IR is an emperor, ARR is a king. That's all. But we should feel very happy to have two world famous musicians from Tamilnadu.

Hear to the song "Kuluvalile.." from Muthu(Just the beats during the lines 'ranganayagi.. ranganayagi..',and then listen to Michael Jackson's albums "Dangerous" or "BAD". You'll see a similarity

What is the difference between Theme music and BGM? You can come up with stupid explanations. Actually theme music is part of BGM. Theme music or BGM , Illayaraja is incomparable. The rest needs to go a long way in orchestration. Illayaraja is a master of all trades. ARR is jack of all trades. That is the difference.
