I hear lot of remixs of hindi and Nasrut's
songs in channel [V] and MTV. why not
some body remixs IR's songs and MSV's..
I beleive
i would realy make waves all over. Think of
Agni natcharam's songs remixed in hindi or english. I think this would really out. 'Mastana
Mastana' was a big hit in hindi than 'love birds',
'indira', 'duet' etc. This is was not just because
the song was peppy, but the flow in that song
though it was any great song.
So any new Bally sagoo to take this.

What do you mean by remixing? Will one song contain two songs ? Please give an example.

Ennappa idhu! "Remix" ennadhunu theriyada?
Vilaavaariya edhuththu sollaren paaru.
Neengal romba kaalamaga rasichcha paatai kOlai punnara viththaiyyai "Remix" endru kurupiduvaargal.
For example, "kaadalin deepam ondru" paatai edhuthu kolluvom. Indha paatai eppidi remix seivadhu?
1. First, indha paatilirundhu SPB padiya lines mattum uruvikkanam.
(Adhavadhu, remove all the instrumental music of Illaiyaraja from the song! Yarukku venam andha flute and violin interludes? Who cares if the violins chase the flute or the flute chases the violins? :-)
2. Instrumental interludes illaina pattu enna aagumnu neenga yOsikaradhu teriyudhu. Adhukku thaan namma Yamaha keyboard kaivasam irukkudhE! Turn it on and randomly choose a beat which comes with the machine. Don't worry if the beats don't match the song! Just ask one question:- indha beats la namma pasanga dance aaduvaangaLa? If answer is "yes" then go ahead!
3. Take the SPB lines and mix it with this beat. You have your "remixed" song!
4. Listen to the remixed song again for final editing. In this song SPB hums in "charukeshi" raagam in one of the lines! Ayyo! UNAcceptable!! Remove it immediately, and record over it with some Rap lines!
5. Follow the same process for some other evergreen songs.
6. To give a name for this CD, choose a name of some random English movie that you saw recently! And you have a HOT Remix CD!
Enjoy!

Dear Satish
Now i know what remixing is. Thanks.
Dear Kumar
What is the necessity for remixing Ilay, MSV songs? What kind of animosity do you have against these MDs? After having listened to gems from MSV and Ilay and the like, how could you settle for this remix stuff? If you think songs of these MDs need be made popular, why dont you think in terms of writing about the greatness of their songs and make people listen to them? Or any other way other than this remixing could be tried!!
But Kumar, i think this remixing stuff all began in the hindi belt i suppose! May be there are tamil audio cassettes out in the market with this silly remix stuff! But, still i think tamil audio market and in general the tamil audience, is not as bad as the northern counterparts when it comes to this remix stuff.
i think remixing is taking place in Bombay audio industry thanks to the existing standards in the music. Just think. When people dont buy cassettes considering the quality (u cant fool all the people all the time!!)these audio industry guys would have thought of some "innovation" That should be the remix stuff!!! The listeners get the feel of the popular songs!! The industry sells the cassettes!! So "Aracha Maavu" stuff! Who cares?
i pray there is none that defends this remix concept in the tamil film music!! Ours is unadulterated music, still, i believe!!!!

I think you misunderstood. Have heard
nasrut's remixed songs? done by bally sagoo
(with permission). Remix was a big reason for
nasrut's popularity in india. Though remix
didnt make a big difference in quality
of those songs but did it widened it
popularity. May be i didnt put it properly,
i wanted IRs songs to be remixed in hindi
or english, with same quality in orchestration
etc. Satish definition of remix wont work with
IR's songs because, orchestration is a the
vital force in his songs. May be anand milind
did the same thing, But their orchestration is
so bad and their singers too. Nor they give
credit to IR. Even asha B and RDB's
songs were remixed (with some degradation)
recently. Bally sagoo's recent remixed version
of old punjabi song ( rising in the east ) got
in to top ten of UK charts, So why not IR.

I hate remix 'music'.
But to have a mass audience, it makes sense to remix music. IR himself was a big fan of a great remixer - the French musician Paul Mauriat. (Read about IR's admiration of Paul Mauriat in IR's first book 'Sangeethak Kanavugal').
I have listened to Paul Mauriat. PM is not an original composer. He is not a remixer of the kind of Bally Sagoo. He takes the melody, preserves about 60-70 % of it and rearranges it in his own way. PM is a pretty popular musician. He is not original but he is not crappy as Bally Sagoo.
If you listen to PM's Classics in the Air albums (3 of them) you can appreciate PM's music. They make you want to listen to the original. PM's version of Beethoven's 5th symphony is all of 3.5 minutes long ! But listen to PM's version and you get the gist of what the original is about.
IR's music if remixed in this way can reach out to a larger audience without losing much of its original flavour.

P.Susheela recently made an album in which most of her old songs were remixed. It had the words "computerized music" in the cover of the cassette. She sang the songs again, but the orchestra was new. I don't know how many people really care for such albums.

This old song remixes started with "Ulavum thendral" album.
It was a great hit and soon it was followed by
"Ulavum thendral vol II, vol III, etc. I believe they were
also hits.
out of this topic, I heard a recent stage concert of Susheela.
Age is telling. She couldn't even sing songs like "chittukuruvi
mutham koduthu" properly.

I agree with P Ganesan on the quality of Remix.
Bally Sagoo spoils all songs and to make things worse, takes credit for the whole song.
Paul Mauriat kind of remix is quality stuff man. The essence really comes through. And I think remix in Hindi has become an exercise of adding non-sensical RAP stuff at regular intervals and cutting on the melody. Most of this is done by newcomers who don't have any idea about teh history and the background of the song or its original composer...
A young musician based in the UK (He is Bunty or Tony Singh, I'm not sure) in a recent interview to a British music mag has said that he is a great fan of Lata and Asha..., loves 'Punjabi music' sung by the sisters(!!!!) and added "I wish Lata was ALIVE to listen to my numbers". Its that pathetic.
I also recollect Apache Indian telling a journalist that Punjabi is the nationmal language of India and that his kind of music brings the essence of Indian culture!!!!!!
I feel if at all a new version of the oldies is to be done, the younger generation (Kartik Raja and Co.) should take it up as a restoration job and not a remix.
