Well its been nearly 2 weeks since Kannathil muthamital has been released. There has been some bashing and praise for the album (a normal thing when it comes to rahman album). Personaly i was disappointed only liking the title number and 'vellai pookal'. But now after repeated listening i love the songs..especially signore.
But i dont know how it is doing in India and overseas? I read somewhere it has had a phenomenon response. Can anyone enlighten us??? and please be serious i dont want some raja or YSR fan to write "a flop..a rahaman is gone! long live YSR!!!". Please give us some facts.

High Hopes
By Moviebiz
There is something magical about Mani Ratnam movies. His story telling ability,
casting, music and the techniques is what makes him a class director. So, it is
but natural that his new film Kannathil Muthamittal is creating a lot of
pre-release hysteria. The industry is hoping that the film would kick-start the
box office, after the Pongal debacle. The success of the film also determines
the future of Madhavan and its music director A.R.Rahman. The Mani-Rahman
combination has never failed so far in Tamil. But what is causing concern to
Tips, who is marketing the music, is that the audio sales of the film are very
average.
Meanwhile Mani and Rahman are trying to finish the re-recording of the film, so
that it would be ready for a February 1 or 8 release.

dont read much into a sify.com report.
those reports are just for laughing purposes only.
here is what "the hindu" chennai edition said in its "talk of the town" 2 days back.
"tips industries organised the launch of the cassette (km) at essen musicals, alwarpet.maddie, simran&little keerthana the starlet of the movie, put in an appearance, posed with fans &cassettes.perhaps it was the music of ar rahman, still going strong or the star magic, essen musicals apparently sold 700 cassetes of the movie that day".
thats means essen musicals itself sold 700 cassettes on the first day of audio release itself.now,if that isnt great, tell me what is?

Oh please...how can you believe sify.com. Have you read some of their stories??? There was one i read about Ajith and his new movie red. It said that if Red is a success then it will put Ajith next after Rajinikanth. God spare us!!!! What happened to Kamal did he disappear? Kamal has been in this industry before Ajith could even walk. Kamal has got talent what does Ajith have??? Except for Valli and Amarkalam he has not had a good hit for ages.
Anyway, my point is sify.com comments are unbelivable.
What about their comment that madhavan and rahman are hanging on to this movie. Please you would think that they have given flops after flops. Which is not true. Rahman is a legend he has built his music over the years and is now one of India's best composers and correct me if i am wrong but Madhavan has had only 1 flop and that was PP.
So dont believe sify, i trust hindu newspaper then sify anytime!

1. As a fan, you should worry more about the quality of songs than the sudio-cassette sales.
That's the head-ache of the audio rights owner's.
2. If things go like this, there will be a separete thtread for each film and why not each song.

Yeah I agree...and when the situation hits the lowest point, u'll see threads like:
1) why should'nt ARR be called ''THE'' indian film music composer of the century [DUH!]
2) If Maniratnam works with AR Rahman again , will he be at gain or loss ??? [bugger, why did MR have to 'found' that new MD whose guts we hate]
3) ARR & **** DUETS [who cares what **** is?]
4) Old AR Rahman Songs [gone are the good old days]
5) ARR Songs which are tough to reproduce on stage [cos we're too dumb]
6) ARR's new books [now that he is jobless]- must be very good [since we are deranged]
7) ARR Junior 1's NEW PROJECT's [goody!]
8) Blah, Blah (Yes, ARR Junior 2!) The Only International level Indian 'Single" so far! But Gone ... [are our brains]
9) vaNakkam thamizhagam new year special guest...is ARR JUNIOR 3:-) [wow, let's see...can she read? can she write? Yippee, how exciting!]
And when it reaches this stage, we know for sure that we've reached the point of no return.

For those who think KM songs are not good or not doing well (like sify.com) read what the Indian Times said:
Will the melody revive?
The A R Rahman-Maniratnam combination has worked wonders musically. Their forthcoming project KANNATHIL MUTHAMITTAL featuring Madhavan, Simran and Nandita Das is ready and is to be released next month. The music album was released recently and is doing well. What is interesting here, is that Rahman has tried something different. Most of the songs are melodies and mood songs. The music will surely find more appreciation once the film itself is released. The number Vellai pookkal.... sung by Rahman, is excellent. Watch out for the way Rahman has used music director M S Viswanathan differently, for a mood song. This album has been released by Tips.
If you look at raag.com it has given a perfect five stars for each song.
How is that!!

hari,
the perfect five stars for the songs on raaga.com is like sify.com
the more people connect to raaga.com to listen to an album, the more that album gets stars ...

why not,
amazingly dumb posting!
when you man is producing 3-4 albums per year (of which 3 are junks and recycles of recycles), does not find time to do his bgm's (and the bgm's he deigns to do are best left to likes of sabesh murali, who anyway do better job in this dept.)-your posting reeks of implied musical superiority, which ,i regret to say is not there.

you know what guys.. u r right..unlike The King's movies for which, on the day of the release, the whole of Tamil Nadu lines up in mile-long queues to buy his blockbusters of the millennium and not to mention, they buy also international hit singles by his(or shud it be His) gardener...
But coming to rahman, we do have serious doubt when we hear his albums usually outsell the rest.. probably rahman buys them off himself.. u never know..and will any sane person who has got a PIV and cakewalk buy rahman's arranged music? why buy if u can make 'em urself...

But "another raja movie for oscars..." That was justified right, cos unlike Lagaan, it wasn't even a hit.

Whynot,
Lagaan theme copied from raakayi koyililae theme music... and Radha kaise na Jale is copied from that song in aatha naan paasayiten..gee, forgot the song name.. but beautiful romantic duet by Maestro and SJ.. especially listen how he starts the charanam and traverses higher in mid-way and drops softly to blend seamlessly into the pallavi...
so its more than fair to ask to consider these two originals.. than the recycled standard rahman fare...
